Who Did You Want Giselle to End Up With?
Yeah, this is probably a weird topic to start, but I love hearing people's opinions on stuff like this. (No, I don't expect it to become an age-old question, for example from 'The Phantom of the Opera': Who did you want Christine to end up with: Erik (the Phantom) or Raoul?)
*WARNING: THIS DOES CONTAIN SPOILERS, SO IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE MOVIE, YOU PROBABLY SHOULDN'T READ THIS!*
Anyway, before everybody starts virtually hurling things at me, I will mention that I do like the film's ending of Giselle being up with Robert, but lately I've kinda wished that Giselle stayed with Edward and here's why: I love AU endings. I mean, with Giselle landing in NYC and staying with Robert, you should've known that she was going to end up falling in love with him instead of Edward, there have been movies like that before and 'Enchanted' just one of those films.
Well, after a while, I get tired of those types of films and wish for something else. I mean, personally, I'd like to see a film where the female protagonist is in a relationship with guy #1, gets seperated from him and though she meets guy #2 and he helps her, she doesn't fall in love with him and stays with guy #1.
Do you like the film's ending? Or would you change who Giselle ended up with? I'd love to hear your opinions!

No way. This movie was like a fantasy I used to have come to life (though, with me, it was all about Ariel coming to the real world). It was like this movie was about me, IF my fantasy came true that is. I also didn't like the Nancy character, and Edward, though he is likeable, is so easily satisfied with any woman that he might as well have Nancy and let Robert get true love with Giselle.
At first I wanted her to return to Andalasia, because she looked soooo in love with Edward. It was a huge twist (at least for me) that she decided to stay in the real world.

Giselle never had time to fall in love with Edward- she just kind of fell into his lap (literally!)! So, she actually got to know Robert, and she fell in love with him for who he is; I'm not saying that Giselle didn't love Edward, but it was a different kind of love. I think that Edward and Nancy seem pretty similar (they think that they're both great, I guess), so I think that it was a good choice to have them together and have Giselle & Robert together.

Yeah, but Nancy and Edward never had time to fall in love with each other either. But you're right that Giselle got to know Robert, but Nancy did know him longer...5 years.blackcauldron85 wrote:Giselle never had time to fall in love with Edward- she just kind of fell into his lap (literally!)! The ending just seemed typical to me.

OK, quick backstory. When I first saw the trailer, I thought it presented the movie as "Giselle is sent to Andalasia...Edward follows her...Robert somehow finds himself in the middle of having to reunite the two." And I thusly assumed that Giselle and Edward would end up together. I looked at a movie coloring book a week or so before it came out, not thinking "Gee, it may have spoilers!" and found out that she would end up with Robert. My initial reaction was "...wait, what?" Based on what I'd heard of the movie, I didn't know if that could be pulled off without being cheesy. I thought the idea that the 'princess' realizes that her 'prince charming' isn't her prince charming was interesting, but couldn't decide if I'd rather have that cliche or the cliche of watching Giselle and/or Robert undergo a painfully unbelievable change of heart in order for them to 'work.'
Honestly, going into the movie, I didn't expect to care very much about who she ended up with...I expected a cute movie full of stuff to make my inner Disney nerd very happy, but not something that would move me on any deeper level. That, plus, since I hadn't SEEN the movie yet, I didn't want to have a strong opinion about the 'pairings.' How could I say who was meant for whom when I hadn't really 'met' ANY of the characters yet? So, I put aside coloring book memories and just tried to take the movie for what it was. I didn't want to judge the outcome of the story until I knew what that story was and how it played out.
The movie was better than I had dared hope. It was indeed cute and full of stuff that made my inner Disney nerd happy, but it had such strong heart...it really moved me emotionally in ways I hadn't expected. I ended up seeing it 11 times in theatres (never seen a movie more than 4 before), and every single time, I cried at the ball. Sometimes at Bella Notte, too, and when Giselle says goodbye to Robert and Morgan. I absolutely support that she and Robert ended up together in the end, because I thought the movie did an outstanding job showing the influences their characters had on each other. Both of them were MUCH more complex characters than I had expected, and they had a wonderful sense of chemistry together. I did love Edward, too, and I liked that there was nothing WRONG with him, necessarily, just wrong for Giselle. He was certainly likable and good-hearted, but he didn't offer anything "more" for her. I was glad they didn't play him as a detestable character like Prince Charming in the Shrek films to make Robert seem like the more desirable man by default. I really enjoyed both characters, who both came off as good-hearted men, but I felt that the way the movie played out, even if they were both good men, Robert was definitely the good man FOR GISELLE. And I liked that before she could really 'choose' either of them, she needed to understand more about who SHE was. Her story was so much more than just "the prince or the attorney?" I liked the sense that Giselle has to figure out her own mind before she can make sense of her feelings for either of the men in her life.
I just totally 'bought' the Robert/Giselle relationship, and I find it one of the most fascinating that I've ever seen in a film.

