HSM widescreen grabs!

Post by 2099net »

High School Musical has been shown on BBC3 in the UK over the past week, and I have some widescreen grabs here. Sorry for the pretty crappy quality - I will work on getting some better quality grabs up if I can.

I'm having problems because its a low-ish bitrate MPEG2 encoding of an already low bitrate MPEG2 digital TV tansmission plus it insists on interlacing everything, and I seem to have recorded it letterbox. D'oh.

Anyhow here they are. Enjoy.

Now this is not from checking, but I suspect the 4:3 version released on the Disney Channel and DVDs is composed of both centre cropped and unmatted footage, depending on the shot.

I'm sure some HSM fans an analyse these pictures better than me. And once again, I apologize for the quality. Hopefully a new set can be posted soon.

Thanks for posting the comparison shots, Netty- it's interesting to see what's cut out of the fullscreen version (Corbin Bleu in the "We're All In This Together" screencap is cut in half. Tisk, tisk, Disney! :x :P)

I wonder if they'll ever release widescreen DVDs of these films over here.

Thanks for these pics. I have the movie on DVD-R which was taped right off of the Disney Channel last year. Luckly It had the Disney Channel watermark on it.

*Note to self: don't buy the High School Musical DVDs until Disney decides to release them in widescreen*

Why do you prefer the widescreen version?

I like the fullscreen because you can see the characters closer.

They cut off things and people in the fullscreen version. It doesn't look like they cut off completely a lot of things or people in the fullscreen version, but they cut off enough to be bothersome. I don't notice these things when watching the movie, so, even if they do release a widescreen version, I'll keep the one I have, but, personally, the fact that Corbin Bleu is cut off in the "We're All In This Together" shot irks me. Sorry, but I'm kind of obsessed...

Widescreen is always better, because Widescreen is the way the movie was meant to be seen in, except on some films that were made in Full Screen only. Plus who wants to watch a movie where there's half of something, instead of getting the whole picture.

The Blu-ray of HSM2 will be in widescreen, I don't know about the regular DVD. I wouldn't be surprised of a widescreen release of the first film came out a few months later since poeple will be asking if the original was filmed like the sequel, plus it would give Disney more money.

Blu-Ray!, that's not fair, Blu-Ray is expensive not all of us can afford that, so they should release HSM 2 in widescreen on the regular DVD, instead of Blu-Ray only.

Why dosen't Disney release there TV movies in widescreen on DVD?

Why did the UK get to have Widescreen before us? Is the Widescreen version coming out any time soon?

HSM2 has not come out on DVD here yet (it will be December 11). There is a good chance that will see it in widescreen here too. It's HSM1 we have to worry about.

I hope it's in Widescreen for regular DVD, and not just Blu-Ray only.

Is there a press release for HSM 2?[/quote]

It shows the differences between widescreen and fullscreen, since that has been discussed on this thread! :)
