Wizards of Waverly Place gets DVD release Summer 2008

Post by disneyboy20022 »

We've gotten several e-mails from readers like Lisa Conte (thank you very much!), who picked up this week's release of <i>Hannah Montana - Vol 04: One In A Million</i>. It came with an insert which, we're told, says that a DVD is coming soon for Disney Channel's new series <i>Wizards of Waverly Place</i>. We checked in with the studio, and confirmed that a release is indeed being planned, tentatively targeted for the <b>Summer 2008</b> timeframe. That's still subject to change, of course, and it would still be months before an official announcement was made with an exact date and any details. But stay tuned and we'll magically fill you in just as soon as more info becomes available!

I kinda feel like everyone is ignoring Wizards of Waverly Place because of the popularity of Hannah Montana. Not that Wizards is a great show or anything. It's typical Disney Channel stuff (though I recommend the episode where they get the dragon dog, because the guy who sells it to them is hilarious. I LOVE his line about the Circle of Life), but I find Selena Gomez to be much more watchable than anyone on Hannah Montana. In general, the acting on Wizards seems to be better. Not saying it's all great, it's just that Hannah, especially in the first episodes, has some awful acting/writing.

That's because Selena has some expirence. She did Barney, a Lizzie McGuire spin-off entitled Stevie Sanchez that was never picked up, and some guest spots on Disney shows.

I always wondered why Disney hired Miley Cyrus. She's not a very good actress at all, but her singing isn't as bad. From what I've heard, Miley Cyrus has only had one other role than Hannah Montana. The little girl in Big Fish.

Truthfully, though, I haven't watched Wizards of Waverly Place yet. Disney Channel just got too annoying to watch with all the Hannah Montana and HSM hype.

I actually like Wizards of Waverly Place. I think I'll buy this DVD. But Disney is getting annyoing with Hannah Montana. It's just constantly her from noon to midnight. I usually sleep with the TV on Disney Channel, but now I'm putting in my Friends season DVDs, because I can't get to sleep with Miley Cyrus SCREAMING from the TV. :x

I know. Every commercial break there is something about one or the other, if not both, and Hannah Montana is actually on far too often.

haha! that is so funny, i do that too. i love friends.

anyways, i do like wizards of waverly place. while it's only a little less annoying than anything else on disney channel, it is much better acted, and the jokes are more original (where as hannah montanna and the suite life tend to recycle jokes from other, more superior sitcoms).

another show i think has been quite overlooked is cory in the house. i think that that show is even better acted, and even less annoying than wizards of waverly place.

Is this video (made for 101 Dalmatians Platinum Edition, apparently) already old news? I had never heard of it before, but I don't go over these boards as thoroughly as most.

Personally, I'm not a fan of these pop-remakes of songs from classic Disney animated features being tacked onto every DVD release, but I'm glad to see they are trying to get Selena Gomez noticed. As I said, it seems that people can't see her due to the glare off Hannah Montana, but Selena's way more impressive to me and she's prettier than any of the current Disney Channel girls too.

WoWP is actually pretty cute, as far as post-KP and ADJL shows go.

I love the scene with the 'make-'em-ups' introduction. I don't remember how it all goes, but it's something like...

Dad: One of the most important skills for a young wizard is the art of spell improvisation...Or, 'make-'em-ups'! Max! What do you urgently need, right now?

Max: BAGPIPES!

(Dad has a 'WTF' look on his face)

Max: I'm sorry, I wasn't listening.

Dad: OK, Alex! You haven't eaten in days. What do you do?

Alex: I walk over to our sandwich shop and have Mom make me a sandwich.

Dad: Mom's not there.

Alex: Well, where is she?

Dad: It's not importrant. She...She left the country.

Justin: She left the country? Why? Is she okay?

Dad: She's fine.

Alex: Well, if she's fine, I don't see why she can't make me a sandwich...

Dad: (groan) Here, I've already made one up for you. Max, read this.

Max: (takes paper and reads) 'Satisfy my empty belly, make me a peanut butter and jelly'.

(The spell turns him into a sandwich. Justin picks it up and sniffs it, then opens it, then almost takes a bite. The dad cries out.)

Alex: Let me try [a make-'em-up]. 'Although I like such tasty snacks, I'd rather have my brother Max'.

(Max is back to normal, but upside down. Justin jumps back)

Justin: Hello!

Max: Thanks for not eatin' me.

Dad: Good work, Alex.

Alex: Thanks, that wasn't even true.
Man has a dream
And that's the start
He follows his dream
With mind and heart
And when it becomes a reality
It's a dream come true
For you and me!

Isn't that the same name for the first volume DVD for That's So Raven?

Hey now. Raven was Supernaturally <i>Stylish</i>. The Wizards are Supernaturally <i>Stylin'</i>. There's a huge difference. Disney is really staying creative about these episode compilation DVDs!

Great, now they even recycle the dumb names they use for DVD editions. Can you imagine a "Big Top Edition" for Lady and The Tramp?
