Footloose (2011)

Post by TheSequelOfDisney »

Recent news that I just heard about 5 minutes ago on "Live With Regis & Kelly." Starring Zac Efron with direction [and probably choreography(just butchered that word)] by Kenny Ortega.

Info (sorta; it really just says the same stuff, but still):

On one, it says that it'll be based on the semi-successful Broadway show, but the music would be different.........Interesting. Opinions?

I think Footloose is ripe for a remake and Zac Efron seems capable to me (though Hairspray will tell us a lot more about his abilities). I'm not the biggest fan of the original movie, but it does have potential. I'd love it if John Lithgow reprised his original role.

As for the musical, I haven't heard anything from and don't know much about it, but I'm always up for a new musical.

I never cared that much about the original Footloose. So... remake-on. 8)

I'm jumping on the "I didn't care for the original" train  It just ran on and on and on for me, the songs were kinda lame to me, the dance numbers never made me want to get up and do it too. All in all a disappointment, I hope they give it more oomph  I like the song Footloose, but that might be about it. I hated the ending, the big speech Kevin Bacon gave  it was ok, I would have liked seeing him do a dance instead, but that's just IMO.

That's pretty much how I felt. I mean, I liked the stuff with John Lithgow. He was very serious and it was a credit to how interesting a drama the movie wanted to be, half the time. But the other half of the time, I remember not being very impressed by all the dancin'. I just have a problem with seeing about 25 minutes of a group of kids going through stresses, then... dancin' it off. How compellin' . But, John Lithgow was very believable and great actor and all that fun stuff. Too much fighting, none of it meant very much. As for the 'town that won't allow dancin' thing... I think most people laughed at that after they saw it. I mean, thinking about it... a group of kids die dancing on a bridge? Because of a drunk driver? And the dancing was the problem? Were the kids hypnotized by a jig-ging Leprechaun at the time? Was it Stevie Nicks doing a gypsy dance and cast a spell over them? Or, did they just watch that scene from Saturday Night Fever way too many times?

Not that a remake will be any better.

Agreed, and we can always skip the movie and head to the episode of "3rd Rock From the Sun" in which he delivers his famous Footloose sermon if we want to hear it again. :D

Third Rock always delivered an entertaining Lithgow performance. Though I think the Campbell's soup thing has really made him into a silly guy. I don't know many people who can take him seriously again after those. Unless he plays a serial killer.
