Quote on The Lion King Extras in USA Weekend

Post by Luke »

In this weekend's syndicated "USA Weekend" newspaper insert, there is an article on DVD Extras and Missing DVD Extras.

Anyway, there was this quote on The Lion King, accompanying a graphic of 3 shots:
The Lion King: The Platinum Edition includes footage from the Disney animation team's trip to Africa and a start-to-finish look at production. "We used everything we found," says Andy Siditsky of Buena Vista Home Entertainment. Jonathan Taylor Thomas' reading of Young Simba's lines influenced an early sketch, center. Right, the finished character.
That's amazing! Did you guys know they couldn't find any of the trailers or TV ads or award speeches? Did you know that they couldn't find the half-hour Making-of Documentary? Wow, their headquarters must be a real mess! IMAX trailers from just a few months earlier - not found!

Anyhow, you can read the article here:

 Yeah, the IMAX trailers used to promote a promotion for the DVD...those weren't kept, apparently, even though one of them showed up on the Beauty and the Beast DVD as a sneak peak. I suppose they don't have any copies of the Beauty and the Beast set in storage for archival purposes? Odd. What are the Disney archives for anyway? I guess the same applies to the old Lion King laserdisc, which explains why almost none of that stuff was included either, except the commentary, which they probably had on tapes from when they recorded it. Odd that they even bothered to keep those.

And, oh, yeah, minor detail, the smallest of possibile glitches and technicalaties, an easy mistake to make I'm sure, but they seem to have misplaced the original 1994 theatrical cut as well :P..

Moral of the story: guys, it's time to have somebody clean up the place. Clean, dust, mop, etc., and repeat after me. "Whistle while you work, da da da da da da, it won't take long when there's a song to help you set the pace. So hum a merry tune..." ;).

Thanks for the link, Luke. I missed seeing the Weekend insert this weekend and this was a nice read.
