Homophobia from a UD member
So, a user called WarriorofDestiny contacts me via MSN. I find out he's recently registered on UD (under which username I do not know) and must have added me to his chat through the address I provide on my user profile page. I feel a little hesitant talking with him, as I've never seen him post on UD (so for all I know he could be lying). However, he seemed nice enough and I gave in. We had a brief conversation. He seemed to be asking me an awful lot about myself, which I found a little weird, but replied so as not to come off as rude. He said that he was aware I was Maltese and that he knows someone who's Maltese. He said that he's Canadian. Blah blah blah ...
Today he contacted me again, and asked me if I was gay.
I said yes.
And he hurled verbal (well, written) abuse at me. After a few more lines, I blocked him. He insulted me aswell as the entire UD community. Yes, you guys too.
I'm writing this since although this sort of stuff seems to happen on the internet, it's the first time it's happened to me - and I feel a bit stunned. If "Warrior of Destiny" is reading this I expect he needn't much brain power to realise that I'm incredibly disgusted at him. I'm not going to say "I hate you!" or "Go to hell!!" to him. I'll just say that I hope he changes his attitude for his as well as other people's good.
I'm itching to post the brief conversation we had today. However, I'll wait to see if the mods think it's OK (i.e. it will do no harm) until I do so.

First off, that's really unexpected and rude of W.O.D askin highly personal questions, I always ask bout the basics, Movies, Books, Music, social activites, etc then I wait for the person to move up the bar of friends.... Sorry bout your unpleasant experience Julain....we all face rudeness everyday. You handle the situation fairly well and remained mature when the matter kept goin in the deep end on W.O.D's term.

I reported his ass to Luke a couple of weeks ago. He's some guy that's been lurking the boards for like 3 or 4 years. He's IMed a few of us. He's just a douche, pay no attention to him. Life goes on.

"Hip hop frightens you, doesn't it....Hmmm...Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate. Hate leads to endlessly posting threads about stupid white people. Hmmmmm....."

I talked to this guy. I'm fairly certain I have. It was on AIM, his name was RetroJunker1980. He said he was Canadian and asked me if I was gay. I answered 'No', and he started saying he's Catholic and hates gays or some sh*t like that. After this (and a barrage of incredibly personal questions), I politely lied, said I had to leave, and blocked him. I wish I could remember what he said his username was, but I won't tolerate homophobia and cyberstalking like this.

He's not registered as WarriorofDestiny as it's not in the Memberlist (page 190 when "Username" "Ascending" is selected):Jules wrote:So, a user called WarriorofDestiny contacts me via MSN. I find out he's recently registered on UD (under which username I do not know)

Yeah, he IM'd me the other day, and the topic of sexuality didn't come up, but maybe that's because I'm a girl? I had seen that the guy had made no posts, so I was hesitant to talk with him at first, thinking he was a "troll" or whatever. He wasn't rude to me, but on principle, since I was also talking with Chris, and he told me that the guy was rude, I blocked him.
Ugh, some people.

Whenever I am contacted by someone I don't know I don't answer back, at all. It might be rude but if I don't know the person I shouldn't be talking to him or her.
That's why whenever someone contacts me on AIM I ask who they are, where they are from and ask for their user name on the site and see if I remember them. If not, I politely decline the offer and block him or her if they continue to bother me.
So if anyone wants to chat with me make sure to tell me who you are and where you are from.
So sorry to hear about this, Julian. As painful as it must be to be insulted by someone like that I hope you grow stronger with this and don't lose faith for people.
I am not gay, but I am very proud of my heritage. If someone insulted me over my Puertorican roots I too would be very upset.

The thing about AIM, anyway, is that you have to accept or decline a person based on their username- you can't read their message and then decide not to...I mean, you can always block them after you read their message. When I get a message from someone I don't know, which is rare, I'll ask if I know them. If I don't, and they're not a UD member, then I will not talk with them and often will block them.pap64 wrote:Whenever I am contacted by someone I don't know I don't answer back, at all. That's the one thing I hate about the anonymity the internet can provide, people hide behind their screen names just to freak out on others and feel better about their lowly existence. Sorry you had to go this.
This is the kind of reason behind why I never post my IM's handles publicly. Friends are more than welcome to ask though.

Sorry to hear that, Julian. I too have recently been contacted by, I presume, the same person but since I never use MSN I kinda left him hanging and never confirmed his request. His s/n is moddy1980@sympatico.ca. I googled it and apparently UD's not the only forum he stalks:

I'm so sorry that you had to deal with that, Julian.
This is one of the main reasons why I always remain cautious around PMs if people ask me for personal info.

Unfortunately, it's also a good percentage too of people as well. One of my main reasons why I'm leaving Christianity and converting to Judaism.Jack Skellington wrote:Ugh, I hate people who use God as a reason to insult homosexuals, get a life people.

Sorry to hear that happened to you Julian....but it sounds like you handled it the best way to handle situations like that...
I am not gay but still....no one should go around and condenm other people even on the internet about their preference in sexulaity or even religion for that matter....or color of their skin etc... the list goes on and on..
I have not been contacted by this guy but if I am I will not accept him to talk to me....

Wow! I feel bad for not having much to say in return except "thank you".
No wait, I have something to say.
It feels so good to read your comforting comments! *grouphug*

Sorry to hear that some of you have been taking absolute crap from what sounds like an absolute w*nker. To go hurling abuse at somebody you don't know (and let's be honest...even amongst the vast majority of regulars, we pretty much know each other only virtually) all connected to an admittedly benign site is pretty weird as well. It's like this guy has a serious mental disorder, to be quite fair.
I'm glad you blocked him Julian - anybody who got trolled by him ought to do so as well.
