new cover art

Post by disneyfella »

just thought i'd be the first to react to the new cover art from disney's return to oz,and those calloways

return to oz: who the hell is that chick on the cover? that is NOT fairuza balk. otherwise, not too bad

those calloways: simply beautiful. i cannot wait for this one to come out. this is one title that was always expensive as a VHS, and now i'll be able to have it on dvd for less than $20. february won't come soon enough ;)

Wow! It's great to finally see some evidence of the new Return to Oz DVD. I don't hate the cover, but I do agree that the girl on the front is not Balk. Kinda makes you appreciate how Anchor Bay sticks to poster art.

I can't wait to hear more news on this exciting release. :)

I agree. I like the cover in general, but the girl is most definitely not Fairuza. Also, why is the Tin Man in the sleigh with them? I know the movie poster art had the Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Cowardly Lion in it, but you should either have all three on there or none at all. Just having one of them is odd...

Here's hoping Return to Oz gets some supplements and an anamorphic transfer. If so, I'd definitely upgrade to this.

That's ALL we know. They're all $19.99 SRP (meaning $14.99 in stores...if they actually make it to stores), except for Midnight Madness, which is $14.99 SRP. Of course, they'll mostly probably be reduced to $14.99 in six months or so.

It'd be nice to know if these aren't going to be done right, which I'm doubting.

It appears as if every single one will be getting a fullscreen release - can anyone confirm or (HOPEFULLY) deny it? I'm not holding my breath, though. I doubt any of these will be presented in their correct aspect ratio...

I don't think so. My guess with the price of 19.99 they will be bare-bones. maybe they will make a mistake like they did with That Darn Cat and post it as fullscreen, but it actually be widescreen. I can only pray.

the type of cover art seems much like those titles we got a couple of years ago (i.e. cheetah, journey of natty gann, monkeys go home, king of the grizzlies, etc.). my guess is dolby surround, and fullscreen format....barebones. you think disney would learn though, we want WIDESCREEN. i wonder if that many people also called and were against widescreen? you'd think that since we call all the time to complain about the barebones fullscreen stuff that someone would've said, "gee i bet we should release those in widescreen after all if that's what the public wants". any thoughts?

You'd think Disney would realize that the fans of Return to Oz only wish to view it in its original aspect ratio. There's still hope. Hopefully we'll find out the specs soon enough.

I think if only one of them gets a widescreen release, it'd be Return to Oz, so your odds are better than the rest. At least they can't screw up the 3 TV movies. I'm thinking the '60s films will be 1.33:1. They'll lose a purchase on Midnight Madness that way too.

There's no doubt about it, these would sell better if they were widescreen, but Disney's lazy and likes to use fullscreen video masters.

remember: Eisner is in charge and he is looking for profit without extras.

Yeah, you're right. But I was thinking that since Return to Oz has a rather limited fan base, they'd understand that the only people who would consider buying the movie only want it in widescreen. We'll see.

I'm not really looking forward to these titles. They just don't sound that appealling. Maybe Return to OZ-I remember getting freaked out by it years ago.
Wasn't there an anime series based on the "Return" book? It wasn't as dark as this film, and was often broken up into half hour segments to be shown as a tv series.

BUT! BIG NEWS! THIS MAY BE THE CHRISTMAS! A DVD PLAYER! FINALLY!
Ok, i've been after my parents for one for like a year, but they won't budge and won't let me buy one because:
PARENTS: Think of how much it would cost to replace all those videos!
EVAN: But not all of them are on DVD! And some aren't getting the proper treatment (goes into rant about bad Rescuers treatment etc...)
PARENTS: Well, if you have so many complaints, it's not worth it!
EVAN: PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway, last weekend my mom told my seven year-old cousin what i was getting for christmas. Then, when i asked him what to bring when i baby-sit him after Christmas, he said:
"BRING YOUR NEW DVD's!" And he wouldn't know what they are unless mom told him. he doesn't even have a VCR!

Can't wait to get specs on the 'Return To Oz' re-release. If it's presented in it's o.a.r. I'm definitely grabbing it, but I'll stick with my original cover! I hope it's at least got one or two supplementals on the adaption of the series or making of, but that's highly doubtful...

Actually, I'll be happy if they just include the widescreen movie but a new transfer. While Anchor Bay's transfer was wonderful in almost every aspect, there were horrible pixellation issues (which I'm guessing came from having the pan-and-scan version on the same disc, but they've handled such scenarios before). I don't know how much Disney cares about the movie, though, so who knows what they'll do. We shall see....
