Toy Story Collection Toys
I am starting this thread about The Toy Story Collection line of toys from Thinkway. I want to know what others think about them so far.
I purchased the Buzz Lightyear figure yesterday and I think it's pretty cool (compared to my silver intergalatic Buzz Lightyear from 14 years ago). I like the interactivity of it (Like how it resonds to your voice). I wonder who does the voice for the doll (it does not sound like Tim Allen).
One of my complaints was that it was a real pain to get out of the box without damaging it (I am keeping the box BTW) but now it sits on one of my shelves.
I really want to get the Woody figure eventually if I am lucky enough to find it.

Well, I'm 34 and am as psyched about collecting the most accurate replicas of the Toy Story characters as ever. I have the first Woody and Buzz that came out, and I haven't seen any that look as authentic, though one can always nit-pick (for example, Buzz's arm doesn't have a part that opens, and when his wings pop up they are a bit short and the helmet doesn't go all the way in but is a halfway thing). I have the Bullseye from the Disney Store from back when Toy Story 2 first came out, and it is the most authentic one of those I've seen too, with the material looking a lot like in the film. I also have a very accurate looking Lenny from McDonald's (they made two over the years, one seeming to be very accurate) and some excellent Army Men from there too. Finally, I have a talking (if I remember correctly it talks) Jessie from back when Toy Story 2 came out that actually has yarn hair. It's the only one I've seen of her like that.
Lately, I have my eye on the Slinky Dog at the Disney Store (he's been there for a while) and I need the old Potato Head and Mrs. Potato head (Toy Story versions) off Ebay or something, and Tour Guide Barbie too. From the new stuff though, I want those authentic Aliens (LGMs, as they're called on Star Command), but that 3 pack is so pricey for squeak toys! I also want a Rex really bad, but I still haven't seen a perfect one. I mean, if I remember correctly, shouldn't his mouth open and close? And the one at Toys R Us doesn't look like his head is big enough either, but there's one at the Disney Store that looks a lot more size accurate. However, I wonder, does anyone know if the OLD Rex figure (which I believe did have an opening/closing mouth and which talked) was size accurate? I wonder which would be the best to get for accuracy. I also want the new R/C that is out now. There are several versions/sizes out now, but one is spot on.
Did I forget anything? I know there is the Etch a Sketch too, and the Bucket of Green Army Men. I want those as well, of course. I wonder how accurate the Bucket is, as it is a short looking bucket. And there's the spider baby toy that might be too small, but I'm not sure. I wish they'd make a good, authentic Hamm.

I'm 21... and I'm very excited about this line hehe.JustOneBite87 wrote:When I was a kid, I wished dearly for a line like this....but now that I am 22 the enthusiasm is sort of gone
So anyway, I've got all the currently-released "Certificate of Authenticity" Toy Story Collection toys and they're all for the most part really awesome.
Buzz is great! In short, this is pretty much the Buzz I've wanted for the past 14 years since Toy Story first came out. The box of course is really cool and a lot like the one in the movie (one of my original "gripes" about the original Buzz lol) and all of the features are great! The bigger wingspan, better detail (like the purple tips on his fingers), moveable fingers, the lights on the wings, opening communicator... these are all things I wanted on the original Buzz. As far as the voice goes, it sounds like Tim Allen to me, and the box even says "Over 65 sayings in original voice". A definite improvement over the original Buzz... even though that one will always have the emotional value that the new one could never have
Now on the opposite side of the spectrum are the Aliens. They look great! The sculpts on all three are very good. The only problem is that they don't squeak! I can't think of any good reason (if there IS a good reason out there I'd love to hear it) that they didn't make these squeaky, especially considering they're supposed to be "film replicas". Still nice sculpts and I'm glad to own 'em, but essentially you're paying ~$30 for 3 hunks of plastic, I'd say only get 'em if you're a really big fan of the aliens or if you have the extra money to spend on 'em.
Rex is great! Don't really have any problems with him other than the fact that his jaw doesn't move. The box says he has original voice and he does sound like Wallace Shawn, big plus! The sound clips are great and the head and arm movements are cool. (Odd fact: Rex is the only one so far that I've bought who's had a bi-lingual box and CoA lol). Recommended!
RC is fantastic. It's the RC I've always wanted since Toy Story came out (I never had an original RC Car, did they even make one? The only ones I had were non-RC RC Cars lol). Haven't really tried out the talk-back features or anything, but he moves around just fine! Definitely recommended (and he's the most expensive of the bunch at around ~$80 IIRC).
Woody is pretty much perfect. The head sculpt, the fabrics, the stitching... all very well done. He even comes with a stand in case you wanna pose him not leaning up against anything. The box he comes in is really cool, like the old "Woody's Roundup" boxes in Toy Story 2. Unfortunately his voice ISN'T Tom Hanks but the one they got sounds pretty good anyway. I have the orginal Woody doll from the 90's but this one is definitely better (though, as with Buzz, the emotional value of the original is higher
I can't wait until the Bucket 'O Soldiers comes out because the current one isn't the accurate-to-the-movie Bucket. I read in the other thread that they've got Jessie planned, and even though I've already bought the $35 one, I'll definitely be getting the CoA version.
I've got my fingers crossed for Bullseye, the Prospector (ideally with Kelsey Grammer's voice!), and Zurg!
But the thing that makes Woody special, is he'll never give up on you... ever. He'll be there for you, no matter what.

