SWORD IN THE STONE OOP 2-18-08
HI GUYS DISNEY IS PUTTING THE SWORD IN THE STONE BACK IN THE VAULT ON 2-18-08. I GOT THE OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT IN THE MAIL FROM DISNEY CONSUMER RELATIONS ON THE DISNEY DVD AVAILABLITY LIST. WE ALL KNOW ABOUT ALL 3 ALADDINS AND CINDERELLAS WENT INTO THE VAULT ON 1-31-08, BUT THIS ONE IS ON 2-18-08 WHICH WAS NOT MADE PUBLIC!!! ITS GOING AWAY QUIETLY!!! I BELIEVE THEY ARE RETOUCHING THE FILM AND RELEASEING IT NEXT YEAR AS A SPECIAL EDITION, JUST LIKE ROBIN HOOD AND THE ARISTOCATS. JUST GIVING EVERYONE A HEADS UP ON THIS ONE!!

The official "animated classics" link on the Disney DVD website (which merges the Pixar films with the established "canon" of WDFA numbered classics) seems to confirm this, as it is stating "not currently available" for Sword In The Stone.

It looks like Sword will be the next DAC to get the "out of print Gold Collection/new 2nd edition with slipcover" treatment.

Assuming that a new release will come from this, I'd say that it would come out about a year from now or a little bit longer. My guess would be close to Easter/Valentines Day. If not then I would definately say next summer.
On another field though, I feel that Disney will want to release another classic soon after Sleeping Beauty's PE release. They'll really need to puch the whole animated classics on Blu-ray thing, and unless the company has another release planned for around late fall/early winter then The Sword in the Stone might be it.
Another note should be that Finding Nemo is also being expected to be released on Blu-ray after Sleeping Beauty, so I'm going to stick to my first prediction.

They also still have to realease Pinocchio and Fantasia on PE along with Alice at some point (if Alice is a PE, as far as I know this still hasn't been clearly stated by the Disney company yet.)
Also, sadly, The Sword in the Stone in no way meets the requirements to be a platinum. We'd have much better luck seeing Pocahontas or Lilo & Stitch as a PE before The Sword in the Stone. By the way, I highly doubt Disney will add more Platinums, and I'm still in doubt about Alice even.

I suspect we The Sword in the Stone will take this year's random November release (ala Robin Hood and Return to Neverland). I doubt it will be released on blu-ray, and I suspect it will be called the "Higitus Figitus" edition or some sort of crap like that.
Either way, unless it's 2-disc (with real bonus features, not just stupid games and read alongs) I wont double dip on this title.

I have the Gold Collection DVD and I must say it is one of the better "Gold" releases. Unless the image is much better (it doesn't have the best restoration) and it is filled with new bonus features, I probably won't double-dip. I mean it is a great film, one of my new found favorites, but I don't think that Disney will do anything special with it, even if it has it's 45th birthday (I mean, just look at FatH's 25th Anniversary DVD, it's hardly an upgrade).
