The Girls Next Door Discussion

Post by jeremy88 »

So anyways, in case no one knew. I am a big fan of the E! Network reality t.v series The Girls Next Door.

For those who don't know what the heck The Girls Next Door is, allow me to explain. It's a t.v show about Hugh Hefner's(The founder of Playboy Magazine) three beautiful girlfriends Holly Madison, Bridget Marquardt and Kendra Wilkinson and their daily lives living at the infamous Playboy Mansion.

Holly Madison
<img src="http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c312/ ... /Holly.jpg" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket"></a>
Holly Madison is Hugh Hefner's main girlfriend. She's been with him for about six years now. She got involved with Hugh because she was a Hawaiian Tropics Model that would attend the Mansion Party's and she apparently got Hef's attention..and the rest is history. To me I believe she really is for Hef, her personality seems very genuine. Anyway She grew up in Alaska and is originally from Oregon, but Holly has had many trips to Southern California because her family visited Disneyland often. That's one of the reasons why she's my favorite, because like me, she's a Disney Fan. Every year for Halloween she dresses up like a Disney Princess, and WOW does she look amazing. Her favorite Disney Princess is Belle because she says she's smart, get's things done, and she's nice(and I agree with her!). Anyway she's also a lover of Animals and is for PETA and consider's herself the head mistress of the manisons animals, her other interest is the French language and history, Starwars and Ewoks and the glamour of Hollywood and classic films. Alright well I've said enough about Holly, mainly cause she's my favorite! It's too bad she only likes older men...DARN! I'm 8 years her junior :(

Bridget Marquardt
<img src="http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c312/ ... Bridge.jpg" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket"></a>
Bridget Marquardt is from Lodi California, originally before she was Hef's Girlfriend she always aspired to be a Playboy Playmate. Since she was a kid she'd flip through her fathers magazines and wanted to be just like the beautiful girls featured in the magazines. Bridget's interest include Horror Movies, Halloween and the Paranormal, Broadcast, Journalism and Party Planning. With a Masters Degree in Communications and currently working on a second Masters Degree in Broadcast Journalism, I'd say she's well educated. Anyways I think Bridget is pretty cool, her personality is sweet and she's kind of the epitome of a "girly-girl" but hey everyone's different personality wise. As for being with Hef, it's hard to say, she always says that the reason she's still a girlfriend is because before there were seven other girlfriends, and there no longer there because she was there to have fun not to see what she could get out of it. And she does seem devoted to Hef, but not as much as Holly.

Kendra Wilkinson
<img src="http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c312/ ... Kendra.jpg" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket"></a>
Kendra Wilkinson is a 22 year old San Diego native(ALRIGHT SD REPRESENT! hah just kidding though it's nice to have someone on t.v whose always boasting about how proud they are of the city I live in) Anyway she's a free spirited girl who doesn't care what anyone thinks of her. She's much a tomboy who loves to watch and play sports, so she's kind of the ideal girlfriend for Jocks an that kinda thing. She got involved with Hef because she attended one of the partys as a body painted model. I can't say that I believe Kendra is really there for Hef, I mean I do believe she cares for him a lot, but I don't think she could picture herself in a seriouse relationship with Hef and settling down with him like the way Holly does. Nonetheless she is fun to have around and has quite the personality.

The Latest Episode featured the Girls and Mr.Hefner attending the Renaissance Fair. Holly looks amazing as Aurora.
<img src="http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c312/ ... 8/hef3.jpg" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket"></a>

Here's a picture of the original Seven girlfriends(I'm guessing this was before Bridget became a girlfriend and way before Kendra arrived) To me they look like a clique college sorority girls, some of them are pretty hot though.
<img src="http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c312/ ... rty032.jpg" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket"></a>

So that's about it on the girls, I basically just summed up who they are in short mini biographies lol. Wheather you think they're nothing but gold digging Bimbo's and Sluts (which was my initial judgement on them when I first heard of the idea, since then my perception of them has definitely changed) or Genuine Woman living a modern day lifestyle of Polyamory. Either way there's plenty to talk about The Girls Next Door.

Agreed!

This show is nothing but purely embarrassing GARBAGE and makes me even sadder for TV viewers than Gilmore Girls.