Wow, I didn't know they'd made so many improvements on the Buzz doll. Where do you get these Certificate of Authenticity versions? Are they Disney Store exclusives or at Toys R Us too? Where does it say on them that they are COA versions? I hadn't noticed that on any, but one thing I think I did notice was that the big Rex at Toys R Us looked smaller than the one at the Disney Store. Are you familiar with the old "electronic talking Rex"? (Not to be confused with the room guard) I am wondering if that one, which I THINK had a moveable mouth, is more accurate than the current releases. It's a little confusing right now, because there are just so many versions of all the characters in various stores right now, but I didn't realize they had Certificate of Authenticity replicas. That sucks about the Aliens though! At that price, they should be perfect!rexcrk wrote: So anyway, I've got all the currently-released "Certificate of Authenticity" Toy Story Collection toys and they're all for the most part really awesome.

Yeah all of the ones with a Certificate of Authenticity I bought at Toys R Us with the exception of Rex, whom I only saw at the Disney Store. The aliens were ~$30, Buzz and Woody were ~$50, RC was ~$80, and Rex was ~$60. Well, actually, I bought my Buzz at Target, just because the ones there had better boxes, but they had him at TRU for the same price. They all say on the back of the box that they include a CoA.
It's kind of confusing 'cause they've released several versions of the same characters (for less money, but they aren't as cool). I made the mistake of buying the $35 Buzz (only because they didn't have and I didn't know about the $50 one) lol.
I DO have the old Rex (I think we're talking about the same one, he has a button on his back and when you press it he says phrases from the movie) and I'd say this new one is a lot more movie-accurate, he's a lot bigger that's for sure! I saw the new "cheaper" Rex at Toys R Us (when I got that not-as-good Buzz) and it was like $30 for a hunk of poseable plastic lol. Fortunately I passed on it because the old one is a lot better haha. I'll have to post pics comparing the old and new, I may do that later today because I'm not going to work till later.

That would be great if you could post comparison pics for any of this stuff. Thanks! I didn't think they had come out with superior Buzz or Woody dolls to the originals, but now I'm intrigued (and sad that I need to rebuy, ha). Sounds like the Disney Store Rex is the best ever, but does the old one (yes, we're talking about the same one) have a moveable jaw? It's so annoying that they think we don't notice/care about things like that when they come out with supposedly movie accurate replicas of stuff. Anyway, I doubt I'll buy much, if any, of this stuff for some time, because right now I want the Muppet replicas that are out there, but I'd say these are the next things on my list. I also wish they would make replicas of the toys from the old Winnie the Pooh opening, but since I've already started a collection of classic Pooh toys, that would still mean rebuying and would be annoying too, ha.rexcrk wrote:Yeah all of the ones with a Certificate of Authenticity I bought at Toys R Us with the exception of Rex, whom I only saw at the Disney Store. I love this line. I posted a bunch of pictures in the toy story thread, but I'll repost them here for anyone who hasnt seen them yet. these are the ones I have so far.

Im still trying to track down the other bucket of soldiers, I didnt expect them to put out 2 versions. aparantly they couldnt get the data files from pixar in time so they made these then quickly replaced it with the replica versions a week er so later.
Heres a good place to start if you want to see the best versions of each toy.
http://www.disneystore.com/toy-story/to ... /c/303600/
I'll be getting the rest of the line when I can afford them.
Mr potato head and Hamm will be out by black friday, and Jessie is planned for the second wave to hit nexy year in march.
Mr Potatohead was supposed to be out by now, but got delayed due to a defective in its electronics.
I may hold off on buying Rex, because he doesnt have articulation in his jaw. I hear they removed it for safety and/or cost concerns. but I hear they might look into getting it put back in.
quick note about Rex, there are two varients out there, its been discovered that one version has his mouth open, the other closed. personally like the open mouth version better.

Neither, this one's from Outatime. this one's cast from the zyuranger dragon buckler sculpt. I believe argusprops made a custom sculpt, which while great isnt as accurate as mine.JustOneBite87 wrote:Kyle, great pictures! I really like the various poses you have going on there...
Also, I couldn't help but notice your Power Rangers Super Legends Zed figure, which I have one of as well. Great green ranger power coin as well! Did you get that off of ebay or argusprops?
Dropped by Toys R Us today to look at the new Toy Story toys and wow, really nice work on making them film accurate. Buzz Lightyear looks especially impressive.
Don't know if Disney has shipped them out yet, but I'm surprised I didn't see Jesse the Cowgirl, but I have no plans to buy these toys anyway. I just wanted to admire them.

Ok guys, I finally had the chance to take some pics, so here ya go!
This first one is my current shelf setup. You'll notice my original 1995 Buzz, the ~2001 remake of the 1995 Woody (it's pretty much the same, IIRC, except the 2001 one doesn't have wires for posing in his body like the original did), the 1995 Mr. Potato Head, the 1995 Rex, some monkeys from the Barrel of Monkeys, a wind-up Lenny from Burger King when they first came out, the latest Disney Store Slinky Dog, the CoA RC, and the CoA Aliens. (with cameos by some Invader ZIM and Gremlins figures xD).

Same shot, different angle.

*EDIT* New comparison pics later in the thread!
