South Park: Bigger Longer and Uncut comes to Blu October 13

Post by zackisthewalrus »

From Blu-ray.com:
Soccer moms and other upright citizens, take cover. Paramount Home Entertainment has announced that it will release the irreverent and profanity-laden animated movie 'South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut' on Blu-ray on October 13. Video will be 1.85:1 1080p with a Dolby TrueHD soundtrack, accompanied by English, French and Spanish subtitles.

Extras include:
Commentary by Matt Stone and Trek Parker
Music Video: "What Would Brian Boitano Do"
Three theatrical trailers (in HD)
I wish I could pick this up, but if my parents knew that I've seen this, they'd probably ground me. Haha. I love the movie, and I really wish I could get it.

I probably first saw this movie when I rented it on video when I was either twelve or thirteen. I remember watching it a lot during the five days I had it. I think it's a pretty good tv-to-film movie (Like The Simpsons Movie) and I still have yet to own it on DVD. I am not sure if I want it on blu-ray or not since it would not be fit for HD.

I would disagree. First off, every film benefits from an HD presentation. Second, season 12 was released on Blu-ray, and many reviews stated that even though they didn't expect it, it was a giant leap forward to what they saw on television. And third, the movie has a lot of CG effects, like the scenes set in hell, which would look amazing in HD.

I remember seeing this in the theater. Pretty funny movie. Not sure if its worth an upgrade on Blu-ray or not. Depends on the price and reviews...

Don't waste your money. This movie is already digitally animated, and will look as good as if not better than Blu-Ray on your Blu-Ray player. It times like this that studios look like they are money-grubbers looking for any way to earn a buck by putting on movies to the unsuspecting buyers.

If the film has been digitally filmed (i.e. Public Enemies, Shrek movies, all digitally animated films) you don't need to buy it on Blu-Ray. The upconvert will look as good as the BD.

There are lots of DVDs being released today if you read the back it says 'digitally remastered from the original source', so that means you will have the best picture there can be, even if you just upconvert with your Blu-Ray player. Good example, the Clint Eastwood Dirty Harry box set. All five movies have been digitally remastered and are pristine. I actually bought the Blu-Ray version and took it back and got something else when I realized there was no visible improvement in the picture from the up converted picture.

:D
The only way to watch movies - Original Aspect Ratio!!!!
I LOVE my Blu-Ray Disc Player!

Bull. Film has a higher quality than HD and definitely dvd has, so of course it's going to look better on Blu-ray. If you really think movies like Ratatouille look as good on dvd, you're sadly mistaken. Also, every restoration is done in at least 2K, so Blu-ray's resolution will be closer than dvd's.
Plus, the South Park movie was released nine years ago and wasn't even transferred from the digital source. Plenty of room left for improvements.

Dammit! I wish they had included that with the original release.

I'm a commentary nut so I'm being very tempted to double dip.
