The Disney Channel Original Movie (DCOM) Thread

Post by blackcauldron85 »

I thought about making this thread a while ago, but never did. This way, instead of having a bunch of smaller threads about DCOMs, we can discuss them all here (movies like the HSM films, though, deserve their own threads, because they're so huge).

Here's the plot for the upcoming Princess Protection Program starring Selena Gomez & Demi Lovato:

http://www.oceanup.com/oceanup/2008/07/ ... .html#more

"When Princess Rosalina [Demi] is threatened by an evil dictator bent on taking control of her country, she is whisked away and placed into the Princess Protection Program, a secret agency that watches over imperiled princesses around the world. Mason, an agent with the program, hides..

..Princess Rosalina in his own home where, with the help of his daughter Carter [Selena], she adopts the cover of an ordinary teen named Rosie. An insecure tomboy, Carter works at a local bait shop after school and dreams of going to the school dance with her crush, Donny, the school hunk.

Rosie quickly becomes popular at school which Carter must learn to accept but the two also form a close bond as Carter helps Rosie transform into a normal teenager and Rosie shows Carter how to find the princess within herself."

I'm excited for this movie!

And here's the plot & cast info for Dadnapped:

http://www.oceanup.com/oceanup/2008/07/ ... nt-an.html

"New Disney Channel Original Movie 'Dadnapped' [To be released October 10, 2008] tells the story of Melissa Hamilton [Emily Osment] who desperately tries to gain more attention from her always preoccupied father, best-selling author Neal Hamilton [George Newbern]. Melissa lives in the shadow of Tripp Zoome, the adventurous and clever hero from her father's popular spy novels..

During a long overdue father-daughter vacation, an unexpected detour leads to her father's kidnapping, first by overzealous fans and then again by two brothers with ulterior motives.

Melissa suddenly finds herself living in her own adventurous Tripp Zoome plot and is forced to find the courage and know-how to find her missing dad.

Emily Osment as Melissa Hamilton
George Newbern as Neal Hamilton
David Henrie as Wheeze
Moises Arias as Andre
Jennifer Stone as Debbie
Kirsten Storms as Meagan
Jason Earles as Merv"

I'm excited for this one, too, but I'm more excited for PPP, because I really like Selena & Demi.

These both sound pretty good, I'll most likely watch them =]
But the thing that makes Woody special, is he'll never give up on you... ever. He'll be there for you, no matter what.

I have another one to add to your list, Ames.

Hatching Pete

"Hatching Pete" finds shy high school student Pete (Jason Dolley) struggling to be noticed, especially by his crush. When his best friend Poole (Mitchell Musso) needs a break as the school mascot due to an allergic reaction to the chicken suit he wears, he convinces Pete to stand in for him at a couple of the basketball games. Once Pete dons the chicken suit, his shyness fades and a whole new outgoing character filled with personality appears that not only captivates the school, but the whole town! While Poole enjoys all of the benefits of Pete's dynamic performances, including a cheerleader girlfriend, quiet, unassuming Pete must decide if he wants the world to know who's really behind all of the mascot's antics.

I was having the darndest time finding this thread! I knew that I had made a thread for Princess Protection Program, but even the UD search couldn't find this thread for me! I had to use Google!

JimHillMedia has an article about Princess Protection Program and about who will take over the 'teen queen' title from Miley Cyrus:

http://jimhillmedia.com/blogs/jim_hill/ ... en-be.aspx

Here's the part about the movie:

(If you don't want to know the plot of the movie, then don't read the 2nd and 3rd paragraphs!)

So who’s Mickey going to pick to be Miley’s successor? Actually, the Mouse seems to be trying a two-heads-are-better-than-one approach. Given that – this June – Selena and Demi will be co-starring in a Disney Channel Original Movie, “Princess Protection Program.”

Gomez plays Carter Mason, a typical teenager whose life is turned upside down when her father, Major Mason of the Princess Protection Program (i.e. a fictitious organization that – would you believe it? – actually rescues princesses) brings Princess Rosalinda (played by Ms. Lovato) home to their house in Louisiana. The only way to save Rosalinda’s country (More importantly, her mother. Who stayed behind) is for this pampered princess to go undercover as average American teenager Rosie Gonzales.

Carter’s dad places her in charge of making sure that Rosalinda … er … Rosie fits in. Which gets kind of difficult when both girls are nominated for Homecoming Queen at her high school.

Mouse House managers feel that “Princess Protection Program” (Which – FYI – is the 76th Disney Channel Original Movie produced to date) has the makings of a break-out hit. Which is why this new TV movie will be supported by a full load of merchandise.

The links he provided were Amazon links for 4 Princess Protection Program books.

Interesting........the only commercials I have seen are for Dadnapped and Hatching Pete. No mention of Princess Protection Program.
Disney Channel died when they stopped airing movies with Haley mills (Parent Trap and Pollyanna) and fun adventure movies like Swiss Family Robinson. R.I.P. the REAL Disney Channel. Date of Death: When the shows became teenie bopperish.

have any of you noticed that the picture quality in DCOMs has improved dramatically? The difference was obvious between the movies and their sequels, the High School Musicals and The Cheetah Girls movies for example. But they kept going back to its cheaper form on the newer movies. But now, from what can be seen in Hatching Pete and Dadnapped I'm guessing they're changing things in Disney Channel. Or is it because these movies have sequel potential? Oh well, I hope Disney is putting more effort in their TV films.

I didn't know that Kirsten was in Dadnapped- I'm glad that she's still a Disney girl!!! And I'd be happy with the Zenon films being put on DVD. But I'm not opposed to a 4th movie, either!

Any idea as to why Disney's most popular DCOMS aren't you yet ? The 3 Zenon movies. I have no idea why 3 of Disney's most popular tv movies aren't out on dvd. They put out the Halloweentown movies and, with the Zenon movies, were some of the channel's most popular movies.
Think about this. Once bread becomes toast, you can't make it back into bread.

As popular as they were before, Zenon has pretty much died out. Halloweentown is still pretty popular around Halloween time.

Similar to what bruno already posted, but has a little more info:

tommy2.net:

The date is set! On June 26th, Disney Channel will be premiering their next Original Movie, Princess Protection Program starring Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez. In addition to her duet with Gomez, One and the Same, Lovato’s song Two Worlds Collide from her debut Hollywood Records album is in the movie. This time around, you won’t have to wait four months for the DVD as the Royal B.F.F. Extended Edition will be available Tuesday, June 30th on Disney DVD and will feature an exclusive new music video of One and the Same performed by Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato, a behind-the-scenes look at the film with the teen stars, and a free B.F.F necklace set.

I'm excited for Princess Protection Program. I am NOT excited for "Hatching Pete". It looks like a dumb movie and the constant playing of the music video has gotten on my nerves.

I wish when they advertise the PPP they wouldn't say "Coming Soon" but rather "Coming in June!" because that's more truthful.

This Friday at 6pm Central, Radio Disney will be hosting the Planet Premiere of "One And The Same" by Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez.

That's a song from Princess Protection Program. I'm so excited!
