"Hannah Montana": The Complete First Season

I'm really excited. Not my fav Disney Channel Original Series, but hopefully it will lead the way into more DCOS's getting Complete Season treatment.

I'm thinking they are releasing it in November, to give time for the other seasons to be released coinciding with the movie's (May '09) theatrical, and eventual DVD release.

I have been telling everyone for the longest time that releasing S1 of Hannah would be a good idea. After everything of hers, its bound to be a HUGE money maker. Plus, now is the best time. This time next year, she'll already be a thing of the past.

Thoughts?
Comments?
Concerns?

P.S. I want more Lizzy. And freakin' Even Stevens! :)
We need season sets of all DCOSs and all DCOMs on DVD! And Better Cover Art!

It's about time Disney does more season sets, but it's not encouraging that it's only Hannah Montana. Doesn't do anything to prove that they are doing more than milking their cash cow. They should release this alongside Season 2 of Lizzie or something. It's like with the DCOMs, they have totally forgotten about their earlier hits, like Zenon.

I remember when Halloweentown came out on DVD in September of '05, I really thought the Zenon trilogy would be released. Alas, nothing happened. :(

Anyway, I agree. It really just seems like they're milking their cash-cow. I'm not expecting any "Lizzie McGuire", "Even Stevens", or "That's so Raven" sets anytime soon... Unfortunately.

For the first time a Disney channel series gets a season DVD

Post by disneyboy20022 »

No It's not Phil of the Future or Lizzie Mcguire....or even that super spy show that was on Disney Channel in the 90s with an actor (can't remember the name of the show I know the actor was black but other than that my mind draws a blank..)

WHERE's MY GARGOYLES DUCKTALES GUMMI BEARS ETC BOX SETS????!!!

I'd Even settle for The Little Mermaid animated series...

How is it milking the cash cow? It is completely normal for seasons to to released like this! The four compilation DVDs sold right now were the shamelessly advantageous marketing ploy. Not this.

Choosing their most popular and currently "in" series for a season set is a very logical move. I don't know why you are so negative towards disney for making a good (though kind of obvious) move. Plus, releasing two series on DVD at once just means that one series is going to get over shadowed and subsequently lose promotion. Parent's aren't going to want to buy BOTH Lizzie Mcguire AND Hannah Montana for their whiny little children

Bwaa Haa Haa. I may have taken a little UD-break over the past year, but I couldn't pass up news like this. For me, this is the biggest DVD news of the year. Even though, by its self, its nothing special. What it represents, and what it could mean, is momentous.

See, that is how I would like to feel. But I cant help doubting Disney. Yes, Hannah Season 1 will sell amazingly, but Im too afraid they will 1) see it as an oppurtunity for more Hannah, instead of revisiting the past, or 2) revisit the past, but abandon the DVD sets before they complete (Countless Disney Afternoon/Lizzie McGuire)

I would really like Disney to release Phil of the Future, Kim Possible, and The Suite Life of Zack and Cody on season sets.

So, I went over to Netflix to add this to my queue and after I select that option...look what came up on the search.

Hannah Montana: Season 2
(2007) TV-G
Disney's favorite teen pop star is back for another season, as middle school student Miley Cyrus (Miley Cyrus) continues to juggle teen life with the demands and pressures of leading a secret existence as musical sensation Hannah Montana. This season, Oliver handcuffs Lilly and Miley to each other when they can't seem to get along. Meanwhile, Miley and Jake become a couple, and the Jonas Brothers make a special guest appearance.

Grain of salt and all that...

I think you are talking about "The Famous Jet Jackson" (which ironically enough, features a similar concept like Hannah Montana (famous teen juggles between being a normal kid and a superstar)).

And yes, the ONLY reason Disney is doing a whole DVD set out of Hannah Montana is because she is incredibly popular right now.

This would have been less obvious had they announced it alongside "That's so Raven season 1".

In a way, this is insulting to many Disney Channel shows and its fans. if I am not mistaken, "That's so Raven" was really hot at the time of its premiere. It turned Raven from an obscure child actor into a bonafide teen idol.

Where is HER season set, Disney?

What about Lizzie McGuire, the precursor to their new tween empire? Is Disney still mad the Hilary Duff thing and pretends she never existed?

Does this mean that the rest of their shows (like Suite Life, Cory in the House, Wizards, Phil etc.) are only suited to get compilation DVDs because they are not as popular as Hannah and Miley?

This is creating a HUGE double standard within Disney, and its no wonder many of its fans are annoyed. Even the fans of the other shows get annoyed at this.

I have a feeling the bonuses from the Volume DVDs won't be included (unless they're integrated into that "Hannah Highlights").

There are annoyed fans? :?

People who are angry at Disney for finally releasing a complete season set sure are hard to please.

Actually, you've got that all bass ackwards. First, anyone should be able to tell just by reading the other posts here how they are milking a cash cow, but to further explain: Disney has a HORRIBLE track record when it comes to releasing DVDs of their TV shows. In fact, they've released very few and have been known to discontinue the lines if they don't seem to be selling well. In fact, unless I'm forgetting something, they have yet to prove that they ARE willing to be loyal enough to their fans to complete a series release on DVD. Of course, Lizzie McGuire and Gargoyles are the best examples of this, but we're all rather nervous about the futures of the Disney Afternoon sets, and for good reason. To say that it is "completely normal for seasons to be released like this" is forgetting one very important point: it is NOT normal for Disney. They've never done it for any of their other Disney Channel shows before (not even Lizzie really, as that one set they gave us came pretty late in the game), and they have yet to do it. The only thing that has been proven normal for Disney lately is that they will go as far as they can to milk their two inexplicably successful cash cows, "Hannah Montana" and "High School Musical". Now, I'm not at all against this release, but it is still milking a cash cow, and not releasing any other shows, especially older shows (the wildly popular, and more justifiably popular, Kim Possible could have been a great choice), only serves to prove that point.

As for releasing two titles at once, no, it is a good tactic that is frequently used. These aren't movies in theaters; one doesn't overshadow the other, it draws attention to it. You release two titles at once so that one might call attention to the other, which sometimes is a less popular title. That's why Freakazoid was released along with Tiny Toons and why Disney has always released their Disney Afternoon sets in pairs. Believe it or not, it's a popular and effective marketing tactic. It's just like when the weekly adds have a DVD sale, they push a bunch of related titles together. They don't overshadow each other, and people in the mood to spend money because of one item are often willing to pick up two rather than just not bother to make a trip to the store for only one title. 2 is more to get excited about than one. But we don't even see a set for Raven or Zack and Cody, let alone Disney's much better/more DVD worthy shows of the past.
