Your Favourite Christmas Movies
Your Favourite Christmas Movies
Hey guys!
I was just thinking here... since the Holiday season is about to begin (in fact, LOTS of stores are already selling christmas stuffs), and Christmas movies are one of my favorite parts of the holidays...
WHAT CHRISTMAS MOVIES ARE ESSENCIAL TO YOUR HOLIDAY SEASON?
For me, they have to be...
- The Polar Express: it's soundtrack and magic are beyond this world! All that "Seeing is Believing" and stuff... the fact that, if you believe, the Magic of Christmas will never die... wow, just wow. Love every second of it.
- The Santa Clause Trilogy
- It's a Wonderful Life
- A Christmas Story
and I can't wait to add Disney's A Christmas Carol to that list! =)
So, tell me... what's YOUR favourite Christmas movies?!?!?

A Muppet Christmas Carol - This has been a tradition for as long as I can remember. We've watched it every single year. If we don't watch it, all hell breaks loose. Haha
A Christmas Story - The first time I saw this was in 2006, and we've been watching it ever since. It's a great film!
The Polar Express - A great film with great music and characters!
And then tons of Christmas specials here and there. Haha

Its a Wonderful Life - Capra at his best, what more to say.
A Miracle on 34th Street (1947) - This movie brings back all those great feels I had as a kid believing there was a Santa.
The Bishop's Wife - Just like the movie Harvey made you believe there was a giant invisible rabbit without any special effects, this movie made you believe Cary Grant was an angle with some great music and practical effects.
The Muppet Christmas Carol - My favorite adaption of Charles Dicken's novel, with only Mickey's TV adaption in a close second.
The Santa Clause - Back when Disney and Tim Allen were funny, this movie was made and the sequels make me appreciate the original more.
The Shop Around the Corner - Another little-known Jimmy Stewart classic, this one is a love story.
Home Alone - One of the biggest John Hughes hits is really enjoyable even to this day.
Remember the Night - A little know christmas classic written by the infamous Preston Sturges, with the first teaming of Barbara Stanwyck and Fred MacMurray
Jingle All the Way - Last minute christmas shopping at its finest, just wish Phil Hartman was still around and Arnold would give up being a terrible politician and go back to being a decent actor.
Honorable mentions: Christmas in Connecticut, Holiday Affair and Bachelor Mother.
Movies that take place during christmas but I'm not sure are christmas movies: The Nightmare Before Christmas, Gremlins, and Die Hard.
Movies I try to like but don't: Elf (not funny), The Polar Express (great music, THATS IT), and A Christmas Story (filmed locally, it's taboo for me not to like it, but besides a couple of classic scenes I find it dull).

It's sort of become a Christmas tradition of mine to watch Love Actually.
In addition to that:
A Charlie Brown Christmas
How the Grinch Stole Christmas (Live action and animated)
All the stop-motion Christmas movies (You know what I'm talking about)
Home Alone 1 and 2
The Nightmare Before Christmas (I think it's more Xmas than Halloween)
Jingle All the Way
The Santa Clause
Look Who's Talking Now (3rd one with the dogs
)
and I kinda like to consider Batman Returns a Christmas movie.
That's all I can think of right now.

There were only two Burton Batman movies, and none of them were set at Halloween.PeterPanfan wrote:I forget, was it the first of the Burton Batmans to be set at Halloween?SpringHeelJack wrote: As do I, along with "Gremlins" and "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang".

Argh, I hate to think about Christmas until after Halloween is over!
Well, here are a bunch of mine:
A Christmas Story (I'm a Ralphie movie fanatic; there are 5 other Ralphie movies, 4 made for TV).
It's a Wonderful Life (my pick for best movie ever made)
Miracle on 34th Street (the original)
A Christmas Carol/Scrooge (most versions, Mickey and the Muppets' too; I adore this story)
One Magic Christmas (kind of depressing, but a great movie anyway, and Elisabeth Harnois grew up to be one of my favorite dreamgirls)
How the Grinch Stole Christmas (yes, the live action one, but the cartoon too, of course)
Santa Claus: The Movie (I LOVE it!)
Elf (Zooey Deschanel is an angel in this movie, and it's hilarious!)
The Bishop's Wife (Cary Grant is always awesome in black and white)
Home Alone 1 and 2 (modern classics)
A Mexican film called "Santa Claus" (which is really bizarre; I watch it dubbed, of course)
Jingle All the Way (my friends and I watch this every year at our Festivus party)
Gremlins (yeah, I consider this more a Christmas movie than Halloween)
Scrooged (so good I'm mentioning it apart from the other Christmas Carol films)
The Nativity Story (really a fantastic film)
The Small One (a must watch short along with Mickey's Christmas Carol)
The Peanuts, Garfield, Rudolph and Frosty specials, the Grinch, Muppet Family Christmas, The Christmas Toy, Santa Claus is Coming to Town, and the Raggedy Ann and Andy (Chuck Jones) special are tops in my TV specials deparment. Oh, and Dolly Parton's Smoky Mountain Christmas (TV movie).
I also love Mickey's Once and Twice upon a Christmas, The Nutcracker Prince, Babes in Toyland (Disney), Eloise at Christmastime, the Colbert Christmas, the Santa Clause films, Ernest Saves Christmas, Fred Claus, and others I'm sure I'm forgetting, but those previously mentioned ones are the most essential, if I'm not forgetting any of those too. I also like to see Star Wars stuff, especially Ewoks (the TV movies and cartoons) for some reason, and other not-exactly-Christmas-stuff, like "Coming to America".

I got a bunch, but I tend to watch these every year:
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation
Scrooged
Mr. Bean's Christmas Special
Polar Express
I haven't seen the Shrek Christmas special yet (Shrek the Halls), but I picked up a used copy of the DVD at Blockbuster earlier this year so that will be on my viewing list as well.
