Plot
Kirra Cooper goes to South Africa to live with her grandfather for the summer at his run down amusement park. When an orca winds up stuck in a lagoon just outside the park, Kirra attempts to find his pod so Willy can be freed.
I think we have someone trying to compete with DisneyNature's Oceans
I guess the good news is its not another Beetoven but... .idk I give up.....Logic in the movie industry for me has just went completley finally offically out the window

Speaking of the original Free Willy... My best friend hates the movie for one reason.
In the first movie, the kid's name is Jesse. My best friend's name is Jesse. So during the summer the movie came out all of his friends kept teasing him about it, saying "So Jesse, did you free Willy yet?".
I can understand his frustration. A lot of cartoon characters are named Pedro or Pete, so kids used to tease ME about it in school.
But I am going way off topic here...
I wonder if this new movie will be using animatronic whales once more.
Ok, that ticks me off! Spider-Man does not get a part 4 and yet Willie the Whale does?!?!?!?!?! No justice in Hollywood, no justice!

Yeah, they are using the animatronic whales. They are using some footage of live whales, mostly stock/documentary stuff. I did spot some CGI whales too.
Well I just looked on amazon its getting released on March 23rd to dvd and Blu ray....although I think the honorable thing to do (besides scrapping the movie) is to postpone the release due to the recent Sea-World event-tragedy....bad timing for this movie to be released.....and I can see people now saying they WB is exploiting it
and the previous 3 movies are getting re-released on DVD this tuesday....not really a good timing either....if you saw Larry King Live it was Bob Barker and Ingrid head of Peta vs Jack Hanna on their thoughts of this terrible tragic event....
As awful as the SeaWorld incident was, I hardly think WB is going to postpone this, since that would only cost them money which they're obviously not willing to spend. Sad as it may be, this is actually free publicity, in some form.
I hate SeaWorld, and all those kinds of animal-exploit parks. Including the circus. Just awful... And this event is just another example of why these things just don't work.

I'm starting to agree.