I might aswell rant some more on what the show's intent is...

The Girls Next Door is just pure mindless entertainment, it's not supposed to represent what a womans lifestyle should be or what woman should do in life, because not all woman can do what they do *without working hard for it. The lifestyle they live is like a fantasy. So I suppose in terms of why people watch it, it's just an escape from reality to see what a luxerious lifestyle is like. I think the show appeals to men, because it's just eye candy, the girls are hot, and it involves the Playboy company and a lot of men look up to Hugh Hefner as an icon. So really the show isn't even reality t.v, maybe for the girls, but definitely not for the viewers.

Degrading an entire gender of people is entertainment?

Or... is it just ludicrous, offensive, and stupid??

Sorry J, but that show is sick, E! are gutless, spineless, money-whores for showing it, and the fact that someone would start a "discussion" topic for it, on U.D., no less... is more than that - it's scary!

How is it degrading a gender? Obviousley the people who enjoy it don't find it degrading there's actually more females that watch it and they don't feel degraded(if that's what gender you are referring too).

I don't understand how it's sick either?

It's just another t.v show thread, which there are many of, so I don't find it "scary" at all.

And last time I check aren't all t.v channels money-whores? The whole point of t.v is to showcase commercials.

Get to your nearest Priest. I think your soul is really in trouble. There's no hope for me. Go on and save yourself. While there's still time.

I guess it can't be explained to people like you - but this is beyond offensive. This is another huge contributer to the sabotaging of the health and well-being of millions of young girls growing up today. This show sends people the message that all beautiful girls with big boobs are all sluts who can be bought and sold, and are just Toys. It's an attack on the integrity of women. And I guess you don't understand because you don't have to interact with people like yourself, as a woman. But I see it all the time, everywhere I go. Men are getting a lot less respectful of women. And it's because of shows like this.

I totally agree. These are words to live by and should be read by every red-blooded young American male. Good job Laz!!

It's all about fairness, really. If a show came along and did this with Guys in it, every heterosexual man (and a fair share of gays, I imagine) would be bitching for miles. You'd hear a lot of "this is f***in' gay!" and you would feel the weight of their displeasure. They would want it off the air, and they'd get what they want. Women are never taught to be that vocal. They're always told to put up with crap like this. Not to mention the fact that men featured on a program like GND, in the position of the girls, wouldn't ever allow themselves to look as stupid as these girls do. These girls are hand-picked for identifying Money and Power as the key to their whole concept of self-esteem.

And as for female viewership... Girls watch The Hills and Laguna Beach. I don't exactly see most of TV offering up many women with any real ambition. All women on TV these days want are a quirky group of gal pals, to be on American Idol, and to marry a shlub like Kevin James or Ray Romano. Oh, and to look sexy and young while doing it.

Don't believe the hype - there's more to a woman than looking sexy.

Okay, for one thing, I'm not Catholic, so I don't need a Priest. Another thing, please don't judge my soul, only God can do that, so you have no right to tell me what kind of "trouble" my soul is in. I know my soul and obviousley you don't. So please don't be judgemental on my soul when you truely do not even know who I am.

Secondly, in case you didn't read my post, I just said it's not supposed to promote that kind of life, girl's aren't supposed to look up to them and want to be beautiful blonde sluts with big silicone breast, it's all just pure fantasy and fiction. Who ever really does aspire to be like one of the girls should get help, because it's like living in a false dream. And also I have a great respect woman, this show doesn't change my perception on what woman should be like, because I know it's obviousley not realistic. So you can't just judge how someone has respect for woman, because not all men live in that stereotype you just mentioned.

Oh and one more thing I forgot to mention, since you think I'm just some dumb male drooling over them. It's more then their appearence, it's their personalities that keep me watching, but you probably never got a chance to realize that did you.

So in the end, quit being so judgemental on everything especially me since you don't know me, you have to look at things at both sides of the spectrum and realize that it's isn't realistic so no one should look at it that way.

As for female viewers, girls that watch the Hills and Laguna Beach are usually in their teens. Most female viewers of TGND are woman 18-39.

