Finding used Disney DVDs, but not online - a discussion

Post by Barbossa »

Has anyone found a great deal on used Disney DVDs? (anywhere but online) or found something rare at 2nd hand stores or other sources? Let's hear your stories.

Today I went to one of the local EB Games stores and in their used DVD section I found Walt Disney Treasures On the Front Lines. I got it for $9.99! It's #466 of #250,000. The tin has a few minor dents, and the discs have very few scratches on them, but the inserts are all there including the collectible art. I was very happy to find it.

Usuall for good used Disney DVD deals, I go to Game Stop or FYE (sometimes FYE's expensive though). My great deals from Game Stop:

August 2005: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Platinum Edition, $16.99, ALL inserits, like new condition!

October 2005: Beauty and the Beast, Platinum Edition, $12.99, no slipcover, no inserts, but discs in flawless condition

November 2005: Sleeping Beauty, 2-Disc Special Edition, $14.99, no slipcover, all inserts, light scratches, but plays GREAT!

December 2006: 101 Dalmatians (Animated), Limited Issue, $9.99, all inserts, VERY light scratches, plays GREAT!

January 2007: Return To Neverland, $12.99, all insert(s), no scratches!

March 2007: Peter Pan, 2002 Special Edition, $12.99, all inserts, no scratches! (I got this one because I liked the vibrant colors on the video of the SE rather than the PE).

Those are the only GOOD deals on Disney DVDs I got at Game Stop - other prices that I got other DACs for from there were just - ok deals.

I have yet to find a good deal at FYE, but I look. With Gamestop, however, I find good deals all the time! Here are my deals:

WDT: On the Front Lines- $12.99 (few dings on tin; otherwise, great with band)
Snow White PE: $17.99 (MINT!)
Fantasia Anthology: $34.99 (MINT save for a tiny wear on box)
Dumbo 60th Anniversary- $12.99 MINT w/ inserts
Alice in Wonderland $12.99 (w/slipcover and got inserts later on)
101 Dalmatians LI Animated- $9.99 (MINT)
The Jungle Book LI (suprisingly, MINT)
Beauty and the Beast- $12.99 (some scratches, wear on slipcover)
Mulan- $12.99 (mint)

And that's it for Disney..I also got:

Balto $9.99 (near mint)
Looney Tunes: Golden Collection 1 $24.99 (MINT!! as in, almost new)
LT: GC Volume 2 $24.99 (disk art scratched up, no box, which I got later)
LT: GC Volume 3 $24.99 (MINT, box a little torn though)

I might think of others later, but that's what comes to mind.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs: Platnium Edition. Discs are perfect, all inserts included. Only flaw was that someone had cut the UPC off the cover art (probably to get thr 5 dollar mail-in-rebate). I found it at a Value Village thrift store for $4.99.

Atlantis:the Lost Empire (Single Disc Edition). Disc has minor scratches that do not effect play. Inserts included, case in excellent shape. $3 Dollars at a local pawn shop.

Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Bambi, Brother Bear, Lilo and Stitch, Tarzan (single disc, original release), Dumbo (60th anniversary), The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh (25th anniversary). I found all of them at local pawn shops. They all play great though condition and insert inclusion varied. Payed between 4-12 dollars each.

The Three Caballeros. $7 on Blockbuster's Previously Viewed collection shelf. Inserts, Disc and Case all included and in great shape.

I rarley buy any DVD's new. The prices for new releases are just way too high and nobody ever puts Disney movies on sale here.

Widdi, you don't put where you live so we can help you find bargains. If we knew your location in the US, Canada, or elsewhere there are those of us who can help.

I never shop at GameStop, or Electronics Boutique for DVD's because I have never gotten one that I didn't have to take back because the Disc wouldn't play or it skipped or something. My favorite places to shop are Pawn shops, Used DVD stores, Hollywood Video or Blockbuster Video, and I do a lot of garage sale shopping, you would be surprised how many bargains you can find there. I found a "Your Host Walt Disney" Treasures, complete in the tin with all the inserts, in like-new condition for $5.

We also have a store here in Wichita called BuyBack$ and they buy, sell and trade DVD's for ridiculous prices. I picked the Special Edition of Apple Dumpling Gang for $2.99 and The Apple Dumpling Gang Ride Again for $3.99, and both were like new, no stickers or anything on the sleeves, and the discs were like new. Also picked up Darkwing Duck Volume One for $7.99 and it was just like brand new.

You just have to look around, and not be afraid to do a little shopping. There are lots of bargains out there, and they can be found.

I found the 2-Disc Special Edition of Sleeping Beauty at EB Games for $14.99. It had the slipcover and all inserts and the discs were in great condition! :D
But the thing that makes Woody special, is he'll never give up on you... ever. He'll be there for you, no matter what.

I always find my hard-to-find-in-my-area DVD at the same place. It's a local store that sells only DVD and VHS. They have very low price. I always find good deals!

They have a lot of Disney movies. They have old VHS and hard-to-find/OOP DVDs such as Collector's Gift Set, Gold Collection and a lot more. Sometimes, the price is high on some OOP DVDs but at least I know they are authentic.

The only problem is that each time I go, I spend so much money!! I have to avoid this place! lol My last purchases there were The Brave Little Toaster for $4 and Masterpiece Collection VHS for $1 each.

We have a place called Disc Exchange here in Calgary and you can pick up pretty much any used DVD or VHS tape. I picked up a used BATB there for $20 CAN, the discs were in perfect condition, with all the inserts and the slipcover. The slipcover wasn't in the best shape, though. Pawn shops are also a great place to find movies.
