Were these on tonight?

Meh. The fact that MTV still has music awards is puzzling to me. Why not juts have the MTV awards for crappy scripted reality shows and forget the music videos altogether?

Rihanna opened :? I thought Britney was meant to?

I'm so happy for Britney! Those moon men have been well overdue! She deserved to win them way before "piece of me" but nevertheless I'm overjoyed, yay! It's Britney b*tch! :D

Am I the only one who is really excited and happy over this years show? I loved Britney (of course), and all her appearances, but I also really enjoyed Disturbia by Rihanna. That was a fantastic concept for a performance, and she did very well with it, considering she has to dance, sing, and manoveure herself throughout various things. And she didn't sound very well, like, she sounded sick, so she did a great job. I also loved her other song, she did better with it. By the way, that song has been leaked for about a week or two Matt, it didnt premiere on the show.
I also thought that Christina's new GIAB remix was rather good, and the performance was great, though I hated that she lipsynched. Totally sucked, in that regards.
And yeah Russell Brand sucked haha.

I wrote notes throughout the show, so here are my thoughts:

* Don't like the host making fun of Jonas Brothers
* Rihanna did a good job ("Disturbia")
* yay- Britney won a VMA!
* The production values have gone down the past few years
* I'm glad Chris Brown won Best Male Video, because I like his song "With You", but I've never actually seen the video
* The host is rude, about Jonas Brothers and Taylor Swift & Chris Brown and Rihanna
* I love Kevin Jonas- he was sooo cute during their performance! <3
* I knew about it beforehand, but it's so awesome how they let Jonas Brothers fans be right at the outdoor stage!
* It's weird how Katy Perry's performance wasn't shown in full- how it was a transition piece between JB's performance & the commercial
* The host is a little inappropriate (epecially about the sexual stuff), but the President Bush/political stuff made me laugh a little
* Lil' Wayne's song mentioned Disney- I'm shocked but somewhat impressed
* I didn't know that guys have their pants hanging low while wearing briefs- usually I've only seen guys' pants hang low while they wear boxers (in reference to Lil' Wayne)
* The host is pretty annoying & is getting on my nerves.
* I've seen better (vocally speaking) "Misery Business" performances by Paramore, but they definitely have energy.
* I looked away for a second- did Paramore end up at the VMA building? How?!?
* Russell Brand needs to leave Jonas Brothers ALONE!
* I love Jordin Sparks for saying what she said about how purity rings aren't bad because not everyone wants to be a slut- In your face, Russell Brand! :)
* I wish the HSM3 cast was on longer, but I'm glad they were there!
* Christina Aguilera reminds me of Lada Gaga. Was she lipsynching "Genie in a Bottle"?
* Christina: was she lipsynching during "Keeps Getting Better"? During parts, I think she sang live, but not during the whole thing. I do like the song, though!
* I'm glad that Russell apologized about JB & purity rings (sort of).
* I wanted Miley to win for Best New Artist, but good for Tokio Hotel.
* Was there a rule that all the winners had to have short speeches?
* Yay for Britney winning her 2nd VMA (but I wanted JB to win).
* It seems like a surprisingly small venue, compared to previous years.
* Yay, 3rd moonman for Britney!
* Impressed that Kanye sang and not rapped (but I didn't watch his whole performance).
* Post-show: Perez Hilton stood up for Jonas Brothers & dissed Russell Brand. :)

Russel was trying way too hard, he sounded drunk to me. Making fun of the Jonas Brothers was both lame and unfair; their purity rings represent something that isn't just a good value, but it's also an aspect of someone else's religion and that should never be tapped into for the sake of comedy. I loved how Jordin Sparks stood up for them. They're promoting a very good principle and they're practically kids anyway. We also have to remember that they have a fan base made up of even younger kids and that sort of thing shouldn't be said.

anyway, I don't think Rihanna did a good job, don't get me wrong I think she's talented, but it just seemed she was out of air. Pink was just amazing, I've never even given her a chance, and I loved her performance. I love Paramore! Hayley is awesome (she was doing a weird dance, but she still rocks).

I have yet to see the clips but from what I saw I (a 16 year old virgin who has no plans of doing anything right now) laughed at the Jonas's (Come on! Superman on a bus was funny) and Bush stuff that were in the opening also after he apologized with that extra cheeky comment I thought about how he used TO be a sex addict (among other things) it was a bit much. I still find him funny; I can't wait for the Forgetting Sara Marshall DVD, the Aldous Snow Spin-off film, will read his book when there is a Canadian release, hope his stand up DVDs will have an R1 release, will continue to listen to the podcast of his BBC radio show, and will continue to marvel in the genius if not vulgarity of this off the wall British comic. That’s the part I think everyone is forgetting didn’t Jon Stewart AND Chris Rock offend the nation at the Oscars? Does Ricky Gervais not offend everyone born past, present and future? Didn’t Craig Ferguson offend Canada and more specifically Toronto on his show? These people are comics. Many of today’s comic’s are a different style than the Bob Newhart’s, Steve Martin’s, or even Richard Pryor’s before them. They should not have to conform to what others think is funny or disregard there own opinion because of the public one. If you want clean comics get ‘em, if you want unpredictable ones go to a non-teen cable network and then get them, if you want someone with appeal but who will conform to others? Get Dane Cook. (No offense to him it’s just he’ll change a lot of his stuff and try to be really safe in someplace but wild and silly in others). My point is that people should be able to say what they wish for comedy or other wise and not have a witch hunt or be deported because of it!

Yeah...I mean, the VMAs always seem to have hosts who make fun of artists...Chris Rock made fun of Hanson back in '97 or '98, which upset me, too...but it's one thing to just make fun of someone's hair or style of music or whatever, but it's a whole other ballgame to make fun of someone's lifestyle choice, like saving themselves for marriage- just because Russell Brand wants to be a whore doesn't mean everyone else needs to. The Jonas Brothers are very decent young men who have strong moral values, and that should be commended, not made fun of...that must have been really awkward for them. It wasn't even funny...at least not to me, anyway...

How so?!?!? She was standing up for what she believes in, as well as, in a way, the Jonas Brothers. I'm extremely proud of her...Russell Brand was joking about a value that she has, and she was standing up for that, and I'm super proud of her. I'm not trying to attack your opinions, but I'm curious as to why you think what you think.

I still think she did the right thing to do; may be she could have said it in better words, though.

That's just it. She said it in a mannor that was not joking and and was just insulting. There are other ways she could have gotten her point across but again I think this is very overblown. The late George Carlin had so many gags about how Religion is bull and said many other things that are offensive about God and such. Did that make me hate him? No, I just accepted and disagreed with his view and waited for jokes I COULD laugh at.

I am glad Britney won, but I feel that MTV felt sorry for her cause of what happened to her last year with her openning act.

That's my opinion.

Pink so ROCKED last night and it was all live! :D
