Future Platinum Edition releases announced (next 2 years)

Post by Barbossa »

Here it is:
http://sev.prnewswire.com/entertainment ... 008-1.html

Here's what's coming and when:
Pinocchio: Spring 2009 along with Blu-Ray
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs: Fall 2009 along with Blu-Ray
Fantasia: Spring 2010 along with Blu-Ray
Fantasia 2000: Spring 2010 along with Blu-Ray
(Yes, two Spring 2010 PE DVDs! And Destino will be released! )
Beauty and the Beast: Fall 2010 along with Blu-Ray
...and the cycle continues...

I'm looking forward to these DVDs as I don't have any of these yet! And will probably double-dip with the Blu-Ray. Fantasia will probably look fantastic on Blu-Ray.

So will Fantasia 2000 be a separate release to the original?

I definitely plan to get ALL of them, but they better fix up BatB!!

The article says:
Alongside this release, a newly restored and remastered Fantasia 2000 Platinum Edition, will be available
Alongside could mean packaged together or separate.

All I know is I'm going to get them all. The only ones after that that I still need are Lion King and Make Mine Music. I guess Lion King will be a 2011 release.

I'm also wondering what non-platinum editions they will release over the next two years. I hope they replace the remaining gold collection DVDs starting with The Black Cauldron.

I'm mostly excited about Pinocchio. I'll get the others too, but Pinocchio is the only one I don't already have.

Pinocchio is the only Platinum I'm waiting on. I have both the Fantasia Anthology and SB's Special Edition, and I'm not crazy about those two films anyway. I don't really care about SW and B&tB either, as the first Platinums were good enough for me.

Anyway, out of the other films, the ones I'm waiting on are: Tarzan (I missed the Collector's Edition, though I got Atlantis and TENG), Hercules, TBC, Oliver & Co. and Hunchback of Notre Dame. I especially hope Hercules gets a great release. Pocahontas and Mulan have both been done well, so I have high hopes.

Oh, my God. Oh, my God. YES YES YES YES YES!

First off, Pinocchio has, obviously, already been pretty much confirmed as the next Platinum, after Sleeping Beauty. I can't wait for it!

I will buy Snow White again, even though I have no idea what they could possibly add to it.

Fantasia/Fantasia 2000/Destino...AHH!! I've been interested in Destino for a while, and I can't believe it will FINALLY be released! I'm also excited for Fantasia/2000, with just the sole fact that we will be having TWO Platinums instead of one in the spring! How do you guys think Destino will be released? Obviously, not as a Platinum Edition, but probably a two disc one. I mean, Disney MUST know that the only people who would be purchasing Destino would be Disney enthusiests, since I'm sure the general public market are not aware of it.

Beauty and the Beast...Hopefully they'll add a filmed version of the Broadway musical, or at least more featurettes/documentaries on it.

THIS HAS MADE MY YEAR! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR POSTING IT!!! I SERIOUSLY CANNOT CONTAIN MY EXCITEMENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D :) :o  :!:  :float: :ears: :thumb:   :pink: :pink: :jawdrop:

What do you bet Fantasia still won't have the centaur scenes in it?

God dang Disney and their censoring everything... I'll probably buy it anyway, but I don't support it. Plus a Blu-Ray release will only mean brighter and less authentic-looking colors.

I just realized something. Remember when someone on here posted that Disney likes to release their Princess movies in the fall? Check it out. Snow White, fall 2009. Beauty and the Beast, fall 2010.

I have to say, I'm a little disappointed. I would have rather seen Fantasia come before Snow White's second release. Oh well, glad to know what the schedule will be. That means only Spring Platinum Edition releases will be really exciting for me, since I don't yet own Pinocchio or Fantasia.

I'm pretty excited for all of these releases. I only own Snow White out of these. I will probably "upgrade" to the Blu-ray for that title.

I don't know if anyone noticed, but while it
explicitely mentions DVD when talking about the Pinocchio
platinum edition, it fails to do so when mentioning the other titles.

I guess they are hoping that thanks to the upcoming Sleeping Beauty release in bluray they will be able to phase DVDs out by this time next year for Disney classics releases....

I'm seriously thinking of buying Blu-ray releases even though I don't have a Blu-ray player yet.

It's wonderful to have that schedule confirmed. I'm looking forward to each one as I don't have any of them yet. Hopefully, The Lion King (which I also don't have yet) will be released in 2011.

i'm still quite annoyed by this. disney is wanting people to adopt blu-ray faster. so what do they do? they try to make news by doing nothing special at all, just releasing a calendar of when what will be released. come on disney. im sorry but you have the resources to be able to put out more than 2 amazingly well done dvd's a year. If they really wanted to make a splash in blu-ray sales and adoption they need to release 4 a year. One the first Tuesday of each new season or something. It's rather ridiculous that they even consider Fantasia as a Platinum. Sure it is amazing animation but no one remembers it other than absolute Disney fanatics. I don't know anyone who would rather have Fantasia than Beauty and the Beast. Actually my friends and I had a rather large debate about this all and came to the conclusion that it is rather stupid for them to do it this way. Many kids will like I've said before grow up the first 7 or 8 years of their lives without these movies. I was fortunate enough to have them all then. I can't imagine not.
