"High School Musical"; I don't get it at all
I don't understand why it's so freakin' popular. They seem to advertise it every which way you look on TV and on magazines, too. Why does everyone seem to view it as so popular? In my opinion, I think it's stupid. Why do they always hype it so much? I don't get it.

It's quite a rare occasion for Disney Channel to have a DCOM that is a hit and gets more than two stars in most tv ratings. I thought High School Musical had a very good story and a couple of the songs are quite addicting.Big Disney Fan wrote:I don't understand why it's so freakin' popular. I have yet to see HSM 2 but if it makes you feel any better, the hype is making me enjoy it less than I used to. I'm one of those people who really gets into something and then once that I find that everyone else is into it (especially younger kids), it's no longer cool anymore. It's already ruined Hot Topic and anime for me.

It's popular maybe because there's a nudy picture of one of the stars floating around on the internet? Here's the article on Yahoo:

I like how that article starts with "The wholesome image..." What about Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears?

I find it amusing that parents get so uptight about Vanessa Hudgens having a nude pic on the internet. Chances are their kids won't even see it
As for High School Musical, well it's just a fun movie with awesome songs and good-looking people. The plot and acting are good too. I think it's a great movie

What do you mean by that? Are you saying that they were so foolish enough to make an anime show about HSM?toonaspie wrote:It's already ruined Hot Topic and anime for me.

Don't you hate that? You love something and not many people do, so when you find someone who also loves it, it's like a cool little secret between the few of you. Then it suddenly becomes the "it" thing among younger people and all of a sudden, fifty people who've never been exposed to it before suddenly consider themselves true fans/experts of whatever it is, even if it's been around for years before them.

It has great songs and dancing, memorable characters, and good-looking actors. I think it being a musical definitely helps...I can't really explain why, but I think that the music is a huge part of HSM being successful. And I think that most kids & young adults can see themselves in the characters, so we can relate to them.

I kinda feel the same way about Nightmare Before Christmas. I've been a fan since the movie was originally in theaters (when I was like 5 or soEscapay wrote:toonaspie wrote:I'm one of those people who really gets into something and then once that I find that everyone else is into it (especially younger kids), it's no longer cool anymore. I can't stand it. I watched it when it was on Family Channel for the first time last year and afterwards I felt like I had died a little inside. I had to go watch a few GOOD movie musicals afterwards just to get rid of the horrible after taste HSM left in my mouth.
But then I again I have never liked anything live action from the Disney Channel in my life. It's all too kidish, bland, predictable and horribly acted for my taste.
Though I will admit Zac Efron was great in Hairspray. Now that was a musical!

Yeah, I've never really liked the Disney Channel live-action stuff. I'm more partial to things like classic Disney movies, especially animated ones.Widdi wrote:I can't stand it. And Hairspray was good, too. You know what other musicals were recently on Family Channel that are pretty good? "The Sound of Music" and "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang".

I know. I really can't get into the HSM frnachise, either. I'll admit that I did buy the soundtracks because the songs are catchy, but the movies are horrible. I felt like I was watching people in random song outburst strung together by pointless dialogue. I see it the way toonapsie sees it. Once people start getting into things and it is outrageously popular, it gets lame. Like Gwen Stefani's song "4 In The Morning". I got the CD in December and could not stop listening to that song, but now that it's on the radio so much, I CAN'T STAND IT! I guess maybe I got into the HSM franchise a little too late in the game. There was just too much hype I guess.
