Favorite Disney Animated Classic from the 60s?

Post by tlc38tlc38 »

Based on the success of the "Disney 2000 Decade Poll", I thought it would be a cool idea to do these polls for the different Disney decades. Vote for which film you liked the most from each decade and feel free to rank the others in order from most liked to most disliked.

Here's my ranking:

1. 101 Dalmatians
2. The Jungle Book
3. The Sword in the Stone

101 Dalmations (I love the animation of Cruella)

Jungle Book (It's a light hearted breezy type of film)

Sword In The Stone (Not the greatest but worth watching)

1. The Sword in the Stone
2. The Jungle Book
3. 101 Dalmatians

This is tough...

Anyway, even though I love to poke fun at The Sword in the Stone for all of it's recycled animation, the obvious changes in Wart's voice, and the constant reuse of the exact same recording of "Whoa, Wha!? Whoa!" I really do feel that it is the most interesting story of the decade, and story is king, after all! Sure it's a bit episodic, but I really, really like the core message to it. It's better than the other two, anyway.

Don't get me wrong, I love all three of these movies, but.... I don't know. I like them about equally. I love Cruella De Vil, she is a very good villainous, but I feel that she was underused in the movie. And the fact that not too many of the puppies seem to be individuals has always bothered me. I mean, really, I think only like 6 of them even have names! But, what really set The Jungle Book over the edge for me? "My Own Home." Beautiful, beautiful song. Miles better than any music in 101 Dalmatians.

I like 101 Dalmatians because it has an awesome villain (Cruella De Vil) and a unique look. I still like all of them.

1. The Sword in the Stone ~ This was a childhood favorite of mine, and even as an adult its endlessly entertaining. Merlin and Archimedes are some of my favorite Disney characters, and Mim offers a show-stopping wizard's duel. The movie has a charm and hilarity to it that I don't get from many films. Which is why it'll always be a favorite for me.
2. 101 Dalmatians ~ Another one in my top ten, Cruella is this movie. Despite how that sounds, I find the rest of the cast likable as well and I've always enjoyed the animation of Pongo and Perdita. The ending scene with Cruella's car is no doubt a cinematic classic.
3. The Jungle Book ~ I've never been too crazy about this film. I find Bagheera and Kaa to be the only entertaining characters here, and the music is a highlight. The rest is kind of blah. Shere Kahn also seems like he could have been a pretty good villain, if there had been some small exposition on why he hated humans so much (of course, the audience can deduce why, but it would be more real if it had been stated once).

Mary Poppins would probably be between Dalmatians and TJB for me; that film has just always seemed bloated to me (didn't like the whole scene in the sidewalk, except as "Supercalifragilistic" is being performed; the song by the men at the bank near the end; the laughing scene wasn't funny or necessary; the scene with Bert and the chimney-keeps; and the scene where Mary sings the children to sleep also comes across as loose weight). Of course, I like moments like this, when they're entertaining. Still, the movie has a lot of highlights. I always loved the housekeepers, and the scenes of Mary unpacking and "Spoonful of Suger" are great ones.

for me this was only a hard decision between Dalmatians and TSitS. I ultimately chose Dalmatians because it is a better produced film IMO. I've never been a huge JB fan, so that's why i didn't really consider it.

That makes my line up

1 - 101 Dalmatians
2 - The Sword in the Stone
3 - The Jungle Book

It's a tough choice, because it only involves the animated classics. Had Mary Poppins been in the list, that one would have definitly taken the first spot. I LOVE that film.

I'm still torn between The Jungle Book and One Hundred and One Dalmatians (as it is properly spelled).

It depends on my mood of the day how I rank them. Fact is, SitS ranks last. I like the characters of Merlin (though the character design is lazy) and Archimedes and Mad Madam Mim, and the duel between Merlin and Mim. The rest is forgettable.

But I'll have to go with Dalmatians anyway, because of its humor, although Jungle Book is a VERY close second! I mean, it has those great characters, it has George Sanders as Shere Khan and those unbelieveable songs and this bond between Baloo and Mowgli...

Er... now I don't know what to choose again.
