Halloween '07
Well,Halloween is almost here,so why not have a thread for it.
If it's ok with the mods and Luke, maybe we could post pictures of our costumes and if that can't work we can describe them.
Anyone else SUPER excited? I love candy! HAHA And just the seasonal decorations and pretty much the whole atmosphere.

I will probably be using the Fred Flintstone costume yet again, as I don't think my werewolf costume will be finished in time (too short of funds).

Some past Halloween costumes can be found there too in my Deviant Art gallery, including my Popeye, Ash, and Genie costumes. I did the Genie twice. The second time it was vacation Genie.
By the way, I've been embedding Halloween specials I find on google video onto my comic character's My Space page every week. Here's the page. I'll be adding a couple of new ones in a few minutes.

Anyway, as for plans for this year, I've been playing it kinda low-key the past couple of years because money has been tight. Plus, it falls on a Wednesday this year, and there's not much in the way of local activities. Not like when I was a kid. There IS a Haunted House downtown, but the line goes around the block and I've waited in it before. You are literally standing in line for HOURS to go through such a short experience that it really isn't worth the wait. A couple years back, they had a neat Haunted bus tour. It needed work, but it was still a decent activity. However, last year and this year I haven't been able to get any info on it, so I'm thinking they stopped doing it, though I had heard they were going to continue (and up the price).
Anyways, my point is that this year, once again, I'll probably just pass out candy in my Fred Flintstone costume, scarf the goody table I like to set out, and watch Halloween specials all evening/night till dawn. I always make sure to watch a few in particular, like "The Great Pumpkin," "The Worst Witch," and "Hocus Pocus," among others. And, last year they did an all night, live Ghost Hunters thing on sci-fi which was nice to catch inbetween DVDs, and I think they're doing it again this year.

I've already been to Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party, so once again it feels like Halloween is over. The most I can do now is decorate the house, watch Halloween related specials and give out candy. I'm just not into Halloween as much as I used too. (still love the concept, and definately I'm have ing a big party at my house next year).

Well, I come from a country that is currently an independent state and a member of the European Union. We are a former British colony, but we've never celebrated Halloween. It's just never been part of our culture. Recently, however, some people have been trying to introduce it, albeit very mildly. My school, for example, is going to throw a Halloween party soon. Naturally, that's probably as far as things get here, seeing as it's something we're not used to (you won't see anyone dressed in the street or hear of any activities similar to slave2moonlight's town
)
In Malta, we may not dress up at Halloween, but we do during Carnival, in February. How many other countries are there that celebrate carnival? I know it must be present in Italy (at least in Venice, it's so famous) and France, as their mardi gras. I have a feeling though, that not every country celebrates it at the same time. When is the carnival of Rio di Janiero, for example?
Last thing: I don't think Italians celebrate Halloween either, though I may
be wrong. Anyone know?

When I was a kid, there was quite a bit to do around here. Besides trick or treating, there were costume contests at lots of different places. The malls usually had big ones. There were also indoor Halloween carnivals. They were mainly put on by schools I guess, and it was mostly stuff like cake walks and wheel games and things like that, but they were fun to go to, even for adults, because they had lots of people in costumes and it was just a cool Halloween activity. The one big one I remember anyway. I'm sure they weren't as great as I remember, but they were still fun. And, there were Haunted House attractions to visit here and there, and though they weren't all great, there were enough of them that you could get into them. The local malls always made a pretty big deal out of Halloween, even if there was no big town event, and trick or treating was big too.
For some reason, it all just died out. It's blamed a lot on the scare of razor blades and needles, and poison, in the candy and stuff, which really came out when I was a kid I think. Of course, that just explains why there aren't as many trick or treaters, and I think it's now more about people being scared their kids will get kidnapped or something rather than tainted candy. But supposedly this was supposed to increase the alternative Halloween activities, and yet that seems to have died out in my town. Nowadays, all there seems to be is the one Haunted House event in town that is not worth the line and hitting clubs. I guess the main thing to do around here for an adult on Halloween is to dress up and go to a club, but you have to find one where they are throwing a Halloween bash, and they usually have ridiculous cover charges. There IS an indoor Halloween carnival put on by the town (if they'll do it this year I don't know), but I think it's really squarely aimed at kids and in this really hard to find location.
I do have to say though, ever since I was a little kid, I've kind of been torn on going out for Halloween activities or staying in, anyway. Well, when I was little, it was going out to an activity vs. trick or treating, and when I would skip the trick or treating, that was usually disappointing (I'm big on tradition and always have been), and now it's about whether I should go out or stay in and pass out candy and watch my favorite Halloween specials and stuff, which I also enjoy. I guess the lack of activities makes it much easier to decide. But, if they'd have a big town carnival around here like I've heard of in some towns, the outdoor type with the haunted hayrides and all that good stuff, I'd definitely be there.
Always wanted to check out Salem, Mass. on Halloween, and I hope I get to someday. That place is supposed to be the best on Halloween.

All we have in my part of town is trick-or-treating and a Halloween parade on Halloween night. Of course, there is tons of things to do in the malls, but they're 1/2 hour away.
Theres also a lot of Haunted Hayrides and Haunted Houses around here, such as one called "Dracula's Forest" which I really wanna check out!

Well, this Halloween me and some of my friends are putting on an outdoor theater preformance of Sweeny Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. It should be really fun, because we're doing at my freind's (who's playing Sweeney) house, and all of his neighbors come over to watch, and many others plan to come and see us attempt to tackle this musical, we'll se how it goes,
So, I guess that means I'll be dressing up as Judge Turpin this halloween

Well, I don't dress up anymore for Halloween. Don't ask me what that means. I sort of find it in poor taste- I'm a 25 year old single gay guy in a rundown apartment (best us small town non-Republicans can afford - sure, don't blame the system, blame the people
) with 2 roommates who are never here. I almost always go to other people's houses to dole out candy to trick or treaters. Last year, my parents got 1 'party' of t&t-ers. This year, I don't have a clue how many of my friends are even going to buy candy. Most of us are up to our scalps in bills. So, they might get like 3-6 candy-bars at the Wal-Mart check out and give 3 each to the 2 people who actually show up.
What happened to Halloween? People really don't celebrate it anymore.

Now they soud like interesting costume ideas!!!! Did you make them yourself?potterrules93 wrote:i am 14 going on 15 and still going out trick or treating=] this year i am going out as a outhouse. last year i was a person in the bathtub and the year before that, i was a bag a jellybeans=]

To me, Halloween is huge!!! I love it as much as christmas, I don't know why, I just do. I always dress up as a witch and I used to have party every year until I moved away. Now, with the shifts my parents work it's not easy to have a party so I just take my brothers trick-or-treating and then come home to watch Halloween specials on TV (I always HAVE to watch the Halloweentown movies and Hocus Pocus on Disney channel - yeah, they aren't scary, but it wouldn't be halloween without them!)

I'm going to be Sylar from "Heroes" this year. Last year I was Dr. Claw from the animated series "Inspector Gadget" and the year before that I was a Venetian Blind (I wore a T-Shirt that said "Venice", sunglasses, and carried a cane).

You're supposed to scare people, potterrules93, not crack them up.
Great costumes though. Seriously ... those would make good carnival costumes.

My 7 year-old daughter announced to my wife and I today that she does NOT want to go trick-or-treating this year. Shocked, I explained to her that there was no last-minute mind-changing...she has no costume and cannot decide on Halloween eve at 6PM that she wants to all-of-a-sudden go out. She held her ground and insisted that she didn't want to do it this year.
I have a 7 year-old that swears she's already a teenager.
