Rosie's last fight on The View, will not return.

Post by MadonnasManOne »

I know there's a thread discussing the "cat fight" which happened. This thread is about her decision to leave The View.

I can say it's the end of an era. Despite the fact the Rosie can be a loud mouth, she does have very valid points. It is unfortunate that we live in a society where we are expected to just go along with the flow, and never go against the grain. It's very sad, indeed. I know this isn't the last we'll see of Rosie.

Rosie O’Donnell won’t return to ‘The View’
Announcement comes two days after heated on-air fight with co-host

Rosie O’Donnell has fought her last fight at “The View.”

ABC said Friday she asked for, and received, an early exit from her contract at the daytime chatfest following her angry confrontation with co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck on Wednesday. She was due to leave in mid-June.

It ended a colorful eight-month tenure for O’Donnell that lifted the show’s ratings but no doubt caused heartburn for show creator Barbara Walters. O’Donnell feuded with Donald Trump and frequently had snippy exchanges with the more conservative Hasselbeck.

O’Donnell said last month she would be leaving because she could not agree to a new contract with ABC executives.

“Rosie contributed to one of our most exciting and successful years at ‘The View,”’ Walters said. “I am most appreciative. Our close and affectionate relationship will not change.”

In a statement, O’Donnell said that “it’s been an amazing year and I love all three women.”

No one was feeling the love on Wednesday, when the argument with Hasselbeck began over O’Donnell’s statement last week about the war: “655,000 Iraqi civilians have died. Who are the terrorists?”

Talk show critics accused O’Donnell of calling U.S. troops terrorists. She called Hasselbeck “cowardly” for not saying anything in response to the critics.

“Do not call me a coward, because No. 1, I sit here every single day, open my heart and tell people what I believe,” Hasselbeck retorted, and their riveting exchange continued despite failed attempts by their co-hosts to cut to a commercial.

According to a New York Post report, O’Donnell’s chief writer, Janette Barber, was allegedly led out of the building on Wednesday after she was caught drawing mustaches on photographs of Hasselbeck in “The View” studios. ABC executives didn’t return repeated calls for questions on the incident Friday.

On Thursday O’Donnell had asked for a day off to celebrate her partner’s birthday. “The View” aired a taped show on Friday.

On her Web site, O’Donnell posted a scrapbooklike video on Friday with pictures and news clippings of her tenure at “The View.” Cyndi Lauper’s “Sisters of Babylon” played in the background.

A day earlier, she posted messages on her Web site indicating she might not be back.

“When painting there is a point u must step away from the canvas as the work is done,” she wrote. “Any more would take away.”

It's really sad that Rosie's time on "The View" had to end like this, but maybe this incident just showed all the tension surrounding the show, and it is a good "excuse" for Rosie to get out of that earlier. I really like Rosie O'Donnell, so her leaving early is truly sad for the fans, but maybe better for the show.
Just imagine it going on like this until June, or Elisabeth and Rosie being overly polite and nice to each other to hide what is really going on between them.

What a sad way to end her run. It's too bad that they weren't able to discuss things without the personal attacks.

Well... I'm not afraid to say this, either...

When you look at what Rosie said in that YouTube clip of the "cat fight," it could easily be assumed that... Well... Rosie staged the fight (by antogonizing Elisabeth, not by any kind of agreement with her) to try and make it look like Elisabeth attacked her and that Rosie actually left following what Elisabeth said to her. Following Elisabeth's attack in that episode. Because, take a good look at Rosie. I said it before and I'll say it again - Rosie stayed in control. She didn't blow up, fight, attack, or meltdown. She also looked like crap. Which supports the possibility that she may have been, in a sense, posing, as she spoke, in a very beaten-up sort of way (and looking as though she'd been in the sun a bit too long), about how the media had been tearing her apart and making Elisabeth look like the victim.

