http://www.aceshowbiz.com/news/view/00025704.html

If you have not read the books....START I have not read a book worth reading since the Harry Potter series......this is a good series.....there are 5 books in all.....so I hope they see it until the last book which is The Last Olympian.....read it read it or study...

I saw the trailer while seeing Harry Potter 6.....which somehow got a PG rating....note that the last movie got a rating of PG-13.....and this got PG....

You know, I think this series might actually be better as movies than books. I wouldn't call the books great, but I thought they had a strong voice to them. I liked that Percy and Annabeth weren't cliched characters, and the fact that they become a couple comes off very real to me (where it kind of just gradually happens without either meaning it to).

Anyway, I was googling some of the actors, and I think this looks to be well-cast, too.

I don't think I have ever heard of these books, but I saw the trailer for the movie during HBP and I think it looks interesting.

I love this series, as a fan of Greek mythology....
But I haven't read the last one yet. Is it any good? I don't mind spoilers in the least. And I do think this film will be interesting!

In actuality...I haven't read books 1-4 but I read the 5th one called The Last Olympian.....so I am going to try to pick up books 1-4 but I will wait until January...due to money issues or lack of the cash :P

I want to see this movie too. It's directed by Chris Columbus. So even if the movie doesn't end up to be outstandingly wonderful, I know I'll still enjoy it. Also, it stars the talented Logan Lerman, who was Bobby in "Jack & Bobby", one of my most favourite television shows ever.

BTW, it's "thief" not "theif". ;)

I'm a newbie here, so please excuse any mistakes I make. I've read this series, and liked it a lot, but when I saw a trailer for the movie showcasing what all of the characters looked like, I was appalled. I know for sure that Annabeth had BLONDE hair. I think that movie book-adaptions are fun and all, but they kind of spoil how YOU picture the characters in a book if you've already read it.

Well... changing a character's hair color is appalling. If that pushed you so far, I'd consider not seeing the movie, any further changes, of which there will surely be, will undoubtedly enrage you to the point of throwing your popcorn at patrons.

javascript:emoticon('') Yeah, I've done that before. I didn't mean for it to sound that way, I just have always had this mental image in my head of what they all look like. I'll probably see it anyway, just to see if they added any plot devices, but I'm not too worried about minor details. I probably shouldn't have used that word...
BTW, is it just me, or does Grover look like he isn't a satyr? I know in the books] that he uses a disguise to hide his hooves, but in the movie it looks like he's normal.

No need to put "javascript: emoticon" when using an emoticon here.

As for the film, I haven't read any of the books, but this looks pretty good. I'll probably see it sometime.

Disney World sounds so a lot better than watching that movie...

Okay....Spoilers for the film....Im going to just post apparently what I noticed WAS TOTALLY THROWN OUT OF THE MOVIE AND MISSING FROM THE BOOK  I know I should have seen this coming but....go figure.....anyway highlight it below to see whats not in the movie and whats lacking about it !! and its not just Annabeth's Hair color being red instead of blonde.... :x

Okay....it started out well....I had high hopes....except when Grover lifted up Medusa's Head in the small hotel not the lotus one but a maid apparently saw it and screamed bloody murder.....now the problem with that is if your ead the books.....theres suppose to a magical thing that doens't let mortals see the creatures....called The Mist.....but apparently that got thrown out of the plot....so I was like okay...oh well...althought that really is important in the book....and then they did I feel rush after the Lotus Hotel....but I went with it....oh and the camp driver apparently oh something with A and he has eyes all over him in the book.....he wasn't even in the movie....but thats not the half of it....Apparently they threw out the Ares twist.....meaning...Ares didn't even appear or even had a fight.....Ares was absent..they threw the whole story out.....and then.....they had Luke fight him in New York.....not at the camp.......GRR....and then Krono's except for a mention of his name in the start of the movie.....apparently wasn't even mentioned as the mastermind behind the stolen Bolt......It was Luke all luke apparently because he hated Hermes and they really didn't show Hermes at all....oh and Charon of the underworld was dull....idk Chris Columbus fluked....and it looks like they just made the movie to stand alone without making the other books because if they are going to mess it up this bad.....just reboot it in 10 years with a guy who might actually include stuff that was in the book that made the book fun and enjoying.....this is another spiderwick/Lemony Snicket and now add Percy Jackson to the the list of books that Fox wrecked....oh and apparently Percy was 17 in the movie rather than 11 in the book.....Although when they were on the road to the underworld they played the AC/DC song Highway to Hell...so I thought that was cute/funny.....

See it at your own risk...although if you havnt read the book then I'd recomend it as a great movie....if you read the book....except a lot of stuff to be missing....

Oh, well. I wasn't planning on seeing it anyway, I'm just disappointed they screwed it up.

I just saw the movie yesterday (btw, I didn't read the book). I thought it was alright, but some things confused me, like Why is Medusa still alive? Wasn't she killed by Perseus? Also, why are the lotus-eaters in Las Vegas? Why is Mt. Olympus in the Empire State building? they never explained these things. But like I said it was alright. Not sure if I want to read the books.

I read the book a while ago and I tend to have a short memory with details of a book, but...

I believe it is explained that monsters never really die. They sort of vaporize and disappear, so you may have to deal with them again, but not immediately.

I'm not sure what a lotus-eater is... EDIT: Just looked it up- I don't remember that being in the book, but it may have been. What makes this worse, though, is I didn't even know what a lotus eater was, and I read the Odyssey. That's one book I severely need to re-read.

In the books, the Greek Gods follow where ever the ideals of Western Civilization are the strongest, so of course they're in the USA (and the Underworld is in Los Angeles, he, he)... I guess the author chose the Empire State Building in particular because (according to Wikipedia), it's the tallest building in New York.

Oh my. I loved the books, but I wasn't intending to see the movie, for fear that this is what would happen. And I was right. I really wish I wasn't, but there we are.

I had a bad feeling that this would happen as well. I love the books but the minute I heard that they were changing so much I was really disappointed. I can take a few minor plot changes but when you have whole characters that play such an important part in the book (SPOILER: WTF?! There was no Ares? He was the main adversary/ villain in the first book for pity sake!) completely missing, and when they completely change the characters' personalities then I think you might as well write your own story and completely forget about basing it on anything.

A good example to me is The Haunting. I adored the original 1963 film, but the remake to me was just pitiful. I'm shocked that they even said it was based on Shirley Jackson's wonderful novel since all they did was take the character names and completely rewrote the whole frickin' thing any way.

I never read the book, so I have no expectations in that department. It wasn't the best family fantasy. I'd say it was better than Eragon though. But certainly no where near as good as Harry Potter. I found the villain to be very weak. And he reminded me too much of Harry Osborn. In character, acting, and even his looks.

Grover bothered me due to his inconsistent walking. In his regular pants, he sometimes walked like a satyr and sometimes not. Least with the crutches, his true legs kept the illusion.

Though I liked the use of many of the Greek myths, they added nothing new to it. It felt like the story was just a tool to tell bits and pieces of the original tales. It didn't feel like an original story at all.

All in all, I DID enjoy the movie, for what it was. I took my daughter and we sat down next to a father and his son. The father and I kept making quiet jokes to eachother through the movie, I couldn't help it.
When we saw Percy's mom's car, the guy said, "Nice car."
When it got totaled, I said, "Not a nice car no more."

The burning money scene was the best. Also whe Grover first revealed himself was a cool scene.
