Mermaids

Post by Ariel'sprince »

Anyone heard about this movie? it was about 3 mermaid sisters that after their father got killed by a fisherman they want to avenge his death,it's a TV movie that was supposed to be a pilot for a TV series.
The sisters were Diana, who's the strong one and she has a hairclip that turns into a trident,Venus who has siren powers so she can hypnotise and contorl guys and even make them lost their memory, and June, who's the closest thing to Ariel, she use a mirror to see useful visions.

Damn, I thought this would be discussion about the 1990 film (the first film for Christina Ricci, and the second-to-last film for Michael Schoeffling, aka the original Jake Ryan)

No.

It's a little, often overlooked genre called "Drama"
Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database

If you want to see a cool mermaid movie, check out She-Creature (the one from a few years back).

Never heard of the Mermaids movie about the mermaids wanting revenge. Some of the description made me think about that Nickelodeon show with the gorgeous Australian mermaids. H2O or something.

As for the Christina Ricci, Cher, Winona Ryder film, I saw that film way too many times considering that I don't care for a lot of aspects about it (the time period it is set in, the characters, Cher), but I was obsessed with Christina Ricci for a few years of my life and was purchasing her past work as well as current. Don't have it anymore though. That was when I was collecting VHS, and since then, I have gotten rid of about half my VHS collection. Probably 3 quarters of it. I don't really miss that particular film. Not that it was a bad film, just not for me. It did have some redeeming qualities though, like Christina and Bob Hoskins.

Want to see a movie about mermaids that is thoroughly entertaining, look for Mr. Peabody and the Mermaid. It is a delightful little film from 1948 starring William Powell and Ann Blyth. Comedies today are not as much fun as watching this great little film from the past.

Not a mermaid technically, but there was also a tv shows from Australia Disney Channel use to show called Ocean Girl. About a girl who could speak with a whale, stay underwater for long periods of time and such. She lived mostly on a small island. Now far from the island was an underwater research station where a single mom and her two sons lived. The mom was a scientist. The boys found the island, and eventually found the girl, Neri. As the show progressed, you found Neri knew little of her past and how she got there and why she had such gifts. Eventually, she finds she has a little sister. And later they discover she and her sister are actually aliens. I loved that show. Many of the stories were about the plight of the seas. Overfishing, whaling, pollution, etc.

I found the trailer for the movie you are talking about...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GyF5YsMu3ro

It seems like it was a mix of Charmed/Buffy the Vampire Slayer with mermaids instead of witches and slayers. The show could have had some potential. Too bad. I would have enjoyed it. Guess I will have to settle for the DVD.

"Everything bounces", best line in that whole trailer, LMAO

Yeah,that's the movie.
It should have been a show,it whould have been really great, someone has the DVD cover?.
And this thread is supposed to be a discussion on that movie, not thread about films about mermaids.
Aquamarine is a great movie,H2O is good thought they weren't born mermaids, they"re humans who turned into mermaids.
about the mermaids wanting revenge
It's actually one of the sisters who wants revenge,I won't spoiler too much.

There's another classic mermaid movie, entitled "Miranda". Believe it was filmed in the 1950s, and it stars Glynis (Mrs Banks) Johns in the title role. Hoping someone brings it to DVD one day.

That's what i was hoping for. The only reason I even know why this film exists is I have spent way too much time just randomly flipping through Leonard Maltin's film guide.

Yeah, I remember seeing a trailer for this. I think it WAS going to be a show or something.

Aquamarine was kind of a cute mermaid movie. Though, of all the tween-girl-aimed movies I've seen, it was the most.

Too bad it wasn't a show :( I whould love to see that, there were a few clips on YouTube but I can't find them, anyway you should really see it :D.
Aquarmarine is very cute and a good movie (Thought it had some unnecessary scenes, like the shopping scene that was out of place),I liked how Aquamarine gets used to land very fast more then, let's say,Madison from Splash.
