Yay- that's great news! Thanks for sharing!

I really like how Disney is releasing some lesser-known live-action films, even if it's just through the DMC...it's a nice thing!

Ah, yes, Nostra-skippy predicted this through his Columbo-esque detective work.

We must remember this method in the future.

Is the Incredible Journey in the correct aspect ratio? I know it was not in its first release.

Big Red, The Incredible Journey

Post by Mouseketodd »

I'm glad to see these new titles.

Because of $$ limits, I'm only going to buy Big Red at this time. Later, I'll buy The Incredible Journey, among other exclusives I don't yet have.

If this helps, the packet I got in the mail today says that The Incredible Journey is widescreen and Big Red is fullscreen. I assume The Incredible Journey is correctly viewed in widescreen.

It's interesting that Big Red is fullscreen because when it was available from Anchor Bay several years ago, there were both fullscreen and widescreen dvd versions.

Shouldn't be any wider than 1:66.

Today I received Big Red and The Incredible Journey. They were listed as widescreen on the Movie Club website, but the specifications on the back of both cases says they are fullscreen 1.33:1. I put them in my player and fortunately both are in anamorphic widescreen. I'm very happy that they are widescreen, but it seems like a sloppy mistake for Disney to identify them incorrectly on the packaging.

Someone will likely ask what the aspect ratio is and is it correct, but I'm not sure. I'm not good at looking at it and judging, but I can say that it's not very wide, so it's likely 1.66 or 1.78:1. It may be 1.85:1, but again, I'm not good at judging just by looking at the picture on my standard tv.

That's definitely good to know, about them being in anamorphic widescreen! Maybe Disney was going to release them in fullscreen, but then they got some sense knocked into their brains.

Wow! Widescreen DMC Exclusives? I never thought I'd see the day. Way to go DMC! I'm going to go and order them right now.

I forgot that I had ordered these when they were released. I saw them sitting on my shelf still sealed and since Flanger-Hanger wanted screenshots, I decided to open them.

Both films have disc art and come with two inserts, one is a folded add for other Disney Exclusives and the other is a code for Disney Movie Rewards.

The Wonderful World of Disney opening credits from the 70's now play before you get to the menu, instead of being an unskipable feature attached to the movie.

The Beg Red menu uses score from the film in the background and gives you the option to Play or go to Scene Selections (a feature absent from many of the earlier DMC Exclusives).

The print itself is not very clean and probably hasn't gone through any form of restoration, but I'm just glad to have it on DVD at all, let alone in OAR. Note the strange black boarder the surrounds the print. I've never seen one so large that completely frames the image. I have not tried it on a TV to determine if those are eliminated by overscan.

The Incredible Journey also has a static menu with score from the film playing in the background.
<a href="http://s16.photobucket.com/albums/b45/a ... 818663.png" target="_blank"><img src="http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b45/a ... 818663.png" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

The film itself is also full of dust and it would again appear that no restoration has been done, which is the usual for DMC Exclusives. However, the black bars on Journey are much smaller than on Big Red.

Thanks for the caps!

I'm guessing the windowbox effect is don to prevent major overscan on TV sets. You probably won't see it on your TV display.
