About "Enter The Maelstrom"
"Enter the Maelstrom," the exclusive showpiece of the Blu-ray Disc, takes you deep into the perilous whirlpool of the Maelstrom, a sequence of unimaginable scale. The colossal battle between the Black Pearl and the Flying Dutchman stands as one of the most impressive action set pieces in cinema history with its photorealistic blend of live-action footage and computer-aided FX wizardry. Jerry Bruckheimer hosts the BD-Java feature -- a one-hour immersive, interactive tour that explores the sequence from stem to stern, covering everything you would want to know and more about this awe-inspiring cinematic achievement. Explore the Palmdale hanger that housed the sets from floor to ceiling seamlessly through an interactive, time-lapse footage interface. In-feature pop-ups and selectable icons appear throughout the time-lapse footage over different areas of the massive set; navigating to each of these reveals multimedia content about how the Maelstrom was created, from set construction to special effects. Discover the Maelstrom on your own, or take a tour of the highlights of the set with Jerry Bruckheimer, who also provides optional commentary throughout the feature.
"Enter the Maelstrom" is a BD-Java interactive feature that was developed and produced by Disney and programmed by Panasonic Hollywood Laboratory. Panasonic is a key technology provider for BD-Java or Blu-ray Disc Java, which is the interactive platform supporting advanced content for Blu-ray Disc. BD-Java allows bonus content on Blu-ray Disc titles to be far more sophisticated then bonus content provided by standard definition DVD. Panasonic also handled the film's AVC video compression (Advanced Video Coding; a digital video codec standard that is noted for achieving very high data compression) direct from digital intermediates as well as menu authoring for Disc 1 of the Blu-ray 2-disc set.
Synopsis
Just when he's needed most, Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp), that witty and wily charmer of a pirate, is trapped on a sea of sand in Davy Jones' Locker. In an increasingly shaky alliance, Will Turner (Orlando Bloom), Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley) and Captain Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) begin a desperate quest to find and rescue him. Captain Jack's the last of the nine Pirate Lords of the Brethren Court who must come together united in one last stand to preserve the freedom-loving pirates' way of life. From exotic Singapore, to World's End and beyond, from Shipwreck Island, to a titanic battle, this adventure's filled with over-the-edge action, irreverent humor and seafaring myth and magic. Everything has led to this twisting, turning, wild swashbuckling ride in this final chapter of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" trilogy.

That's odd. Why wouldn't the double-disc set contain the audio commentary, where the single disc would? That doesn't make much sense to me. Aren't most single disc editions just the first disc of the double-disc set? Anyway, I'll be picking up the 2-Disc set, even though it "might" not have the audio commentary. The bonus features look pretty good, and since I have yet to even see the film, I'll have it to look forward to as well. Now, hopefully, there won't be a Pirate 4 (even though I think I read something about there being one somewhere in the forum).MadonnasManOne wrote:2-Disc Disney DVD Bonus Materials

I'm sure it's just a mistake in the Press Release. I can't see why they would make the commentary available only on the single-disc release, and not the 2-Disc DVD or Blu-Ray versions.TheSequelofDisney wrote: That's odd. Yes, I posted a while back about the possibility of a Pirates 4. I am sure it will happen, at some point down the line.
This release sounds just as good as the one for Dead Man's Chest. My only complaint is the lack of deleted scenes, galleries, and trailers. I'm guessing deleted scenes were left out for an extended edition down the line (perhaps the inevitable mega boxset will comprise of extended versions of all three films). Still, I'll be picking this up. I can always sell my copies of all three if a fancy set is released (especially if the sequels contain commentary by Keira Knightley and Jack Davenport; their commentary for Black Pearl was hysterical).
I wonder what the cover art will look like. Unlike the first two, At World's End didn't have floating heads above the logo and a ship at the bottom. My guess is they'll probably mimic those two covers by putting all of the individual character banners together.

i hope they go for a cramped cover of characters in the mist.or maybe theyll do a unique 5 different covers ala a bug's life VHS.
im thinking there wont be any deleted scenes for AWE since to movie is freakin long itself.how much more detailed can it be. but then again most deleted scenes can be viewed in snippets in the making of....like the liar's dice extended sequence in DMC
here's hoping the making of feature is as extensive as the first two dvds.they hold up among disney's best documentary features.

