Pleo At Sea World

Post by Siren »

I took my Pleo (robotic dinosaur) to Sea World with me this past Sunday in an experiment to see how some higher mammals and even some lower animals might think of her. And many of the reactions amazed me. Especially the dolphins.

Thanks Fidget! The video is becoming a small YT phenonenom! :D Nearly 3000 views so far, the makes of Pleo (Ugobe) placed my video on the www.pleoworld.com front page and on their official blog. I think its so cool everyone else is so amazed by the dolphins' reactions as I am.

Pleo Goes to SeaWorld (sounds like a kiddie movie...)

Oh wow that really is amazing! Pleo's amazing in herself, but all those dolphins like ganged up on her...in a good way. It looked like they were fighting to see her! It's so great you got such success, and I can't believe the makers of Pleo found your video and gave it a place on the site! They didn't pay you...?

Thanks Duster! :) And yes, they were pushing and shoving a lot at first. 8 dolphins at the most were there. Though eventually, only 3 really kept interacting with it. And near the end, one really stuck around. I picked up Pleo and she/he kept pushing its beak on the glass and I felt bad, so that was when the video restarted and you see Pleo at eye level. Only when it left did I finally leave. The hand to the left at that part was mine. "Petting" the glass in some unconscious thank you to the dolphin.

And no, they don't pay me, lol. I often get asked if I work for them in their marketing department. But bringing Pleo out with me a lot is something I simply enjoy doing. Often I spend half my day explaining what Pleo is and does and where to get one, so I can certainly see where people get the idea that I work for the company. I am a walking free billboard for them. I am not ashamed. And I don't do this to get paid. I do it because I enjoy it. I wanted to take Pleo to Sea World to see what some higher mammals might think of it. Cats and dogs are fun with it sometimes. But something far more exotic is what I wanted to try. My eyes welled up with tears as I watched the interaction. Something about dolphins and whales always effects me that way. I find spending time near them to be both magical and spiritual. I can't watch a killer whale show without holding back some tears.

Pleo Goes to Seaworld

Aw, so you took Pleo away and the dolphin that stuck by wanted it back? But I guess you had to take Pleo away to let the dolphin know it had to end. You just stayed to see the dolphin get over Pleo? Haha.

That's cool how you feel when you're with higher mammals. Hey, they are really smart and the most like us and some people even think they could be smarter but let's not go thinking Planet of the Dolphins. Now I know why your videos are often about being with animals in nature, especially marine life, it really effects you.

Yeah, I would have loved to spend all day with Pleo and the dolphins, but eventually, Pleo needs a recharge,

And yes, I do feel dolphins are nearly if not as intelligent as we are. Just because they don't build skyscrapers and computers doesn't mean they are less than us. They are more like humans than we care to imagine.
