What next Disney film should be Masterpiece Edition?

Post by MickeyMousePal »

We know that Alice in Wonderland is the first Disney DVD to be on Masterpiece Edition.

We also know that Mary Poppins, Pocahontas and Lilo and Stitch also are coming soon to the Masterpiece Edition.

Which one should be next?

I voted for Tarzan it many great amount of money, have excitement and it’s very romantic.

I want The Rescuers Down Under, but that's not as likely to happen...as many of the others. Also, Mulan.

Tarzan's already available as an excellent Collector's Edition so a new version would be just a re-issue.

I voted for Hercules. Just saw the flick a few days ago and really liked it. I thought it was alot like Aladdin just a little step below in terms of quality.

I think The Rescuers deserves a Special/Masterpiece/Platinum/Limited/Collector's whatever Edition just something besides "Disney's".

I'd say Mulan - its the most deserving of some great special features because of the nature of the film and the fact that it previously came out on an almost featureless DVD.

I agree with Jack, Mulan would be a great masterpiece dvd, and I hope we won't have to wait too long to get it. :)

Tarzan would be nice too.

Like others have said, Mulan's previous release was lacking so I would have to go with that. But I would be really happy with Hercules, Hunchback or Trazan (missed the Collectors's Edition).

I vote for Mulan. I already have the collector's version of Tarzan so I don't need another.

I also voted for Mulan, since the single disk release just wasn't enough for me. The Black Cauldron would also be very interesting but I doubt there will ever be a 2-disk release of Disney's biggest "failure".

Out of these, I'd have to say Hercules. Tarzan already has a wonderful 2-disc set...no complaints there. Hunchback at least has a commentary, an entertaining documentary, anamorphic enhancement and DTS. (Though I'll surely upgrade to the inevitable 2-disc for that.)

Hercules is the obvious choice, then, since it's not anamorphic, and it has about 7 minutes of bonus features, half of which is Ricky Martin singing in Spanish. We need some Michael Bolton action and they give us ZIP!

I chose The Rescuers because it is my favorite and I thought the DVD version that it got was poor and didn't get much put into it. also I would never buy any versions of Hercules, The Emperor's New Groove, Atlantis or Treasure Planet since I really think these films were Disney's real Dark Ages, since the films from the 70's and 80's were much more created and better animated even if they were scketchy. These modern films were animated clearly, but the backrounds and character development stunk, making the movie seem set on some Metal World.

So, I'm working on a The Rescuers and other Great Disney Film fan web site, which I will start after Tangela's Club Online 2.

I really want the Black Cauldron to be restored. It also wasn't Disney's biggest failure. Treasure Planet was. I like both movies though.

Also Tarzan, Emperor's New Groove, and Atlantis don't need a Masterpiece Edition because they already have a 2-disk Collector's edition. Disney could take Tarzan out of print though.

Most definitely Hunchback. Out of the ones listed, it'd be the easiest Masterpiece Edition to make as it had an awesome collector's laserdisc. I'd also buy ME's for Hercules and Mulan, too, in a heartbeat and I think these 3 have a better chance of becoming ME's than most of the non-platinum classics.

I choose "The Black Cauldron". We all know this is impossible, but the movie has a fascinating production history along with even more fascinating deleted stuff. Besides, it needs serious restoration.

Yes it is... I bough the collectors edition a few days before it went out of print (though I already had the 1-disc Brazilian edition). It is one of Disney's best DVDs. I hope you can find it somewhere, Kelly. ;)
