Should I go for the mother load!?!

Post by Prince Phillip »

Well I have the chance to purchase the Ultimate Collector's Box which is comprised of The Ultimate Toy Box, The Fantasia Anthology, Tarzan CE, A Bug's Life CE, Dinosaur CE, and The Emporer's New Groove CE....

The only problem is that it's $240 + $15 S/H...

Is it worth it to pay this much, especially when the highlight of the collection, for me, is Tarzan CE... :?

Should I just wait for the reissue of Tarzan, and the eventual Platinum release of Fantasia(s) or go for this very pricey motherload? Keep in mind I'm only 17, and not made of money, but I do have enough for this if I combine my next few paychecks...

It's this or a portable DVD player...

What should i do!?!?!?!

Well, this is one set that you should definitely get in this guy's opinion. You have The Ultimate Toy Box, of which a legitimate copy will be going for over $100 not too long. That won't resurface until 2007 at the earliest, supposedly, and even then, who knows what will be missing. Tarzan CE goes for a bunch of money, too. And The Fantasia Anthology is certainly a wonderful set you don't want to miss out on.

$255 total is a hell of a lot of money, though. And are you certain you really like Emperor's New Groove, A Bug's Life, and Dinosaur? Even if you do, you should be able to get those three for less by themselves, maybe.

Tough call. I started out all for it...but it's a lot of money.

:jawdrop: If You Want To Spend That Much Money For All Of Them do it. But I myself would look around Pawn Shops and Discount Stores, because sometimes they have some of these titles that are new. For A Whole Lot Cheaper.

That's a pretty decent deal considering what the secondary is (will be) for some of those disks. Tough call though, I suppose it all depends on how it will affect you in the long run, monitarily, and mentally (as far as enjoyment). I love making a purchase that I'm proud of, but I hate regret, so I always stay away if I have even an ounce of what I feel might be regret...

Hope you make the decision that's right for you! :)

By the way, if you don't mind me asking, where did you find such a great deal? And why have I never heard of this box set?

Yeah, those are all the points that were poking around my head, I'm def not a big fan of the last 3 mentioned, but who knows, maybe on a second viewing, each might appeal to me more...

Well I just sent the person selling it, an e-mail saying I would go for it, it is going to take my last 2.5 paycheck to pay for it, my seasonal job is now over :( , but hopefully a lot of joy will come out of it, I really really want a portable dvd player, but those will probably be around in a couple months, whereas this won't....

still, even though I am kinda getting it now, I still want to hear some other people's views on the matter, and I won't be offended if you tell me I'm an idiot

ehhh.... all this money is giving me a headache, I better go lie down, and start thinking of where I can possibly get a job now....

I think you'll be glad you made the decision.

I made a similar one when I got the Ultimate Disney Treasure chest, which has all 7 Treasures DVDs in it. It cost $125 bucks, plus tax, so I ended up going broke over it. The highlight for me was Davy Crockett, since I already had the Disneyland one. I ended up loving about half of the set, and thinking the other half wasn't quite as lovable. But all of them are great to have in my collection.

I think you'll feel the same way about the movies that aren't the highlights of your box - they're still good to have in your collection.

Before You Spend all of that money. You need to think about what you are doing and check around to see if you can get them for a better deal.

The boxset was apparently available a few years back, probably in places like Suncoast and such, but I only ever saw it online... There are a couple auctions for it on ebay, 2 I believe. One has a starting price of $300 and a Buy It Now price of $600, the other auction has a Buy It Now price of $259.95, so I guess I'm getting a good deal at $240 + S/H...

Thanks :) I guess I'll let you know in a couple of weeks, I have lot's of doubts and regrets going through my head right now... I guess it's not too late to send a second e-mail saying I changed my mind about the thing, I just don't know what to do I mean it's like I could wait till I'm like 25, for some of these releases to be rereleased, like Fantasia, and not have to spend so much, but then I'm waiting till I'm 25, plus the boxset just looks so attractive....

Well I guess I have until tomarrow mourning to back out if I'm going to....

Here is a link to one of the auctions so you can get an idea of what I'm talking about: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 3374165941

I went through a similair thing when I got the Ultimate Treasure Chest, myself, except now I'm spending twice as much!

Thanks though Jack, for the encouraging words. :)

Oh and Disney Guru, I have definately shopped around and think I'm getting a "good deal" on the dvd's, it's just that they are expensive now, cause they are OOP, but in a few years, when they are rereleased, they might not be so expensive, though with the way the company is going, maybe it's better to just play it safe and get them now, in their proper states, before they're tinkered with, or anything like that....

I'm feeling a little better now, but i still really want that portable dvd player.... :( Oh well....

I believe you should definitely go for it. If you bought all those DVD's at their standard retail prices separately, the price you're paying for the boxed set is about how much you'd pay so you're not being cheated. Plus, all of the DVD's in that set minus Bug's Life are getting harder and harder to find and then they're found, they're at hefty prices. I definitely recommend going for it-you won't regret it (though Dinosaur as a movie is rather bland so if you don't like that one, you can always ebay it off).

That's too much money if I were you I'll wait if they take them out with Special Editon or Platium Edition in the future anyways Disney has to take them out at least 5 year from now. :o :(

To much money but if you want to spend it on that go ahead. :D

This is a whole lot of money. I think you should ask yourself this: When the various titles (tarzan, fantasia, whatever) are re-release in another form (platinum or some other edition) would you still purchase it??? I think if the answer is yes, then you shouldn't buy this because you'll probably wind up double-dipping for lots of these titles. Hope this helps, unless you already made your decision.

The price is kinda high, but the movies are just great. I own all of them and my ultimate favorite collectors editions are the FANTASIA ANTHOLOGY and TARZAN. This last one might not have been the best movie at the box office, but the extras and the bonus cd is absolutely amazing. I love that movie. And about Fantasia, what can I say? it´s Disney at its best. And the Legacy cd is also outstanding.

Well PP, since you've already made the decision to spend the $$ I'll just say that it should be well worth the dough. I have each and every one of those and love them all...even the Dinosaur CE. So much great stuff to go though on those disks you'll spend quite a bit of time on them, especially the UTB and FA. Those two alone make that set oh-so worth it.

Hmm... "Tarzan" was a big hit when it was released to theaters, the most succesful Disney movie since "Pocahontas", actualy.

As for the DVD pack, it may be expensive, but it is shure worth it... Even if you don't like some of the movies very much, the countless hours of bonus features make up for it.

Well, thanks guys, all your reassurrances have made me feel a lot better on the subject...

Jasmine-rules, I will not be double dipping on these in the future, unless a substantialy better version comes out, which I'm beggining to think is highly unlikely the way disney is going, but thanks for bringing that up...

I might see if I can trade a couple...

Well, I'm going to 7 11 right now to buy the money order

Oh, and Disney Guru, you have a lot of DVD's! :)
