A World of Pure Imagination Comes to Blu-ray...

Post by zackisthewalrus »

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory is coming to Blu-ray on October 20, 2009.

From Blu-ray.com:
As we informed last week, Warner Home Video has announced the Blu-ray release of 'Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory' for October 20. As we expected, this will be a DigiBook edition. However, there is no information on whether there will be a lossless audio track included. For those that care, the disc will be a BD25.

Extras are as follows:
Commentary with the Wonka Kids
Pure Imagination: The Story of Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory
Four sing-along songs
Vintage featurette
Theatrical trailer

Yeah, i've seen that announcement. It's been expected for awhile now, and the HD DVD has been available, so no reason why they should've waited so long to port this title, unless they decided to re-encode it at a higher bitrate.

Once more, with feeling...

Veruca Salt:
Gooses! Geeses!
I want my geese to lay gold eggs for Easter

Mr. Salt:
It will, sweetheart

Veruca:
At least a hundred a day

Mr.Salt:
Anything you say

Veruca:
And by the way

Mr. Salt:
What?

Veruca:
I want a feast.

Mr. Salt:
You ate before you came to the factory

Veruca:
I want a bean feast!

Mr. Salt:
Oh, one of those

Veruca:
Cream buns and doughnuts and fruitcake with no nuts
So good you could go nuts

Mr. Salt:
You can have all those things when you get home

Veruca:
No, now!!

I want a ball
I want a party
Pink macaroons and a million balloons
And performing baboons and ...
Give it to me
Rrhh rhhh
Now!

I want the world
I want the whole world
I want to lock it all up in my pocket
It's my bar of chocolate
Give it to me
Now!

I want today
I want tomorrow
I want to wear 'em like braids in my hair
And I don't want to share 'em

I want a party with room fulls of laughter
Ten thousand tons of ice cream
And if I don't get the things I am after
I'm going to scream!

I want the works
I want the whole works
Presents and prizes and sweets and surprises
Of all shapes and sizes
And now
Don't care how
I want it now
Don't care how
I want it now

Yes, I love Family Guy! That was actually probably one of the first clips I saw from the show...

Given the name of the song, it seems rather fitting to have a shaky camera.

Does anyone know what the quality of the HD DVD is? Like, how good was the video?

Didn't HD-DVD die out...?

Well yes, but before it did, this was released on HD DVD, but not Blu-ray...

EDIT: I should probably note that I'm asking just in case Warner uses the same transfer for the Blu-ray...

They should put the Willy Wonka parody segment (it's about 12 minutes long) on the dvd. Unless, the dvd's directed to kids.