That was kind of a joke. But the fact that you took it seriously means you do have some serious problems and are not as innocent or clean as it seems perhaps you're posing to be.

jeremy88 wrote:Secondly, in case you didn't read my post, I just said it's not supposed to promote that kind of life
You may think it's not supposed to - but it does anyway.

jeremy88 wrote:it's all just pure fantasy and fiction.
That is still very harmful to the public.

jeremy88 wrote:I know it's obviousley not realistic.
Maybe that's true. But you don't necessarily represent the majority in this case.

jeremy88 wrote:not all men live in that stereotype you just mentioned.
Enough people do to make this a problem. Not everyone sees this as just 1 man's fantasy.

Those girls have less personality each than the characters on Charlie's Angels.

I have. I saw the side of the deception, and the reality that lies underneath. The cause & the effect. You aren't willing to look at what shows like this are contributing to.

So are all your postings serious or not? When it comes to people judging my soul, I take it very seriousley no matter what, because it's a kind of thing no one should really do. And I know I'm not innocent or clean, because I was born of sin in fact I sin a lot! I'm not going to lie and say I'm a perfect angel cause I'm not at all. But I know I have Jesus to repent for those sins, and that boosts my faith to be strong and and try not live in sin so much. I'm not going to further in religion only because that's like an endless argument that could go on for decades.
Lazario wrote: You may think it's not supposed to - but it does anyway.
Which is why mature viewers should watch it so they know it's not supposed to.
Lazario wrote: That is still very harmful to the public.
Again, the public isn't supposed to take it that way, that's not why it's on t.v, if your looking for something that should affect the public, people should watch the news or the discovery channel, that is realistic.

Lazario wrote:
Maybe that's true. But you don't necessarily represent the majority in this case.
So then it's just sad to know the majority of people are watching it for the wrong reason, which I really don't believe so...maybe if they have the mentality of a 5 year old...

Lazario wrote:

Like who exactly? I don't see some major trend going on because of the show.

Lazario wrote:

Not really...they are very different and unique compared to one an another...but you kind of have to watch the show to get to know them. Which you don't so it's understandable for someone to think that way.

Lazario wrote:

Even so, in the end it doesn't mean all the viewers are falling into that trap, because there could be a lot of other viewers like myself that watch it and don't take it realistically, but really just like any other t.v show people are going to watch it and take for what they want it to be. It just so happens this show is reality mix with fiction.

Maybe a female should say something:

I've seen "The Girls Next Door" a few times. It's entertainment fluff, but it's entertainment. I'm 22 and comfortable in my skin, so I don't have a problem with it, personally, but I don't know how I would feel about it if my 15 year old self were watching it. I don't know much about the Playboy world, but I'm assuming that Mr. Hefner isn't married (since he has 3 girlfriends). I think that certain people could get warped perceptions of the world through this type of show; men could think that it's okay to have multiple girlfriends, and girls could think it's okay to dress like a tramp and to be taken advantage of. That's why parents and teachers should eduate kids on loving themselves and not being taken advantage of. I have no problem with the show, but I agree that certain people could be corrupted by it.

Though I've never heard of this show until today (thankfully), the entire thing is just another example of the tacky, stupid and offensive crap that occupies 80% or more of all television timeslots these days. This seems to be one of the more disgusting examples.

Also, the name is inappropriate. The girls featured on this show couldn't be further from the typical "girl next door" stereotype. These women are artificial... I'd rather date an alien or an android than one of these, to be honest.

If you haven't really seen the show and just read the synopsis of it, then yes I can see how you could view it in that way(cause I thought the same at first), but considering you've never even seen an episode to have a full evaluation, you really can't say anything about it because basically your reading the cover rather then whats inside the book.

BlackCauldron85, I like your post because it kind of emulates both sides of the issue here, it is nothing but entertainment fluff, and people should let others know that it's nothing more then entertainment and shouldn't be taken seriousley and to show that it's not something that should be lived in real life.

Anyways, I think this thread should just get locked now, because I didn't make this thread to spark an arguement, or have people come in and just talk about how stupid and offensive it is, I made it to see if there were any others who enjoy the show. Obviousley there isn't anybody, so I don't really see a point for this thread to go any further.
