I searched all over for a post on posting pictures of your DVD collections, couldn't find one that wasn't disney-related.

Here's about about half of my DVD's:

Sorry if the pics are a little big. I have high-speed now, so they load really quick. And I've had a new flat-computer screen, so all images look smaller anyway. I'll make the next ones much smaller if there's any problem.

I saw about 70+ that I have, in one form or another... I didn't count the Masters of Horror, but I have about 1/2 dozen total from the first and second seasons.

Just curious, why 2 copies of Tenebre & Phenomena? Err, never mind... How are those two remastered versions? Are they the same cuts? Does Tenebre have the missing 15 seconds of footage? Nice Argento collection, btw!

Are you an Anchor Bay fan in particular, or did you just end up with so many because they put out so much good horror? I think I've got over 100 AB titles myself, including some box sets. Of course, not all of them are horror.

If you're a bonus-feature junkie like I am, the boxset is totally worth getting. The bonus disc has 2 hours of stuff you can't get on any of the other discs.

littlefuzzy wrote:Just curious, why 2 copies of Tenebre & Phenomena?
The new featurettes / interviews with cast & crew. Plus, I actually got them free on a Deep Discount buy-1-get-1-free deal by buying the 2-disc editions of Re-Animator and Day of the Dead.

littlefuzzy wrote:How are those two remastered versions? Are they the same cuts?
The widescreen is fixed, made anamoprhic for widescreen-tv's. On a normal TV, which I have, the Tenebre bars are smaller and the Phenomena bars are bigger. Since originally, on the '99 Tenebre DVD, the bars were abnormally thick for 1.85:1 and the '99 Phenomena bars were abnormally thin for 1.66:1. They're both fixed.

The 5.1 English track for Phenomena is the same.

The 5.1 English track for Tenebre has been fixed. On the old DVD, there was a lot of loud noise, like air blowing, that I assume wasn't supposed to be there. That's been cleaned-up / removed.

There is a substancial error on the new Phenonema disc that wasn't on the old one. During the scene where Inga, the monkey, is in the park and pulls the razor out of the trash can, the screen inexplicably goes pitch black and dims out almost all the light for about 4 seconds. That's very irritating and bothers me.

littlefuzzy wrote:Does Tenebre have the missing 15 seconds of footage? Nice Argento collection, btw!
Thanks.

Neither film has had the deleted material restored. Tenebre may be missing 15 seconds - which is still print damaged and I doubt is restorable at all, but Phenomena is missing about 4 minutes worth of shots that have never been restored to region-1 and exist in Japanese and German DVD's. In fact, you'll find a list of the edited material right here: http://www.darkdreams.org/phenomenaintegral.html . Though, unfortunately, the shots/scenes still haven't been uploaded on YouTube or anywhere else.

littlefuzzy wrote:Are you an Anchor Bay fan in particular, or did you just end up with so many because they put out so much good horror? I think I've got over 100 AB titles myself, including some box sets. Of course, not all of them are horror.
First, I was a fan of their horror. Now I'm just a fan of their discs.

Though, it bothers me how all the work they put into Dawn of the Dead, they haven't put in on many of their later discs. It wouldn't be hard to import those extended sequences from Phenomena and put at least the damaged Tenebre footage as an extra on the DVD. They did it for House by the Cemetery, which you probably know about- it's a hidden feature on the Extras Menu, an extended scene with no audio that they discovered but were unable to put into the film.

Next- on the new Hellraiser DVD. They should know the value of the on-set interview(s) with Clive Barker. Yet, that's not on Region 1, not on either any of the discs they've released. With all the new bonuses they put on the 20th Anniversary Special Edition, they could have made a 2-disc edition and put everything (trailers, tv spots, photo galleries, the New World 1987 home video ad, and the new & 2000 interviews) on there, plus had room for the other Region 2 / laserdisc bonuses. Now what I hear is going to happen, is they're going to release the Hellraiser boxset thing all over again in Region 1, without the 3rd movie (which was in the region-2 set), and maybe or maybe not finally include the other region 2 extras / bonus disc. Same thing is supposed to happen with Phantasm, only without the 2nd movie. Anchor Bay or so-rumor has it, will be releasing the sphere-boxset with just parts 1-2-4.

I'm also really not crazy about 3 or more of the Roseanne seasons not being the full original episodes. Because of that, I'm not buying seasons 1, 8, or 9. I'm also holding off on buying 7 until I know it's not the syndicated versions.

One thing that really bugs me about Anchor Bay is their lack of subtitles. I don't know if they include Closed Captions, but often I'm watching on a TV without that option. My mother is getting hard of hearing, and I find myself watching a lot of stuff with subtitles on now, just to catch every word (especially when they mutter, or it's against a noisy background, or they are using horrible accents, etc.)

I've even noticed on some Italian horror titles that they may include an Italian dub, but no English subtitles (I think Cat O' Nine Tails was that way...) Of course, some of those films were shot without a soundtrack, and then dubbed into whichever language they needed, so there really wasn't an "original language."

Yeah, Anchor Bay DVDs include CC. I own all 9 seasons of Roseanne (plus the Halloween Edition), as well as all 5 seasons of Grounded for Life, and the 2007 restored version of Halloween. Roseanne and GFL have CC, but the Halloween DVD does not include subtitles or CC, which is annoying.

Anyways, once I get a working camera, I will post pictures of my collection.

Anchor Bay's DVDs haven't always had CC. Before 2000, none of their DVDs had CC. And throughout the year 2000, only 2 discs had them (out of those that I own - Hellraiser: THX and Children of the Corn).

2001 is when they started really doing CC on a wider number of discs. Though still, not all. 2003 is when they really started putting CC on every / almost every disc.

