Pirates of the Caribbean 4 confirmed?
I really don't know how I feel about this. I know that Disney would like to continue making money off of this franchise, but, I really don't want them to continue, if they are just going to run it into the ground. The following story suggests that Pirates of the Caribbean 4 has been confirmed.

Pirates 4 may see Jack Sparrow go where no sailor has ever gone before

Sydney, June 20 : Rumours that another "Pirates of the Caribbean " sequel is in the offing have been confirmed now.
According to a report from Cinema Blend, actors Johnny Depp and Geoffrey Rush will reprise their roles of Captain Jack Sparrow and Captain Hector Barbossa respectively.
However, no one else from the original three films will be re-cast, as the series will now revolve on Jack Sparrow.
The report also says that the next film, to be directed by Gore Verbinski again, could be a complete science fiction film.
"Some of the brainstorming going around involves some Jules Verne type of scenarios involving some pretty big flying machines, a man who wants to rule more than just the ocean, a encounter with the most famous and dangerous pirate of all, a race to get to a lost world (Hint, Hint) and Jack and his crew going to where no pirate has gone before," Moviehole quoted an insider, as stating on the site.

To attack strange new worlds
To pirate-ize all life and all civilizations
To boldly go

The "lost world" seems indicative of Atlantis, but Disney's last foray into that world wasn't too profitable. So I guess that means no power crystals or Princess Kidagakash crossing over!

The Pirates of the Caribbean films have been an enormous success for Disney. It really isn't surprising that Disney would try to extend it further. I'm not a huge fan of the Pirates films, mostly because I feel they are just overrated, but I'm sure many UD members will be happy to hear of this.

Never a good sign when they rely on the sole success of a character to carry a franchise (just my opinion).MadonnasManOne wrote:However, no one else from the original three films will be re-cast, as the series will now revolve on Jack Sparrow.
Does anyone else think this cheapens Davey Jones' appearance in the second/third movies?MadonnasManOne wrote:a encounter with the most famous and dangerous pirate of all
I don't know about this. I hope this is just wild talk at this point.

That depends. Would we be seeing a 2D-animated Captain Jack or a live-action Captain Hook?AwallaceUNC wrote:Anyone else up for Peter Pan 1.5: Flight to the Caribbean? A duel between Captain Hook and Witty Jack or Smee and the monkey could be cross-over gold.

how about doing that as a cartoon of Peter Pan characters and live-action of Pirates characters.
now to be serious on my answer to this topic, yes i'm glad that their thinking of contuing the series but it wouldn't be the same without Orlando and Kiera just like Back To THe Future wouldn't be the same without Michel J. Fox.

Re: Pirates of the Caribbean 4 confirmed?
I agree, but with Pirates I think it's an exception. A lot of people who I talked to about a Pirates 4 said they didn't want to see anymore Will and Elizabeth. So I believe taking out Will and Elizabeth is far better than trying to fit them in the story somehow.Disney-Fan wrote:Never a good sign when they rely on the sole success of a character to carry a franchise (just my opinion).MadonnasManOne wrote:However, no one else from the original three films will be re-cast, as the series will now revolve on Jack Sparrow.

i agree since Jack would still be in world's end if weren't for them although it was Elizabeths fault he got there, and without them Kingdom Hearts 2's Port Royal would be lonely after Barbosa died if they weren't around.

not when it's frikking Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow.Disney-Fan wrote:Never a good sign when they rely on the sole success of a character to carry a franchise (just my opinion).MadonnasManOne wrote:However, no one else from the original three films will be re-cast, as the series will now revolve on Jack Sparrow.
I mean who doesn't wanna get rid of Will and Elizabeth. Their character dried up even before At World's End.
obviously, this is for the better.

I guess I'm in the minority on this one...
As much as I love the character, the saying that won't stop ringing true; "Too much of a good thing is usually bad" springs to mind. Will and Elizabeth may not have been crowd favorites but they gave some heart and weight to the franchise and made Depp's gags and appearances seem that much better.

While I agree the POTC flicks are overrated, they're also more fun I've had watching Disney live-action movies since...well, since I was young enough to think Condorman was the coolest thing ever.
As for who comes back for the alleged #4---I think most of those characters' storylines have pretty well played out, although I'll miss Davy Jones very much. I don't see anything barring Calypso's return...
As for the dangers of a one-note franchise: Capt. Jack Sparrow does not exist in a vacuum. If they show as much imagination as in creating the first film, there's no reason to believe there won't be a great new cast of characters to get involved with. There's the whole Brethren Court to play with, too---I wouldn't mind seeing more of them, or some of them, or one of them, provided there's a good story to it.
I'm being baselessly optimistic; I believe there's a real danger they'll run the franchise into the ground. But the company really wants (and maybe needs) something as long and involved and popular and profitable as the Potter franchise, especially now that Universal Orlando is putting in their massive Potter mini-park (which I admit will provide my first true temptation EVER to leave Disney property while on a WDW vacation).
On the other hand, there are some great non-Sparrow possibilities. Say, a Pirates-meets-Apple-Dumpling-Gang Wonderful-World-of-Disney open-ended series based on the Adventures of Pintel & Ragetti?

The Pirate that comes to my mind is not Hook because thats crossing territory into Peter Pan World....a encounter with the most famous and dangerous pirate of all
I think in my own opinion the most Famous Pirate and dangerous pirate of all could be 3 possibble choices:
Captain Hook.
Captain BlackBeard
Captain Silver (aka Long John Silver)
But I don't think Long John Silver though because thats again crossing stories with another famous book although I would rather see Long John Silver than Hook... But I Believe it could be a new version of Blackbeard as the last time ANY type of a Captain BlackBeard that was in a hollywood film was BlackBeard's Ghost.... So Perhaps re-introducing a new remodeled Bad Captain Black Beard might make the best villain yet....
SPOILER:
POTC: THe Fountain of Youth may be just in that horizon in the theater to come

Actually, I really like both attractions and both songs. In fact, I just got Disney's "Happiest Celebration on Earth" CD which has both songs.i'm also in the minority of those that like Tiki Room and the song and ride Small World. its sad that people hate them so.

The Tiki Room song drives me crazy! That being said, I'm not sure that I want to see Pirates IV. "Too much of a good thing" also comes to my mind, and I'm not Jack Sparrow's biggest fan.Daisy Duck wrote:Disneyfreak1990 wrote:i'm also in the minority of those that like Tiki Room and the song and ride Small World. its sad that people hate them so.

If it did, it'd only prove his appearance wasn't that great to begin with.Disney-Fan wrote:Does anyone else think this cheapens Davey Jones' appearance in the second/third movies?MadonnasManOne wrote:a encounter with the most famous and dangerous pirate of all
No, continue the franchise! With Johnny Depp and Geoffrey Rush both back, I will keep watching even if they make Pirates of the Caribbean 10: Futuristic Waters.
I just hope the minor character will be back(Mr. Gibbs, Pintel and Ragetti, Mr. Cotton etc.)
