If there were any sort of special features on this set apart from the retrospective, I would have bought it. Since there isn't, I'll just wait several years until they get around to doing it right.

This was obviously a quick cash-in meant to be released before the holidays. If they release the current season (the 21st) this summer after it airs on BD and DVD, and go back to doing seasons 13 - 19 (as speculated), maybe they'll re-release S20 and S21 with proper bonus features?
I doubt it, but either way I'm not buying this season right away.

Vey disappointed with this release, even though I know it's an obvious cash-in on the 20th anniversary but still... there's not even a little introductory letter from Matt Groening in the package or an intro on the disc... just a preview for a documentary we've already seen =(
Love the package though O_o

But the thing that makes Woody special, is he'll never give up on you... ever. He'll be there for you, no matter what.

@rexcrk, The way you word your post makes it sound like you bought it. If you did, what exactly do the menus look like. I know they have Matt (Groening) drawing the characters using that pen they use on the animatics. What characters are drawn? What about the layout of the menus? Are they similar to menus from seasons 5-12? Do the episodes still have individual menus?
Yep I did buy it, but I didn't actually get a chance to watch any of it yet (other than to see if there was an intro by Matt Groening).
To be honest I got home from work, and I was set to watch some, but I was too tempted by a Phineas and Ferb marathon on Disney Channel, I hardly see Phineas and Ferb when it's on and it always seems to be an episode I have on DVD or that I've seen a lot lol.
Anyway, I'll answer your questions after I actually check it out lol
(Unless of course someone else gets to it before me lol)

Ok so the menu for the Blu-ray release is nothing special.
It's just a black background with the Simpson family being illustrated on it while the version of the theme that played in the Treehouse of Horror episode where Homer went into the "third dimension" and then into the real world during the credits plays. The illustrations are like in the visual commentaries.
The pop-up menu is at the bottom. You can choose "Play all", "episodes", "set up", and "bonus feature". When you click episodes another box pops up and you can choose the episode by going left or right.
The menu is fine for me, I'm just still so disappointed with the lack of extras. This is the 20th season! They should've gone all-out for this release =/
And I voted choice 4 lol. I love the episodes (so far I've only watched the first two, but they were hilarious) but the lacking bonus features sucks.

"The Simpsons" should have been cancelled at least 10 years ago. I don't get all the hub-bub about a cartoon with some of the worst animation ever. It was cute when it was first on, and first 10 years were absolutely the best. But it is just my opinion that the show has gone downhill from there and Fox only keeps it on because they have nothing better to put on that will draw a crowd for "Family Guy" and "American Dad".
I just don't understand what everyone thinks is so good about the Simpsons or The Cleveland Show, or the pre-mentioned Family Guy or American Dad. I personally think the animation is mediocre at best and I guess that I can believe that a 8-year-old Bart can stlll be eight after 20 years.
I own the first 10 seasons and that is it, as far as I am concerned that is when the Simpson's were laid to rest.
And vulgarity does not make up for quality. When are they going to get through their little 'pinheads'??

Do you say that about like every animated TV show? I'm just curious. Because while "The Simpsons" is hardly the most exquisitely animated show of all time, it's still heads and shoulders above the static animation of, say, anything Hanna-Barbera did. And considering it's a weekly show, the animation is pretty good.DVDJunkie wrote:I personally think the animation is mediocre at best
Well, that's an improvement from the last time when you made the same complaint excepting that you didn't understand how Bart could still be a child after 20 seasons.DVDJunkie wrote:I guess that I can believe that a 8-year-old Bart can stlll be eight after 20 years.
Also, he's ten.

Bart is still a 'foul-mouthed' punk kid, and if he is ten, then he should have his mouth washed out with soup once a day.
I agree that I complain a lot about the animation, but it is still mediocre at best, and I know that they have months of preparation for the show because most of it is done in Japan and then has to go through the "looping" process (dubbing in the voices) before it screens each week.
While "The Simpsons" is probably the most ambitious show on television today, it has truly worn-out its welcome in my eyes. Sunday nights I totally avoid Fox because there is nothing on there that could make me switch from ABC's big hit show "Desperate Housewives", and my DVR doesn't have enough room for those animated shows on Fox.
The other thing that irks me, is that most of the re-runs on other channels of "The Simpsons" are being shown in the early 'before prime time' hours and little kids can see these vulgar shows. Just another reason why I think that The Simpsons should go very quietly into the night and never return.

But it's still a TV show. It shouldn't be raising your kids. If your kids watch "The Simpsons" and start cussing or whatever, it's the obligation of the parents to either make sure they don't mimic the behavior of the characters or that they just don't watch the show. If a parent doesn't want their kid to watch the show, they need to make sure they aren't watching the show, not just complain that kids are exposed to these things.

The voice tracks for The Simpsons are RECORDED before any animation (outside of storyboards) is done on the episodes.dvdjunkie wrote:I agree that I complain a lot about the animation, but it is still mediocre at best, and I know that they have months of preparation for the show because most of it is done in Japan and then has to go through the "looping" process (dubbing in the voices) before it screens each week.