I will definatley be picking this up when the time comes around. This release seems just as good as the others.
My only complaint is that I would reeeeaaaaallly like to see another Jack & Keira commentary (but the fact that we still have the amazing writers commentaries is great).
Hmmm...I wonder what the coverart will be like?

Not that the status of the commentary matters, because given the track record, it won't show up on the European BD release. Which if bloody ridiculous when you think about it, and how much the BDA boast about their 50GB discs and how superior they are over HD DVD.
And of course, the US release is likely to be region locked, unlike the recent Pirates catalog releases.
Blu Ray. Isn't it great?

Thanks for posting this, Luke! The Press Release that Luke posted does show the Feature Audio Commentary on the 2-Disc Edition. It still doesn't list it on the Blu-Ray.Luke wrote:Press release here: http://www.ultimatedisney.com/pirates-a ... -1204.html

I do not know what to think about the cover art. I like elements of it, but, not entirely. I am sure it will go through some revision. I'm hoping that they will tone down the blue, a little. Blue is my favorite color, however, all of the art from the film seemed more grey to me.
At any rate, I will be picking up the 2-Disc set to go with the other 2-Disc sets in my collection. I still haven't seen the film, and have decided to wait until it is released to DVD. I figure I didn't see the first one in theaters (only saw it when I got the 2-Disc set for $5.00 at a local flea market), saw the second one in the theater, so, I'll wait to see the third one in the comfort of my own home. Then, when Pirates 4 comes out, I'll have to see it in the theater, just to keep a pattern!

I actually really like the blue. The first film had a very yellow cover, the second one green, so it makes sense for this one to be blue (red would've worked, too, but blue represents the film better). While I'm glad they used the character posters like I predicted, I think that a) they should've used the image of Jack from the official poster and b) position everyone a bit neater. The top half of the cover looks a little hodge podge. Still, overall I like it.
It actually comes out a week before the Treasures, but I can see if the Cover Art page threw you off since December's not yet been divided into weeks.brotherbear wrote:I'm really excited about this release, but I'm also a little sad because this set comes out on the same day as the next wave of WDT...boy, my wallet is going to hate me...![]()
I'm pretty sure that the commentary will be on all versions. The Blu-ray list specifies "All Standard DVD Bonus Content" under Disc 2, so I'm sure that is meant to include Disc 1's commentary. At this point, I can't imagine Disney doing DVD-exclusive extras.MadonnasManOne wrote:Thanks for posting this, Luke! No huge surprises in this announcement, but it's exciting nonetheless. Will look forward to hearing details on the commentary. I'm also hoping that "The Pirate Maestro: The Music of Hans Zimmer" covers more than just his <i>At World's End</i> score. It would be cool to see a substantial featurette on his career. Even if it's confined to just this movie, though, it should be interesting.
Biggest complaints:
*Lack of trailers
*Would liked to have seen a featurette on the changes in the POTC attractions
*The cover art
...Concerning the latter, I like the blue, but the cover doesn't at all grab my attention. It looks like a catalogue title with a hastily-assembled cover. The top part is too cluttered and the ships going over the cliff don't do enough to balance them with the bottom half. Hopefully some changes are made.

Thanks Luke For posting the cover art... I think it looks like the best cover art out of all 3... mainly because it does not copy the theatrical poster as the other 2 have been pretty much duplicated....Although my question is... Where i Davey Jones on this cover.. Perhaps hes on the back....
This is what the Theatrical Poster should have looked like... Not just Jack Sparrow

Agreed, the bottom half looks great but the top half is just a mess. To me Jack is fine where he is, the others are a different story. Chow didn't really have that big part in the film so I would just take him off the cover(maybe put him on the back). Geoffrey looks ok, he just needs to be moved to the right a bit more. Keira and Orlando, maybe a different pose will work????Disneykid wrote:.....and b) position everyone a bit neater. The top half of the cover looks a little hodge podge.
....I'm guessing that the single disk has a different cover seeing how the 2-disk set doesn't have a border.
It's mostly the same thing but without the red banner on top and with the center title banner being predominantly tan rather than red. The bottom half is different though. I'll try to post it later.jrboy wrote:....I'm guessing that the single disk has a different cover seeing how the 2-disk set doesn't have a border.
