Owen Wilson Hospitalized due to Suicide Attempt
http://www.yahoo.com/s/661361
I know Owen Wilson has Asperger Syndrome which is a High Functioning Type of Autism (same as I have) but I would have never imagined he would go and do something like this...
Thanks goodnesess his brother Adam found him before something even more tragic happened..
I hope Owen Wilson is feeling back to his old self very soon

Isn't the attempted suicide report just a rumor at this point? Either way, hopefully everything is okay.

So I've heard. Almost everyone won't stop making fun of him at every possible chance. I never liked him, but suicide is no laughing matter.
And disneyboy20022, suicide rates are high among those on the autistic spectrum.

The article I have posted is out of date, but only because I cannot locate the last one I read on the matter. The suicide rates are much higher by alarming proportions.

Owen Wilson!? Possible suicide attempt!?
Well... I've never been too fond of Wilson myself (he feels kind of cold) but I certainly can't say I dislike him.
I'm surprised to see he has Asperger's Syndrome. I have that too, and I know a lot of other UDers do too (though I've forgotten a lot of them).
Just shocked ...

You can't make those kind of statements and expect not to offend anyone. There are plenty of Aspergians who are very good actors. I myself have been acting since the age of three, and almost majored in the field of theatre performance. I chose not to for the sake of a stable paycheck, but that is beside the point. My obvious points are that many on the spectum can and do flourish in the realm of acting, and that I find your remark to be offensive.toonaspie wrote:Cuz really people who have Asperger's can barely make it into acting.
So to me that is kind of hard to belive...the asperger thing I mean

Prudence is right, you know. Also, I have a weird feeling that Aspergians are incorrectly thought to lack imagination and/or lack artistic vision.Prudence wrote:You can't make those kind of statements and expect not to offend anyone. I, for one, know that I've got a wild imagination, and judging from only her posts, Prue does too (not to mention a lovely and sophisticated style of writing

Fox News is reporting that police have said that it was, in fact, a suicide attempt.

whoa, I thought all of this was just another hollywood rumor! Now I'm seeing it on the news and everything. That is really terrible, I hope he's doing okay, and I hope he get's help soon. Could the suicide attempt be from the syndrome? Or are there other things in his life that could have caused this? (I'm not too keen on disorders and syndromes so I don't understand the affects of Aspergers Syndrome)

I don't think it was meant to be offensive. Just a lack of understanding. I mean, i'm not that old, but when I was going in school these diagnosis weren't thrown around left-right and center. Now it seems like every other person is on the spectrum in some way. I'm almost certain that if they were more keen on diagnosing things 10 years ago I would be as well.Prudence wrote:You can't make those kind of statements and expect not to offend anyone. The thing people need to understand about Asperger's/Autism is that there are varying degrees of the disorder, and no two people diagnosed will have exactly the same symptoms. Alot of people with Aspergers are very high functioning and upon meeting them you may not even notice anything different. I've worked with a kid who was much more low functioning and he would make random noises, act out and have trouble following directions.
So, while some people with Asperger's or Autism may have such extreme cases that they never even speak, or may have trouble showing emotion and therefore not be able to be actors, many can go on to have any job they want and have very few limitations from the syndrome.
Anyways, I hope everything goes ok for Owen and that he's able to figure things out for himself and go on to live a happy life. I'm curious to see if we get any more details or insight into what happened.
it wasnt mean to be offensive
the biggest impairments for those with Asperger's involve facial expression and body language and the lack of ability to control or create varities of them. Acting involves providing the right eye contact, the right facial expressions, the right body language, etc. I know people with Asperger's are totally capable of acting on a vocal scale but it's much more difficult for them to also provide the right body language alongside.

I'm not that young. However, I would venture to say that my life would be a living hell if I had been born even five years later than I was. The reason I was diagnosed in the first place was because I was born prematurely and predicted to be mentally retarded upon birth. In fact, unlike all the other children in my family, I was an extremely "cheap" baby. I was even offered to be thrown away.Princess Stitch wrote:I mean, i'm not that old, but when I was going in school these diagnosis weren't thrown around left-right and center. I obviously wasn't abandoned, but my mother did drag me to a yearly mental health check-up until she found something to label me with. I've questioned said label tremendously, especially since no one suspects it in the least. A few people have ironically suspected me to have ADHD, which is absurd because the reasons for their suspicions involved my being extremely focused.
I apologize for going off of the topic, but I wanted to agree and disagree with you. One thing I despise about this and the previous decade is the intense desire people seem to have to label every child, and for that matter, every human. My father later received the same diagnosis as I.

And thank you, Mr. Carter.

The thing that bothers me, other than the fact that 94% of his characters are all the same, is that he's cocky without any reason whatsoever to be. He is not that special. His nose is the only attractive thing about him. His voice is annoying, he almost always plays a snob, a playboy, or some upperclass, stoner-ish, dumbfounded "guy."Chernabog_Rocks wrote:I found it hard to like Owen Wilson