Again, as I said before in the other post (if there was any kind of bait thrown by Rosie), Elisabeth said things purposefully to upset Rosie. Now, Rosie can say (or more appropriately, it can be said on Rosie's behalf) it was in Elisabeth's nature all along. Which it may have been. Elisabeth is a fool and I think she would like to attack a big liberal figure and get a bunch of butt-pats from her conservative pals. But she may never have done it to Rosie had she not have brought up the media and the roles each woman played in the media's game. Because The View is a format where there is a certain amount of trust the women are supposed to feel toward each other and love / friendship they're supposed to show to each other. And they're supposed to fight over issues, not each other.

If this wasn't a set-up (I mean, c'mon, if you think Rosie is evil... do you actually think she's this clever?), than it doesn't matter who said what. Because if anyone had said what was happening to Rosie O'Donnell isn't fair - they'd be damn right. She says what she says to try to be a strong public figure. And the people she goes after truly do deserve it. Think about, if you're not a supporter of hers, how she bothers you. You know you thought about the fact that she was overweight, a lesbian, a woman, and a liberal - before you considered the truth in anything she said. If Rosie O'Donnell has to be the only one to stick up for Rosie O'Donnell, she's still right.

And Elisabeth is still a very sad, pathetic human being. All she proved was that she can be just as ugly when she frowns, just as loud-mouthed as Rosie, and she can go on the offensive during a confrontation when she's already a Media Darling.

All I can say is good riddance to that fat loudmouth. It would be different if she knew anything about what she expounded on. I won't miss her grating voice.........gad!!, it was like scraping fingernails on a blackboard. Now maybe The View can go back to being what it once was a really good morning program that discussed issues of the day without all of Rosie's political diatribe.

Bill, I am very disappointed in you. I thought that, at your age, you would be above belittling someone because of their weight. Not everyone in society are skinny stick figures, and look like a princess. It's disturbing to me that you even made that statement, "...fat loudmouth", as if her weight had anything to do with her comments. You are no better than she is, or someone like Isaiah Washington (who belittles people by calling them fags), in my eyes. The only difference is, you aren't on national television (thank God!)

By the way, who are you to say what she knows? Do you know her personally? Have you sat down with her, had a conversation, and discussed any issues you might have? Rosie is not stupid. She can think for herself, and she does have opinions, just as everyone else does. She just happens to express herself in a way that doesn't jive with what is considered acceptable. Also, because she doesn't agree with your beliefs, you immediately dismiss her as not knowing what she's talking about, when that is clearly not the case.

Yes, I am sure you are glad she's gone. We know that you would prefer a show that is nothing, but a forum for right-wing conservatives. How boring, and how ignorant.

Such a shame.

Actually, her voice was anything but sharp. It was a lot more throaty than high-pitched. She was the Chalkboard - not the Fingernails.

Hate hate hate - it's an ugly thing. You never could get past the surface of things... To you, this is just about a look and a sound. Why are we listening to you, again? You're no better than the critics of Michael Moore - in fact, you're the same. When you think no one is paying attention to your rhetoric over theirs, you take it down to the level of childish namecalling- and prey upon people's hatred of overweight people. It's pathetic. And if that's what you want to make yourself and your viewpoint - so are you! God forbid, you ever know what it's like yourself to be overweight! And if you are - you should shut your mouth. You are not better than the people you hate, you are far worse.

I've had it UP TO HERE with your hate. That's all you have inside of you. YOU PROVE IT AGAIN AND AGAIN. You're the one who wants to "throw bombs" - that's why your shots are always LOW. You don't see any of the members of this board on TV either doing what the celebrities and pundits do, so you'd better treat us like peers as well.

God forbid you're ever a victim of any hate yourself - you might actually get a little humble.

You know, if I'd said what Lazario just said, I'd be getting vilified by pretty much everyone.

Eh... been there, done that.

The only people who will go after me are... probably just DVDjunkie. Sometimes he chooses not to respond. But his replies are often all the same, anyway. Hate cannot be defended.
