Any good Star Wars music sets out there?

Post by rexcrk »

I've got the regular soundtracks for Episodes I, II, and III (and planning on getting IV-VI) but I was just wondering if there are any cool sets for any of the soundtracks.

You know, like the "Complete Recordings" for the Lord of the Rings movies (which are absolutely fantastic btw).

This is what I have, along with the soundtracks to Episode 1 and Shadows of the Empire (still need the other prequel soundtracks):

From reading the reviews really quickly though, it seems there is at least one later release that is even more complete. I recommend just searching on Amazon.

As long as you get the two disc recordings of the OT and the two-disc set for "The Phantom Menace", you have the best CDs commercially available for "Star Wars". Sadly, "AOTC" and "ROTS" have yet to get (legal) two-disc sets.

Also so you know, the OT two disc sets aren't really... complete in the sense that the four disc (or however many they were) LOTR scores are. TPM is the only one to have something like that. Apparently, John Williams doesn't usually release "complete" scores, he prefers to do highlights not in the order you would hear them in a film, but as if her were presenting a concert. I'm not a fan of that, but what can you do. For whatever reason, though, the two-disc TPM is nearly note-for-note what you hear in the movie, and totally worth the purchase.

Yeah, I was looking on amazon and I found this:
http://www.amazon.com/Music-Star-Wars-A ... 865&sr=8-2

Which I believe is just these three packaged together (with a bonus disc of music I already have :P ):

- http://www.amazon.com/Star-Wars-Episode ... 731&sr=1-1
- http://www.amazon.com/Star-Wars-Episode ... 731&sr=1-6
- http://www.amazon.com/Star-Wars-Episode ... 731&sr=1-5

I also prefer it if the songs go in order as we see them in the movie, as opposed to a "concer arrangement" (which I guess is OK in it's own right).

I was always just under the impression that those OT soundtracks released in 2004 were like the PT soundtracks (out of order, not complete). So I'll get whatever is cheaper; buying the 3 soundtracks separately or the 30th anniversary set.

Slightly off-topic but still on the subject of soundtracks going out of order, that's something I don't really like about some of the Disney soundtracks (like Aladdin and the Little Mermaid), they put all the vocal songs first (with some instrumentals in-between) and then the instrumentals. I'd prefer it if they went in order (like Nightmare Before Christmas and The Brave Little Toaster). It's really not THAT big a deal though.

I've recently acquired all three (got ESB and RotJ at Borders for 20% off each with a coupon and I got the ANH soundtrack on amazon) and I'm very happy. It turns out they were what I was looking for! I just mainly wanted all the music from the original trilogy. Oh sure I'd have liked it if they included "Lapti Nek" (the original song in Jabba's Palace) and "Yub Nub" from the original RotJ release as bonus tracks, but it's not that big of a deal.

Now I just gotta get that Phantom Menace "complete recordings"... and here's hoping they something like that for Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith!
