Sad News: Whoopi Goldberg is Off the Air

Post by musicradio77 »

This is to Aaron Wallace, big Whoopi fan.

I heard the sad news that "Wake Up With Whoopi" was canceled. :( I was listening to Allan Sniffen's "Board Reflections" this week about her final radio comments. She was not doing good on radio. Now, she's with "The View". This was from April 14th, since I haven't posted in a while. Here it is from All Access:

Whoopi Exits Radio

WHOOPI GOLDBERG ended her syndicated morning show career with some mis-fired fireworks. Sources tell ALL ACCESS that her final show FRIDAY morning (4/11) basically consisted of a three-hour rant about how much she hated doing radio. It was almost enough to make some station execs pull the plug early.

Nevertheless, expect to see the stations that carried her show announce morning replacements quickly.

It has already started at CLEAR CHANNEL Rhythmic AC WKSL (KISS)/RALEIGH, where PD/afternoons DAVE KENT segues to wakeups, effective TODAY. The move creates a choice opening in afternoons.

End of a radio era. :(

I am not sure you could call it an era. More like a cup of coffee.

Well, she's not dead and I never got her radio show so I guess it does not really matter to me.

I just wish she whould do a new tv show or a couple new flicks. :(

I found this audio is Whoopi's emotional farewell message to her morning show. I'm going to play it to Aaron Wallace (AwallaceUNC), a big fan of Whoopi. Enjoy! :(

Thanks for posting that link, mr77. I hadn't heard Whoopi's radio sign-off, which was surprisingly candid regarding the state of radio today. Unfortunately, I was rarely able to catch the show (thanks to mr77 I got to hear more than I might have otherwise) but I am sad to see it go.
