The Cheetah Girls are over
I looked for an existing thread to put this in, but there wasn't just one overarching Cheetah Girls thread.
http://www.mickeynews.com/News/DisplayP ... E_1299Over
Adrienne Bailon, member of Disney's multi-platinum The Cheetah Girls, confirmed that the group is officially over. "I think that the brand has now come to an end," she told Just Jared Jr. at the Sundance Film Festival. "But like everything - 'High School Musical' will no longer be. Same thing. We had a great run."
"But I think Disney - it was a platform for us to continue the dreams and they want to spread the same Cheetah Girl message to carry with us, which is Girl empowerment. Every project that the three of us do will always incorporate that. We'll be friends forever," she continued.
The girls have their own solo projects they've been working on. Bailon has been working on solo material, including two solo songs which debuting on the upcoming "Confessions of a Shopaholic" soundtrack. Kiely Williams appeared in last year's "The House Bunny" and is in talks for a role in the upcoming comedy, "The Science of Cool." Sabrina Bryan just released her second dance and fitness DVD, "BYOU2", where she teaches hip-hop and Bollywood-influenced routines.
"It was a great experience and I'm really, really happy I was a part of it," Bailon said.
The girls released their last movie, "The Cheetah Girls: One World", to DVD and Blu-ray in December. They also completed their "Cheetah Girls: One World Tour" last fall.
I'm not 100% surprised. A few months ago, Adrienne sort of pulled a Vanessa Hudgens with a picture, and rumors were that she leaked the picture to sever her ties with Disney. I don't know if that's true or not, but even though I'm not surprised, I am sad. I'm a TCG fan, and I'll be sad to see them go.
I wonder: if Raven had never left the group, do you think that they'd still be together? Could she be a factor in this at all? Maybe not, I don't know- I'm just wondering.
I mean, Adrienne made a good point, how the Disney Channel franchises do have to come to an end- I mean, "Lizzie McGuire" and "That's So Raven" were very popular, and those still came to an end (well, I mean, TSR is continued with "Cory in the House"...).

I can't say I'm entirely surprised, but I am kind of saddened by it. The movies were great, except for One World. The first two were actually really good, but the last one wasn't up to the standard of the first two.
Musically, I think they have some very catchy songs, so it's kind of sad to see them go, but like stated before, everything Disney comes to an end eventually. It makes sense though. The Cheetah Girls were successful, but they really weren't up to the HSM level of success, so I'm kind of surprised they stuck it out this long.
Who knows? Maybe somewhere down the line all four of them will get back together to do one last Cheetah movie.
I bet Raven's off in the distance somewhere saying "I told you so."

I think its the right time to call it quits. I mean, it can't last forever and while I though One World was the best of the three films, I think the girls are at an age where if it goes on much longer, its just going to become ridiculous.
It was unfortunate that Adrienne Bailon's scantly clad photos ended up public, but I don't think that has anything to do with the group disbanding. The movies drew in good ratings and the soundtracks and holiday album sold really well, but their real album TCG, which I was a big fan of, failed to catch on. On top of that, out of the big Disney Channel franchises right now (High School Musical, Hannah Montana, etc...) I always felt like The Cheetah Girls were on the weaker end. The third film drew 6 million viewers on its first night, but the second had 10 million. I also heard that they had low ticket sales for their One World tour.
I know they wouldn't still be together if Raven hadn't left the group. In fact, I don't think there would have been a third film if Raven had stayed. I've heard a lot of stories about how Raven was really rude to the other three during the second film. I guess because she was producing and headlining the film, she got very demanding of the other girls. I heard Adrienne Bailon talk about it in an interview once and she said they would fight a lot. I always thought Raven left because she was to busy with her show and College Road Trip, but I guess not.

I mean ... come on man! The Cheetah Girls are disbanding. Even I can't help but (sniff) shed a tear.

Well, even if that's true; can we blame Raven for being demanding? I mean the second was better in so many ways to the other two. Besides, I always thought Raven left because the franchise didn't have a future, and here it is proving she was right. And I recall Sabrina Bryan saying that Raven and her mom called her the day after she was eliminated from dancing with the stars telling her how angry they were and she deserved to win. So we know she stayed friend with at least one of them if not all of them.

Yes, in fact, I spent all of last night crying into my 600-thread count Egyptian cotton Cheetah Girl sheets, hugging my life-size Raven-shaped PillowBuddy (with extra-supple hips), and cursing God for allowing such a cruel fate.Julian Carter wrote:Nah. Then around three AM, I started listening to complete Cheetah Girls discography while drinking heavily, and ending up recording several scandalous videos and posting them to YouTube in which I blame George W. Bush for the demise of the Cheetah Girls and then drunkenly beg people to leave Adrienne Bailon alone.
I'm sorry, it's been a rough twenty-four hours for me. I'm still keeping the Eternal Flame on my Cheetah Girls memorial shrine burning, though, and that has to count for something.
"Ta ta ta taaaa! Look at me... I'm a snowman! I'm gonna go stand on someone's lawn if I don't get something to do around here pretty soon!"
I don't know why this is even unexpected.
It's what Disney does. They're kid "stars" grow up and the "stars" either find some integrity and want to do proper acting/singing and exit with some dignity or Disney will just dump them as soon as they loose popularity with the crucial under 14's crowd.
It was "bye bye" Duff, "toodles" Lohan. One day it will be "so long" Efron and Hudgens, "Turn the light out on the way out" Cyrus and "don't bother to come back" Jonas Bros.
Such is the way of the world.
