Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days

Post by ajmrowland »

Pronounced 3-5-8 Days over 2.

Just got this game on Tuesday. So far, Graphics and sound design are very impressive for the DS. FMVs are a little laggy, but okay. Voice Acting is good, but the most you'll ever hear of them is battle-grunts and the infrequent laughter or moan in dialogue scenes.

Character development is well-done. The story progression is too slow, and it takes forever to get to new places because of the mission system that has you jumping back and forth between worlds. Spent like 5 hours on the tutorials.

The panels system is decent. Not as brain-wracking as the card-system in Chain of Memories, but also not too easy to deal with. Difficulty is an improvement over the last game(aka, more difficult), but it also remembers how many heartless you've defeated in a room before you last died, and spawns only the remainder when you get K.O'd. That's pretty good, as some are hard to beat.

Enough of my critique.

Since there's already a Birth By Sleep discussion, this topic is now open for general discussion about this game.

Just got this game on Tuesday as well, and I am like 10 hours into it, and it is soooooooo slow... They tutorials were crap. Also, Xion sucks as a partner, she just runs around and casts fire every once in a blue moon, it is VERY annoying.

Graphics and sound are, like already said, quite excellent! Loved the use of Simple and Clean at the beginning! One complaint is that you can hardly tell that this is a Disney game. The only tip offs are the characters, and you dont even talk to them, and you see them for like 30 seconds. I would have liked the Organization to interact a little more.

Anyway, so far so good. I spoiled the ending for myself, so I am just itching to get to the final boss.

I might try this game some time. It sounds pretty good and I have played the first two Kingdom Hearts games on the PS2, which are fun, but frustrating at times too.

I also got it on tuesday and so far I'm loving it. Fortunately I stayed away from spoilers, trailers (except for that one E3 trailer), reviews, anything so that it would be as fresh as possible. I remember when KH II and Smash Bros. Brawl were coming out I knew everything about them and I think it would've been more fun to discover the different things about those games on my own (I would've loved to have been surprised about Pirates of the Caribbean or the old-school Mickey universe worlds in KH II or discovering some of the secret levels and characters in Brawl), I didn't let the hype ruin either of those games for me, but I would've loved the surprises. I didn't wanna know which worlds made it into 358/2 Days and which ones didn't.

*POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD*

So anyway, I've logged about 10 hours into the game and it's great! I've grown really fond of Xion and I love the relationship between her, Roxas, and Axel. How sad for Roxas did you feel when he heard everyone who went to Castle Oblivion was eliminated and he thought Axel did too? And Xion was like disappeared too? And he had to eat that ice cream all by himself.

So far I've been to Agrabah (my favorite Disney movie!), Beast's Castle (My other favorite Disney movie!), Olympus Coloseum (another favorite!), and one mission in Halloween Town (ANOTHER favorite! :D ). I saw a bit where it looked like Riku was giving Xion a hard time, and an Orginization member (probably Saix, I don't quite remember lol) was too.

Very interested to see what happens next!
But the thing that makes Woody special, is he'll never give up on you... ever. He'll be there for you, no matter what.

She gets better.

I think you mean Sanctuary being the song. And the organization chooses operation in secret, so they don't have anyone oppose their plans.

No. Only Halloweentown, Agrabah, Wonderland, Neverland, Beast's Castle, and the Colliseum.

But, the Princess worlds you mentioned do appear in Birth By Sleep for PSP, which is coming to NA in about 6-8 months, guessing.

Numeral title Kingdom Hearts 3 isn't in production at least until next year, and RE: CoM is the most recent, and that was released here last year when square announced the ditching of the PS2. So, expect either a PS3, 360, or Wii KH title in a few years.

Well, trying to reach a broad audience in a game series is hard.

I mean, many who've played and loved KH1, Chain of Memories, and 2 have gone to either Wii, 360, PS3, PSP, DS, any combination, or none at all(which is why Coded, the cell phone game, exists)

That's a lot of fans who are hoping to see their favorite game series on the platform(s) of their choice.

I beat the game exactly 4 weeks after its release.

I really loved the story, but I'm not gonna lie, the game got REALLY old towards the end with all the missions and the Heartless that have a million health bars but would block most of your attacks most of the time. It was pretty frustrating.

But yeah, great story, although I was kind of expecting them to go to Port Royal since Luxord plays a pretty big role in that world in KH II. This game definitely made KH II a little better and I loved how it gave us a little more background on what went on in Castle Oblivion.

One of the best quotes in the game

Xigbar: "Why do you look like I drowned your goldfish?"

I think it's actually "Why are you looking at me like I drowned your goldfish?".

And, like, everyone on the Gamefaqs board loves the line and jokes a lot.

I loved Larxene's "Worst. Mission. Ever!"... very Comic Book Guy-ish

Well, yes, that makes much more sense. Still, I prefer what you said, instead. It sounds almost Engrish-y.
*gasp* I'm going to start an Engrish thing. Like Scaps' WIST and Wondy's WTF! :D

EDIT: Meh. Never mind. Too lazy. Also, Engrish is not as funny out of context.
