Rare Holiday Disney film on DVD!!!!

Post by disneyfella »

It must have slipped under the radar because it wasn't distributed by Buena Vista, but the 1995 Disney Channel miniseries "The Old Curiosity Shop" (based on Charles Dickens' novel) starring Peter Ustinov and James Fox is available on DVD!!!!!

This was directed by Kevin Connor (the same people who did this 4 hour miniseries did the fantastic 'Great Expectations' adaption for Disney too!).

This barebones DVD (with adequate picture and sound) was distributed by Platinum (the same company who released 'Under Wraps' and 'Nightjohn'.....two other Disney Channel films.

Check out the very economically priced disc:

Why oh why, though, has no one released the 'Great Expectations' miniseries on DVD?

Happy Holidays Everyone!

I think I saw this. Was it half animated at any parts?

I haven't watched the whole thing (I'm waiting to put a fire in the fireplace and tea on the stove this winter :D ), but the few scenes I've watched and chapter selection I've perused don't show any animation. I tried a YouTube search and couldn't find anything....was there a particular part you thought was animated, or it was mixed (like So Dear to my Heart)?

I already have it! Great adaptation, though 'the marchioness" is missing.
No animation, just life action.

Charles Dickens is my favourite author. :P

If Charles Dicken's is your favorite author, you would love this 'Great Expectations' miniseries that Disney made:

it is actually a pretty faithful adaptation. It is a complete shame that it is not on DVD :(

btw, which is your favorite Charles Dickens film adaptation? (You need not be Disney biased) ;)

I have the David Lean movie version and a TV-series from 1999. This one I don't know. I suppose they don't have in in PAL format?

I very much like the regsitration of the Royal Shakespeare Company's stage performance of " Nicholas Nickleby". Next comes David Leans' "Oliver Twist" and some recent BBC adaptations of 'David Copperfield' (starring Daniel - "Harry Potter"- Radcliffe) and "Martin Chuzzlewit" with Tom Wilkinson.
A yes, I forgot "Scrooge" with Alister Simms (B/W)
