Love the trilogy. I just might get it, even though it's only the theatrical so far(EEs likely to coincide with the Hobbit).

i guess i will wait for the extended versions of the movies to be released. Even when it is really tempting to see LOTR in High definition sooner. I guess it has to be breathtaking.

I am totally happy with the up-cnversion on "LOTR" Trilogy that I wait for them to release the extended editions in Blu-Ray. Why waste the money on theatrical versions when the extended version will probably have lots of extras as the standard DVD's did.

For me, for now, LOTR Extended Edition watched on my Blu-Ray player, and upconverted are just wonderful. I may not even pay to upgrade because of the quality of these films in the upconversion mode.

:D
The only way to watch movies - Original Aspect Ratio!!!!
I LOVE my Blu-Ray Disc Player!

TheDigitalBits has an excellent article about Lord of the Rings on Blu-Ray:

Michael Pellerin on The Lord of the Rings on Blu-ray

It's a great read, as you can see just how much work goes into the a/v preparation and presentation and the plans for the "Ultimate HD Set".
