Madonna, Hard Candy on April 29th, 2008!

Post by MadonnasManOne »

I know that we have an Artist Discussion thread dedicated to Madonna. However, I felt we should have a thread dedicated to her new album, Hard Candy, due out on April 29th!

From the official press release:

'HARD CANDY' DELICIOUS NEW MADONNA ALBUM SCHEDULED TO BE RELEASED ON WARNER BROS. RECORDS APRIL 29th

28 February 2008, Burbank, California--Madonna's 11th studio album for Warner Bros. Records "HARD CANDY" is scheduled to have a global release on April 28th and a US release on April 29th, it was confirmed by her label. "HARD CANDY" (the follow up to Madonna's "CONFESSIONS ON A DANCE FLOOR" which debuted at No. 1 in 30 countries and sold over 8 million copies), has been described as a brilliant up-tempo collection of 12 songs in which Madonna remains ensconced in club mode but this time adds an urban hip hop beat in collaboration with musical partners Timbaland, Justin Timberlake, Pharrell Williams of The Neptunes and Nate "Danja" Hills. The debut single, the pulsating "4 Minutes" will be released at the end of March.

"The title is a juxtaposition of tough and sweetness...kind of like I'm gonna kick your ass but it's going to make you feel good. And of course, I love candy" laughed the material girl.

Madonna, a multi-Grammy-award-winning singer, songwriter, producer, cultural icon, world renowned stage performer, video visionary, children's book author, director and documentary film maker has sold 200 million albums in the course of her unprecedented two decade plus career and is slated to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on March 10th.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The US version of the album has 12 tracks:

Candy Shop
4 Minutes
Give It 2 Me
Heartbeat
Miles Away
She's Not Me
Incredible
Beat Goes On
Dance 2night
Spanish Lesson
Devil Wouldn't Recognize You
Voices
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The first single, "4 Minutes" featuring Justin Timberlake, has been released to radio. If you haven't heard it on your local radio station, call them up and request it! It's a great track!

Here is a video of Ellen, dancing to "4 Minutes"

MM1, why didn't Madonna perform on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame show. It was blasted all over the place that she was going to do "Holiday/Material Girl" medley and she didn't even perform, and even, in my eyes, gave a very lackluster acceptance speech. And who was that 'half-naked' guy that did those two Madonna songs so horribly? Just hoped that you could shed some light on why she didn't perform. I was so looking forward to that part of the show.

Oooh, ouch! The cover looks horrible. Madonna looks creepy. Her hair looks bad. The pink is ugly.

Watched half the Ellen clip. The song is awful. It sounds like reject circus music from Christina Aguilera's last album. And second rate No Doubt horns.

I hope she can drum-up something more impressive than this. Or this is simply going to be perhaps the most disappointing creative moment in her career since I'm Breathless (yeah "Vogue" was classic, but instead "Hanky Panky" was representative of the rest of the album, not very good- plus she came out with "Santa Baby" shortly after).

I don't know why she didn't perform. Most of the nominated acts didn't perform. Others performed to honor them. As far as her acceptance speech, I think she just seemed a little nervous, at first.

Madonna chose Iggy Pop and The Stooges to perform for her, as an act of protest. The Stooges have been nominated six times for induction, and have yet to be inducted.

Other than that, I can't tell you why she didn't perform. I would love for her to have performed, but, she didn't.

Whatever, Lazario. To each their own. I LOVE the cover. I think Madonna looks great. The color is obviously chosen to represent candy.

The first single may not be your cup of tea, but, it does appear to be getting major airplay on the radio stations. I have heard a couple of other songs from the album, and "4 Minutes" isn't representative of the whole album, from what I've heard.

At any rate, as I said, to each their own. Not everyone is going to like everything Madonna does, all the time. Where you may disappointed, others are very excited. No need to go so negative, or dramatic.

Well then isn't it a wonder how a famous antacid is the very same color. I definitely get the "candy" vibe. But she looks like a cheap whore and I see nothing hard about it. Unless by hard, she intended to give everyone looking at the cover the same sickening feeling that I got.

