Disney Educational Productions (previously unreleased DVDs)
In the newest Walt Disney Treasures thread, Gurgi30 posted this link:
http://dep.disney.go.com/educational/index
It's the Disney Educatonal Products website. They have some movies and shorts that aren't available on DVDs you can buy in retail outlets:
(There are many, many more titles on the website than I am listing here, but I'm listing the titles that I think are the coolest):
DVDs:
New True-Life Adventures
http://dep.disney.go.com/educational/st ... =77A33PK00
(VHS: http://dep.disney.go.com/educational/st ... =68Q06VL00)
Recapturing the wonder of Disney's renowned nature series of the late 1940's and '50s "Disney's New True Life Adventures Series" takes the quality and innovation of the original films to even greater heights with the amazing technologies available today. Series includes "Alaska: Dances of the Caribou," "Elephant Journey," "Sea of Sharks," and "The Everglades: Home of the Living Dinosaurs."
Are "Freeway Phobia Parts 1 & 2" not available on the "Complete Goofy" Treasure set? I just looked at the UD review and didn't see them mentioned...because they're on this DVD:

Sixty bucks for the two Freeway featurettes. Ouch.
A 28 minute version of Incredible Journey on VHS for 39.00 ouch. One of my favorite Disney movies and I might pay that for the full version that I could record on to DVD.
Thanks for all the research but that is expensive. I know there is a premium for educational and library because their is an assumption that many people will get enjoyment out of the same tape but those prices are hard to stomach.

I didn't even realize that "The Incredible Journey" was only 28 minutes long...never mind about that one, then- I'm sure the whole movie can be bought for a few dollars on Amazon...
I find it interesting that certain films are avalable through this website, on DVD nonetheless, that Disney hasn't even sold to the regular public! If they're already on DVD, they should just put them on DVD already. Granted, we want bonus features, and these may not be restored...I just wonder if some of these films will ever be available to the general public, at not-so-rediculous prices.
I'm tempted, though, to save money for a few of these. I really liked "The Ernest Greene Story" when I was younger, and I like "The Color of Friendship". Of course, if Disney released these to the general public at a much cheaper price, I might kick myself...and then "Justin Morgan Had a Horse", "A Light in the Forest", and "The Loretta Claiborne Story" would be great to have on DVD, too...

Okay if about 50 of us go together and somebody records it on to DVD and ships it we may make it cost effective. I want them I'm no fools.

Interestingly enough, The Walt Disney Story WAS released to DVD in 2001 at WDW as a bonus feature on their resort souvenir DVD. The print is of the original film used at the WDW attraction of the same name (no costumed Mickey intro) and in non-anamorphic widescreen. The only downside was the aspect ratio is 2:1 instead of 2.67:1. But it was still cool.

It was only during the 100 Years of Magic celebration. Also the video quality wasn't that great either, I'm really surprised this hasn't been released on a WDT set already. Maybe if they did a WDW set.blackcauldron85 wrote:

Re: Disney Educational Productions (previously unreleased DV
Definately not a problem. Like I said on the other thread, even for a teacher these are very expensive. Usually we don't have a big enough supplies budget to purchase something like this so unless the library does it we need to buy it out of our own pockets. I'm hoping that like Donald in Mathmagic Land that some more of these eventually come to the mass consumer at much cheaper prices. I'd especially like the animated shorts, they'd make a great Treasures set.blackcauldron85 wrote:In the newest Walt Disney Treasures thread, Gurgi30 posted this link:

I watched a handful of the disney educational shorts that I have on DVD:
Donald and the Wheel
Winnie the Pooh and the Seasons
Scrooge McDuck and Money
The Story of Menstruation
VD: Attack Plan
Donald in Mathemagic Land
etc.
They could totally make a Treasures set out of these programs. A lot of them were made after Walt's death, but they really are a rather itneresting part of the Disney history.

There was a short film that was shown in EPCOT called, "The Making of Me" starring Martin Short. I'm not sure if it was ever shown in classrooms or available to the public though......Super Aurora wrote:Didn't disney do a educational show on sexual intercourse or sexual productions?
Is that in there?

While I don't have a definitive answer to this question, I believe that, like several of their educational products, Donald and the Wheel was probably updated. I know that the Donald short about fire safety was updated to reflect modern fire safety techniques, so perhaps DatW was similarly "updated."disneyfella wrote:Donald and the Wheel was censored? Disney embraces education
By Wendy Wilson
Disney Educational Productions, a studio division started by Walt Disney himself more than 60 years ago, is reinvigorating its curriculum with nine new DVDs designed to be used by both classroom teachers and home schoolers.
The DVDs, available this fall, cover a variety of topics, including social studies, current events, science and language arts.
To develop engaging science content for its DVD series, the company created a joint venture with Walt Disney Imagineering, the group that designs the Disney theme park rides. Children learn about trajectory, levers, pulleys and gravity in The Science of Imagineering titles by seeing how those devices and forces work to fun effect on the theme park rides.
Among other titles included are Environmental Awareness with WALL-E, the feature film with bonus content that examines the effects of gravity on humans as well as a look at robots today, and Schoolhouse Rock: Election Edition, a compilation of the classic animated shorts pertaining to issues such as the Electoral College and women's right to vote.
A new Web site (www.disneyeducation.com), launched in conjunction with the releases.
DEP programming is designed to support U.S. National Curriculum Standards.
The next slate of titles will be available in the spring. All releases can be purchased online for $29.95 to $59.95 each.