I think the movie could be a metaphor for a girl becoming a woman.
She fell in lust with Edward. She was so desperate for a man, the moment she landed in one's lap, literally, she figured, he was the one. Like many people feel with their first love. They don't know how relationships go, how they feel, how and when to convey their feelings properly and are often over zealous. Edward and Giselle were both this way. Both were SO desperate to find love, they fell in lust with the first one they saw.
Jump to New York and Giselle meets Robert. Still very much a girl. But the more time she spends with him, the more she actually gets to know him, she finds out what love really is. Its not "we'll be married in the morning!", its more powerful than that. Its pure happiness, even anger. She got angry at Robert. He in a way, was helping her grow into a woman.
If she stayed with Edward, she may have eventually actually fallen in love with him, but it wouldn't have been the same kind of love. I don't think she would have grown as much as she did with Robert.

When I first saw the trailer, I also thought that Robert was bringing Edward and Giselle back together. And technically, he did try that for a little while, but you could tell he didn't want to.

So yes, the trailer makes you think Edward and Giselle stay together.

Ah, I remember that now too. I guess that's Disney's way of trying to not "give away the ending"Siren wrote: "One ordinary man will have to get them back home.."

Definitly Robert.
Giselle never loved Edward, she thought he was the Prince from her dreams but it was really Robert who was the Prince from her dreams,so she didn't really loved Edward.
If Giselle ended up with Edward then it whould have encouraged that "She's a Disney Princess,of course she"ll choose the Prince and the money and prefer then guy she dosn't know then the guy she really knows" so it was a bad idea if she ended up with Edward, and about the dreams again-It's like if Aurora ended up with some other guy insted of Phillip because she thought he was the Prince from her dreams who's really Phillip.
And that wasn't really a spoiler-They said in a few interviews that Edward won't be with Giselle and then they showed Nancy, also Mattle made a Robert doll but not a Edward doll so I already she won't end up with Edward.

Yup, they tell you a false ending. You figure they go back home. I read a spoiler here before I saw the movie that she ends up staying with Robert. I remember being surprised. And when I watched the movie, I saw how it fit all together and was pleased with the outcome.Poody wrote:Ah, I remember that now too. Well.... I'd say Robert was the one with all the cash!Ariel'sprince wrote: If Giselle ended up with Edward then it whould have encouraged that "She's a Disney Princess,of course she"ll choose the Prince and the money
Reminds me.... how did Edward pay for that food in the scene where they were at some type of cafeteria!?!? I guess he slipped them a couple gold coins or something....

Not to mention the size of that Upper West Side apartment!Poody wrote: Well.... I'd say Robert was the one with all the cash!He was giving it all to Giselle and paying for all her crap while she was there!
Not to mention those credit card charges....

...this is why I always laugh when he tells Sam to get Giselle home and "Make sure it's cheap, because I'm gonna have to pay for it." Understandably, he probably doesn't want to spend a fortune on charity for a woman he thinks is insane, but I can't help but giggle, "Right, because there's no money in law, right, Robert?"
That's been my assumption.Reminds me.... how did Edward pay for that food in the scene where they were at some type of cafeteria!?!? I guess he slipped them a couple gold coins or something....![]()

And the Edward gold-coin theory sounds pretty logical. 'Cause I was wondering about that too when I was watching my DVD the other day.