As for your 2007 restored version of Halloween... I have a snaking suspicion that that's just the 1999 disc of Halloween with a newer cover. Does it say it has THX? On the cover, or on the disc itself? And, when the Anchor Bay logo shows when the disc plays- does it have music playing along? They didn't update their logo, add music and change the animation until around the fall of 2003. I think you have an old disc- not just an old program. My 1999 Halloween THX disc has no CC.

Well, I bought the DVD brand new at Circuit City, so I'm not sure how it could be the '99 disc in the new case. And it doesn't say it has THX anywhere (on the box, slipcover, or disc). Then again, it doesn't advertise CC anywhere on the box (not even on the spine), like the other Anchor Bay DVDs I own do. You're probably right, they most likely just remastered the 1999 DVD. I'm not a huge fan or Anchor Bay / Starz DVDs because of the lack of subtitles, and the menus are very sloppy and cheesy - I could make better menus for DVDs!

From what I understand, the 2007 Halloween (in the "spiffy" slipcover with the embossed grid stuff) is the EXACT same DVD as the previous release... The remastered claim was on the original version: "Halloween as you've NEVER seen it before", yadda yadda yadda.

I have the one with the lenticular card on the cover that shifts from the knife/pumpkin to the MM mask. Unfortunately, I never found a copy of the extended TV cut.

I wish they'd actually do an extended DVD that includes the theatrical gore/nudity/language, AND the added TV scenes (maybe through branching.) Then, give us a shiny new transfer, and a second disc of extras.

Oh, that's interesting. And by the way, I saw a copy of the TV Cut on DVD used for $10.99 at FYE. I was going to buy it, but I found the last working copy of the Limited Collector's Edition of Saw V. The FYE this was at is about 45 minutes away, but I might check the one near me to see if they have it (I doubt it).

And I agree, I want a DVD with an ACTUAL extended version, because technically, the TV cut isn't really extended, it's edited, since all the nudity and lots of gore was cut out.

The '99 DVD was already remastered. I promise you Anchor Bay didn't do any new work on it. Other than the cover. And again, what were the menus like? Could you describe the images? Then I'll know whether what I'm saying is right or not. I know they didn't work on the film. But I want to know if they did anything to the menus / logos at all.

Yeah, I knew it. If Blue Underground didn't touch-up or produce anything new for the re-releases of Inferno and Deep Red, Anchor Bay isn't going to do anything new for Halloween. Ever again. In fact, the 2-disc 25 Years of Terror thing could almost be viewed as a triple-dip. Because Nancy Kyes being interviewed about the original movie is something they should have gotten for the Halloween special editions and never did.

littlefuzzy wrote:Unfortunately, I never found a copy of the extended TV cut.
Don't feel bad. Not only are the scenes absolutely nothing special and don't fit in with what the movie is now at all, but they were filmed in 1981. Which is obvious when you see how much older Michael Myers is now. I guess they must have gotten a new actor to play the kid. Though even the original kid would have been 3 years older. At least.

And you can see what I'm talking about. Here they are:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IWvgECyb08E

In High Quality, I think it fixes problem you see in "normal" quality where their lips don't match the words they're saying. Just checked: Nope. It's the 2nd scene, with Laurie and Linda talking to Annie where the lips don't match the words and it's stuck that way.

littlefuzzy wrote:I wish they'd actually do an extended DVD that includes the theatrical gore/nudity/language, AND the added TV scenes (maybe through branching.)
What? The movie has no gore in it. You've heard John Carpenter talk about the movie, right? He purposefully made sure there was no gore in it.

FYE is great. Their selection sucks, but they never bother to remove DVD's that go out of print. I got my 2-disc Re-Animator: Millennium Edition from them for $12.99, almost a year after it went out of print.

Wait- you guys are still talking about the original Halloween right?? There's no gore in that movie. None at all. Only a tiny bit of blood on a dead body and a little on Michael Myers. That's it.

So much horror! (And not just the lack of alphabetical orderness to Laz's movies either but so much horror to choose from :P)

You know Laz I could always come by to organize those for you, but then you might not find what you want right away  I did that to my uncles collection once took 3 hours just to end up disorganized again. :(

Also, jrboy I'm officially jealous of how freakishly organized your movies are. It's would make Monica (from Friends) proud ;)

Anways....I'd post pics but I can't seem to find my camera but to give you a preview look at the pictures posted here already then imagine a lot of different movies all organized by genre and then alphabetical order on different shelves in a small cramped room. :P

Ha. My collection is organized. Most of it chronilogically, then by subgenre. The first 3 pictures are of the first shelf, which is the "Hall of Fame" collection sorted into 2 halves - DVD's that are not copy-protected so I can make VHS tapes of scenes and so-forth, and DVD's that are. The second 3 pictures are of the 2nd shelf, which is divided into 4 basic subgenres - Sci-Fi Horror, European gore films, schlock, and then the rest (ghosts, killers, Satanic, vampire/werewolf, anthology, and zombie/demon) are put together. But all are very carefully organized in groups of DVD format and ordered chronologically.

If they were alphabetized - it would be a complete mess. You can't put Anchor Bay discs next to Paramount, and Universal next to MGM. They must be separated at all costs!

A friend of mine has a digital camera with one of those SD Mini discs, so I can transfer a photo right to my computer after taking it. Takes under 2 minutes to show a brand new photo this way. The longest part of the process is Photobucket.

As far as the gore on Halloween, I meant the stuff that was cut, so they could insert the 12 minutes of TV stuff... I guess "violent" would have been closer than "gore"...
also, the network version replaces 12 minutes of violent footage with less gory scenes. These scenes were shot simultaneously with "Halloween II" in 1981, and can be found in the LaserDisc version of the original film.
