6th Annual UltimateDisney/DVDizzy Forum Awards

Post by AwallaceUNC »

Hi, and welcome to the 6th Annual UltimateDisney.com / DVDizzy.com Forum, Website & Member Awards!

Over the last five years, these awards have become something of a tradition here. We've had a lot of fun with them and I hope that can continue. The Annual UD Forum Awards are a chance for all the posters here to recognize each other's contributions to the always-fun, always-informative community that is the Ultimate Disney / DVDizzy Forum.

The rules are simple and are the same as last year's. You may submit up to FIVE nominations in each of the categories that appear below. Nominations must be emailed to udforumawards@aaronwallaceonline.com to be valid - no PMs accepted. Please make "6th Annual UD Forum Nominations" your subject line. You may not nominate yourself for anything, nor can you nominate a thread/review/idea that you authored. Of course, past winners may be nominated and win again. For those of you concerned, I won't be scrutinizing your nominations and your submissions will be kept completely secret.

Remember, the intention here is not to pit anyone against anyone else or hurt anyone's feelings. There are a LOT of people participating and only a few can be nominated and even fewer can win. You never know how many votes may have come in for you! Play nice and remember that it's all in good fun. So please, no hurt feelings. :)

Important: "Of The Year" is defined as 5/24/08 - 5/31/09. Only reviews/threads/topics/etc. posted in that time frame are eligible.

Everyone is encouraged to put a lot of thought into this and consider more than just the last month or two.

Please do not post anything about who/what you are nominating in this thread. We want to keep things mysterious.

After they have been sent and tabulated, the official nominations will be posted in Off-Topic for you to vote on. The number of final nominees selected for each category will vary, depending on the numbers received, though the goal is always 3-5 for each (not always possible).

This year, the ceremony will again take place all in one night, rather than spread out over several weeks as has been done in the past. That should again help to alleviate some of the silliness that has marred the ceremony in the past.

And now with all that out of the way, let's get started...

Well silliness is fine, but go look at the ceremony from two years ago and you will see why it's something to worry about.

Just a statement- people should really post their avatars & signatures in the respective threads, since without seeing them, it's hard to vote for them, unless they really stood out. Just saying. :) Oh, and I think I usually write next to the person's name in my voting email what avatar & signature I'm voting for...just because...yeah. :)

*edit* If someone started using their avatar prior to 5/24 (or if we're not sure when they started using it), but they had changed it and then went back to that avatar after 5/24, is it eligible? (Total deja-vu...I think I asked this last year...)

I'm so excited for this!

One question, though, Aaron: I'm a little confused about the "Honorary Award." Can you explain it a little bit more?

Another question: Have there even been any new CD reviews? The ones that say "New!" are from 2007...?

Another question: Are there any "Site Articles" eligible for being nominated this year? The newest one seems to be from HSM2?

Yet another question from the Peanut Gallery: If a thread has two parts or more, do we just list it as one for the Topic/Thread of the Year category?

Noms are sent after the 3rd try. First time I sent the noms to a family member and the second time I closed the window trying to close a pop-up   Hopefully they made it because I don't think I have the energy for a 4th attempt. :)

I found the answer from last year's thread:

2. You may nominate a forum member based on any avatar, since you are nominating the person. It's up to you whether you want to reference specific avatars when you send in your nomination for the person. To answer your question, though, you should be considering avatars that appeared after 5/8/07 (however, if an avatar originally appeared prior to that date but has been used since then, that's fair game).

*edit*

If a subject came out before 5/24/08, but we were still discussing it after that, can we nominate it for Breaking News of the Year?

Here are answers to the questions posed thus far:

If someone started using their avatar prior to 5/24 (or if we're not sure when they started using it), but they had changed it and then went back to that avatar after 5/24, is it eligible?
Yes!

One question, though, Aaron: I'm a little confused about the "Honorary Award." Can you explain it a little bit more?
The honorary award is always a special title that is given to someone each year. Think of it kind of like a Lifetime Achievement Award (though the honorary award isn't always for lifetime achievement). We've given away at least one of these each year. I ultimately decide who to give the special award to but it's based on the suggestions that you guys send in. The more suggestions I get, the easier the decision is to make!

Another question: Have there even been any new CD reviews? The ones that say "New!" are from 2007...?
No there haven't been. I've removed the CD category.

Another question: Are there any "Site Articles" eligible for being nominated this year? The newest one seems to be from HSM2?
Yes, there are some. Escapay pointed some out; I'll look to see if there are more.

Yet another question from the Peanut Gallery: If a thread has two parts or more, do we just list it as one for the Topic/Thread of the Year category?
Each part counts as a separate thread. If there are 2 parts posted in the last year, you can nominate one or the other... or both, but it will count as 2 of your 5.

Wonder if Joan Rivers will finally get to make out with ichabod this year ...
I think that's always a possibility.

If a subject came out before 5/24/08, but we were still discussing it after that, can we nominate it for Breaking News of the Year?
Generally speaking, I would say no, but if you have a particular question about a topic, you can ask me about it specifically.

I found the answer from last year's thread
One change from last year's thread answer is that I *do* want people to submit specific avatars this time rather than just the name of the forum member.

What about Blu-ray?
Okay no one posted this... but per a suggestion received via email, I've added a Blu-ray Review of the Year category (see the category list above). Please add this category to your nominations!

If any of these answers require you to make a change to the nominations you've already submitted, you may do so. Just please note in your email that you are adding to, changing, or replacing your previous submissions.

Thanks!