Sea World also saves hundreds of lives of animals through rehab and release.
Though I do feel they have room for improvement in several areas, Sea World is a far cry from a circus.
In circuses, they chain elephants, keep them from doing their normal social functions that keep their mind and body healthy, they also transport them constantly. Though elephants are migratory animals, they are also creatures of habit. They will walk the same migratory route, generation after generation...when they are good and ready. They are put into train cars and trucks and carted place to place instead. They are beaten and blooded. On investigating one circus, I saw their elephant had gray paint on its legs...covering the wounds it was inflicted. If they don't preform, they get beaten. Video after video has shown this. They are forced to perform till they snap.
Sea World, they are kept in their family unit, allowed to breed. I have been at many Sea World shows. 4 of them were canceled right before or mid-show. Because one of the whales would decide....they don't want to perform. They just wanna play in the big pool in the front. I have also snuck into the stadium during non-show times. I have viewed how these trainers interact with the whales when they are being uncooperative and when no audience is around to watch them. When they don't want to perform. They will at least try to convince the whale to leave the performance pool. They do this with treats and toys, positive reinforcement. When that doesn't work, they give up, announce the show is canceled. And the time I snuck in between shows, the trainers were with 4 whales on the stage, dancing and singing to the whales...putting on their own performance, trying to get the baby whales to follow their lead. They don't use bull hooks or electric prods or harsh words.
Don't get me wrong, Sea World IS about the money. But they do some good too. And the trainers are not the bad guys. I have become friends with many marine mammal trainers at Sea World and other parks, I have found many of them share a common thought.....Marine mammals belong in the wild. So why do they work with them? Because they love them. Because they feel they help those animals more by being with them than standing on some picket line demanding their release. They rather be there with them, then have some trainer like the circus elephant trainers come in and hurt these animals.
Also, it has been ruled it was her braid that caused the attack. Let's remember...Tilly is a big whale, with huge teeth. Orcas do not kill by drowning their victims. They kill them with massive bites from their jaws. Also by beating it with their tail flukes and head butting it.
Tilly grabbed Dawn's braid and pulled her under......just like he does with their rope/ball toys. Tilly has a history of not listening to his trainers when he wants to do things his way. 3 times out of the 4 when the show ended early for me, it was because of Tilly. Tilly also doesn't like to give his toys back after he's been given them. I do agree with the investigation....Tilly was not attacking. Either the braid fell in his mouth or he saw it and grabbed it. The ropes they use are braided yellow nylon ropes. Dawn was blonde. I wouldn't doubt at some point he realized he had done something wrong, and like a dog who gets off leash and is afraid to come back because the owner is yelling at them and chasing them, Tilly was probably also scared.
IMO, if Tilly meant to attack Dawn, he would have bitten her body up.
In the wild Orcas actually ofter kill seals and sea lions by drowning them. I personally agree that things like SeaWorld should not be open to the public, as a rehab centre it's fine but I tend to agree that it's a glorified circus. If they can't be released into the wild, put them into an aquarium but by doing tricks and shows they are teaching the public the wrong thing about these animals. We should not be doing tricks with the largest predator in the world, these things can prey on Great White's remember.
Orcas are my favorite animal, I spend a lot of time reading about them and watching documentaries. The only prey they drown are sharks and whales. And neither is drowned by the manner in which Tilly did. They know how to turn sharks over to put them into an unconscious state and they drown. They drown large whales, usually young ones, by simply preventing them from surfacing by blocking them with their own bodies till the baby drowns. Dolphins are killed by exhausting them to the point they can't swim away or fight. Seals and sea lions are killed by repeated beatings, at the surface. The seals and sea lions are allowed to "escape", only to be thrown in the air with head butts and fluke flips.
I have a few friends who work at Sea World, including in the marine mammal education and training. According to them, he was in play mode. He dragged her around like the rope toys, but didn't bite her.
I'm not defending Sea World for having a whale like Tilly in a show. IMO, he should be retired. IMO he never should have been in a show. But in this case, I don't believe Tilly was actually trying to kill her. I don't buy the thought that he was out for revenge against his oppressors. Dawn was his best friend. Dawn was the closest human friend for him. He trusted her the most. I think this is a case of Tilly wanting to play and when the trainers scrambled to help Dawn, he didn't want to let her go. Generally with orcas, when they want to send a message about a kill, they flip the animal around and make a spectacle of it, such as they do with dolphins they don't eat. He didn't bite her body nor flip her around, he stayed under water to avoid the trainers and nets. If a orca wanted to kill a human being, it couldn't be an open casket, its that simple.
Also, the "tricks" they do are natural behaviors. Unlike circus elephants, these whales are not asked to do anything they couldn't or wouldn't in the wild. And to just throw them in an aquarium for people to look at is actually more damaging to them. These are smart animals. They NEED to be taught "tricks" to stimulate their minds, or else they get completely bored, and a bored wild animal is far more dangerous than a trained one.
I'm not an expert but
"California Sea Lions were the most numerous prey items, and all age classes of Sea Lions were taken. Predation events on this species were very visible due to the relatively long process of incapacitating the Sea Lion by tossing, body and tail slams, and then in most cases, ending the attack by drowning the prey. In some cases, the Sea Lion was battered, drowned and killed, then towed along with the Killer Whales for several hours.
Harbor Seals have been identified as prey items from fur fragments or brief glimpses of the seal's presence before it was killed. They are possibly under-reported because of the cryptic and quick killing process used on these seals.
All age classes of Northern Elephant Seals were taken. Adult male Elephant Seals appeared to be prevented from taking deep dives by the Killer Whales and drowning was the suspected cause of death, often lasting up to an hour. Weaners were often taken quickly at the surface and a round of pummeling with flukes led to eventual drowning."
Not sure if it was intentional or not. Anyway all I can say is that I'm not happy seeing these animals doing things like they do at SeaWorld and if they can't be returned to the wild or be placed in an aquarium I'd rather they be humanely put down.

Better yet, how about - when nobody cares anymore?
I'm starting to think this is worse than what they're (whoever) doing with Bring It On. Willy's been set free and to quote (Not Another Teen Movie?) "it's already been broughten!"
WB, ABC-Family, Disney direct-to-video, and everyone who just keeps remaking and sequeling every dead thing under the sun... let us in peace and stop raping the graves of things we don't need nor really WANT to see "resurrected" and put on life support.

That's PETA ideals there. Sorry. But euthanizing healthy animals is the most unethical thing I have ever heard of. Sea World's whales and other marine mammals, are healthy and are under the care of both Sea World vets, as well as been seen by independent state vets. Sea World hasn't had a citation against their animal care for years. At least 10 years. The animals are watched 24/7 both by cameras and staff members who have the graveyard shift there. Like I said, Sea World isn't perfect, but its far from hell for captive animals either.
I'd suggest you look into circuses or the Miami Sea Aquarium if you want to see what true hell for animals is.
