why are films like Cars,Robinsons, and Ratatouille have so few bonus features? are they being saved for another edition or Blu-ray? what happened to the Galleries and other features?

Disney doesn't seem to be putting a whole lot of effort into their releases these days unless it's a Platinum title. And IMO, some of their more recent 1-discs (Meet the Robinsons, for example) are just as worthy of a 2-disc treatment as any of the Platinum titles. Especially MtR, as it's their first truly good movie in years (no offence, if they're reading this).
That being said, though, most companies seem to be trying a whole lot less on DVDs these days. Only the odd release now and then of niche or odd movies (the recent 3-disc Caligula, for one) get releases with good bonus features... and most Criterion Collection titles, of course.
Part of it's probably the fault of the supposed "next-gen" formats, though I don't see the logic in it. Most HD-DVD and Blu-Ray releases have sub-standard bonus features as well, though usually they have a marginal amount more than their DVD equivalent (Heroes S1, etc.). Also, a few more scattered bonus features here and there isn't going to cause anyone to suddenly decide "Oh god! I have to go out and spend thousands on a new TV and player so I can watching an extra deleted scene that's probably downloadable if I cared that much". Give me a break. People will upgrade when it's practical to do so, and at the moment it's not unless you're obscenely wealthy, have a stake in the electronics industry, or work in the movie/television business.
Overall, it seems to be like the early days of DVD all over again. It's caused me to buy a whole lot less movies and TV shows in the last 5 or 6 months, that's for sure.
Meet the Robinsons is perhaps the 3rd or 4th DVD I've bought in as many months, and I was only willing to overlook the terrible treatment it received because I enjoyed it so much in theatres, and I haven't felt that way about a non-Pixar Disney flick since Fantasia, and Lion King before that. Also I had a gift card for Future Shop, so I figured what they heck.

Well, there are some great releases coming. Blade Runner 5-disc edition comes to mind.
And don't forget, most companies don't even know how to authorize a good hd-dvd (or Blu-Ray, that's even harder). They're new on the subject as well, it took a few years in the beginning of dvd to optimize the format. The same here.
And of course they're not gonna put a lot of new features on the HDs, they want to see which of the formats wins. That's also why I'm not buying a blu-ray or hd-dvd player.

See my poll Has Disney all but given up on DVD? for more insights from people.
Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database
