Which princess has the bigger fanbase?
I'm almost afraid to post this because it's like there's an everlasting battle between the princesses of whom has the largest fanbase. What makes me wonder this is that there are Arielholics, but I've never heard of a Belleholic or Cinderellaholic. And then on most merchandise is Cinderella. It gets even more confusing when Disney claims that everyone of their princesses are the number one favorite. So, really which one has the most? And please please please no fighting. This is just simply about which one has the biggest fanbase and which does not.
I put my money on Ariel, Belle, and Cinderella.

I think it would probably have been better phrased as which is your favourite Princess, because that's how most people are going to vote.
I don't think you can say a certain princess has a bigger fanbase anyway. Ariel will be popular at the moment because of The Little Mermaid DVD, likewise Cinderella with Cinderella III. Beauty and the Beast The Musical has made Belle popular fairly constantly, but it's been years since Beauty and the Beast was on DVD, so she could be lagging behind a bit in terms of current merchandising. Aurora seems to be proving very popular at the moment with merchandising, at least over here in the UK.

This topic isn't really up for any real discussion, and I think that it would be better off in Polls & Games.

Oops! I knew I was missing someone!danfrandes wrote:UmbrellaFish, you forgot Princess Jasmine from Aladdin.
Anyway, I wasn't sure rather or not to put this into general or polls. Anyway, I'm trying to talk about harcore fans. Like I said earlier, I've only heard of Arielholics, only. I was just wondering how big the fan-base is for other princesses. I mean, Kida and Cinderella certainly are not equal (at least I think) in terms of fanbase.
Yes, I know odd choices for a few. I trying to fit in most of princess (and you the lion queens have to have so-so fanbase, I mean they're from The (over rated) Lion King). I really can't believe I forgot Jasmine!

I'm voting for Jasmine, even she's not in the list!

It's hard to pinpoint, really. I've noticed Cinderella is immensely popular with both children and older folks, Belle is popular with middle-aged adults, and Ariel's popular with teens and young adults. Now, obviously I'm generalizing, but that's how I've seen it. Either way, those are the three most popular princesses by far, but it's hard to tell who has the biggest fanbase. I guess I could say Ariel because her fans are absolutely zealous. Belle has about the same amount of fans, but they're aren't as, umm, enthusiastic as Ariel's, while Cinderella has the biggest following of all, but most of those fans are simply casual ones.

I voted for Ariel because of the same reason. Ariel is by far not my favorite princess. Personally, my favorite princess is Belle (although I don't really consider her a Princess unlike Jasimine, Ariel, Snow White, or Aurora. I mean, she was the daughter of an inventor, not of a king = not biological a princess!)Simba3 wrote:I don't think she is the best princess by any means, but I voted for Ariel since I think she has the largest fan base.

I think it really ends up being between Ariel and Cinderella. Many like Ariel, but more want to be Cinderella. Plus, Cinderella's more iconic because she's been around for so long. None of the Fab Four are as well-known or as classic as Cinderella.
I think the rest go: Belle, Jasmine, Aurora and then Snow White. Belle is pretty popular in general, but there aren't as many who want to have everything related to the character as the above two.

Listening to most often lately:
Taylor Swift ~ "Elizabeth Taylor"
Katy Perry ~ "bandaid"

As I said, it's only because of recent DVD releases. If Beauty and the Beast was out on DVD next week, then it would go to Belle. If Sleeping Beauty, Aurora, and so on, and so on.
I think it's a bit of a redundant discussion really. They're only ever going to develop a fanbase for whatever's pushed at any one time.

I agree that the time of the DVD release does play a role when it comes to the current popularity of each princess, but I do have the feeling that Cinderella is merchandised a lot more than any of the other princesses.
When I went to Disney World last summer a lot more of the little girls having bought princess costumes walked around in a Cinderella than for example a Belle costume. Cinderella seems to be everywhere, here in Germany we even have Cinderella gummi bears, that are shaped like a castle, a rose, and her slipper. It's just crazy., but they taste really good, and they're pink.
Because of all the Cinderella stuff I guess she might have the biggest fan-base, although Ariel might be a close second. But it's harder to make Ariel merchandise because of her unusual appearance with being a fish and such.
I guess next year will certainly be Aurora's turn with the SB PE being released in fall. But she always seemed to me like a "second-rank princess" since she doesn't appear on everything that features the Disney princesses.
In the end I think the fan-base is concentrated on these three "core princesses":
Cinderella
Ariel
Belle

Which Disney Princess has a Larger Fanbase
When you said older folks, did you mean as in like seniors? Because that would makes sense as Cinderella is from the 50's. It's true, it seems that the Ariel fans are crazy over Ariel, and Cinderella fans are like "Yea, I like Cinderella."Disneykid wrote:It's hard to pinpoint, really. Any girl who marries into royalty, like they marry a prince, becomes a princess. Belle is assumed to have married the Beast and become a princess. In Cinderella, the royal proclamation that the townspeople read on the castle gate says: "That every single maiden in our beloved Kingdom shall try upon her foot this aforementioned slipper of glass, and should one be found whose foot shall properly fit said slipper, such maiden will be acclaimed the object of this search and the one and only true love of his Royal Highness, our noble Prince. And said Royal Highness will humbly request the hand of said maiden in marriage to rule with him over all the land as Royal Princess and future Queen."brotherbear wrote:Personally, my favorite princess is Belle (although I don't really consider her a Princess unlike Jasimine, Ariel, Snow White, or Aurora. But the question was which princess do you think has a larger fanbase, not which princess is more popular! If Beauty and the Beast comes to DVD, Belle doesn't suddenly get more fans, people are just into her more, and the girls who are already fans of her suddenly rush out to get more Belle. But that doesn't mean she gets more fans.darth_deetoo wrote:As I said, it's only because of recent DVD releases. If Beauty and the Beast was out on DVD next week, then it would go to Belle. Being a fan of a character is different from buying that character's stuff at the height of their popularity!

I suppose you could consider me a Cinderellaholic, but I'm just as crazy about her kingdom as I am about her. I'm a fandom dork when it comes to Cinderella and her universe, spouting out useless information about all the characters and scenes. One thing I definitely have noticed is that more adults, including seniors, prefer Cinderella to the other princesses. Then again, the Cinderella story itself is the most universal fairy tale.
I'm this girl in her late teens, talking to seniors about Cinderella and television series that are now on T.V. Land. Odd, yes.
