The Wheel of Time (Book Series)

Post by Chernabog_Rocks »

Are there any other Wheel of Time fans here? I thought I'd made a thread about this before but after two searches nothing.

Anyways, I've only read to the end of The Shadow Rising. But it's been a few months since I finished it so I'm re-reading to refresh my memory, now I'm around chapter 20 on The Great Hunt. Also if there are fans here, how were you introduced to the series? My grandma had sent me the Fires of Heaven a long time ago thinking I might like it but I didn't have the patience back then for such a large book. However out of boredom I decided after having this book I should see what it's about, halfway through the Prologue I was hooked and decided to start from book 1. I still don't own all the books, only about 4 or 5 left to pick up including the New Spring prequel novellla.

So....I'll stop talking and see if this thread gets any replies instead of just babbling on and on as usual ;)

I read the first 10 books in 15 days*, and I had some STRAAAANGE DREAMS!

*well, I took some breaks in between, so it was closer to 21 days total, but 15 days of actual reading...:
February 2003:
27th - The Eye of the World
28th - The Great Hunt
March 2003:
03rd - The Dragon Reborn
04th - The Dragon Reborn (cont.,) The Shadow Rising
05th - The Shadow Rising (cont.)
06th - The Fires of Heaven
07th - The Fires of Heaven (cont.,) Lord of Chaos
08th - Lord of Chaos (cont.)
09th - Lord of Chaos (cont.)
10th - A Crown of Swords
11th - A Crown of Swords (cont.)
12th - The Path of Daggers
17th - Winter's Heart
18th - Crossroads of Twilight
19th - Crossroads of Twilight (cont.)

I need to get back and read the last books, or start over from the beginning.

I may wait until 2009 when the final book should be published. I was sad to hear that Robert Jordan passed away in September 2007, but it looks like he left enough notes that the final book can end the way he wanted it to.

Starting over from the beginning is ok, but it feels like Eye of The World drags on a bit, as well as Great Hunt sometimes. But that might just be me, since I prefer reading about the Aes Sedai mostly. Sometimes I find that I'll only skim read a lot of paragraphs simply because Robert Jordan spends so much time describing what people are wearing/look like etc. For example, I actually skipped an entire page that was just descriptions of Elayne and one little paragraph about Gawyns description which ramble on to the next page. It's nice to get an idea of what someone looks like, but he seems to do it so often and in such length sometimes  Oh well, the books are still really good, I wonder what a movie would be like it would probably run over 3 hours like Lord of the Rings did.....