MadonnasManOne wrote:The first single may not be your cup of tea
Very true. But only because it's a weak track. Hopefully that's just a video / radio remix and the album version is better.

MadonnasManOne wrote:it does appear to be getting major airplay on the radio stations.
Really? You know what song also got a lot of airplay? That godawful Kanye West track, "Stronger." I think everyone knows airplay has nothing to do with quality.

Oh I know. For instance, your praise. It seems to be unconditional. Which is sweet. But I don't think it's as helpful as you may be under the impression it is. I want to see her do good material. Nothing less. "4 Minutes" is beneath her. And that cover seems to emphasize the "whore" image many people accuse her of being. Desperate to appeal to today's standards of thin in tight and trashy clothes = sexy. She's truly more glamorous than that.

I don't really like the cover too much, though Madonna still looks amazing as always.

I'm excited for this come out. I've just recently started becoming a Madonna fan, like my Mom and sister have always liked Madonna but I'm really starting to get into her music too. The first Madonna CD I bought so far is The Immaculate Collection and I LOVE every song on that CD. I'll definitely be picking up Hard Candy when it hits the stores.

Oh yeah, forgot to ask..There's this one song I've heared before..I saw the Music video but all I remember is it's in black and white and it goes "You can't hurt me now" whats the name of it? Madonna has like so many songs to look at lol.

Unlike what Lazario suggests, I'm not giving unconditonal praise. I actually happen to like the cover, and the song "4 Minutes".

At any rate, Jeremy88, I'm happy to hear that you are starting to get into Madonna's music. You'll find that she has great variety and diverse catalog of music.

The song you are asking about, with the black and white video, is "Oh Father". It's on the Like A Prayer album. You should pick up that album. It's a classic! "Oh Father" is one of my all-time favorite songs from Madonna! Her live performance of the song, during The Blonde Ambition Tour, was simply amazing!

Oh okay, thank you MadonnasManOne! That song is so good! Well like all of her other music lol.

I've been watching some of her past concert performances on youtube and wow she is a great entertainer! I'm going to try and find the "Oh father" Blonde Ambition version on youtube too. In any case, I'm definitely checking out Madonna's large catalog of music heh. Thanks Again!!

I just watched the "Ellen" clip- I really liked what I heard! I'm just a casual Madonna fan, so I'm not sure if she has other songs in the "urban pop" genre, but it seems to work for her. Of course, the producer and Justin Timberlake contribute to the sound, but I'm curious to hear clips of the rest of the album.

One of the neat things about Madonna, and it's almost a cliche now, is that she can reinvent herself. I don't have "Confessions on a Dance Floor", but, from the first single, I assumed that it was disco-influenced. It's great that she can make another dance record that is even different from the last- good for her!

I'll dance with you! I've listened to it several times, today, and I never grow tired of it!

"If you want it
You already got it
If you thought it
It better be what you want
If you feel it
It must be real just
Say the word and imma give you what you want"

I'm dancing!

We only got four minutes to save the world
No hesitating
Grab a boy
Go grab a girl
We only got 4 minutes
Huh?
4 minutes"

The single, "4 Minutes" (featuring Justin Timberlake), is now available for purchase at iTunes. Also, the album, Hard Candy, is available to pre-order in two editions. The Regular Edition contains a bonus exclusive track, "Ring My Bell". The Deluxe Edition will also likely contain "Ring My Bell", and I've heard two other bonus songs. At any rate, if you pre-order either vesion of the album, the single "4 Minutes" will download immediately, and you will be billed for the rest of the album when it becomes available!

I'm glad you like it, Rowlf_The_Dog! By the way, I love your new signature! I can't wait for Desperate Housewives to return, along with Brothers and Sisters, Grey's Anatomy, and Samantha Who?!

By the way, I've updated the link to purchase the album from Amazon.com, so that UltimateDisney.com will earn credit. I've also added a link to purchase the DRM free MP3 of "4 Minutes" through Amazon.com, in order to support UltimateDisney.com, as well!

I'm so excited for this album. I'll add more information, soon. Particularly about the different versions on iTunes. It's late, however, so, I'm off to bed.
