The Roger Ebert Health Watch & News Thread
Roger Ebert has released some photos of himself as well as a medical update on his condition. He seems in great spirit and sounds like he still has kept his sense of humor through all this.
Ebert & Roeper is one of my favorite shows. I hope he gets well enough to return someday.

This is the curse of Crash! Roger, you should never touted Crash as an Oscar candidate (while dissing Howl's Moving Castle)!
All joking aside, hopefully he gets better. He is a great critic and he's lucky he survived.

I'm happy to see that he's doing okay, even if he still looks like he has some way to go before back to his old self. Roger Ebert's always been my favorite movie critic. Unlike other movie critics (such as Leonard Maltin, whom I also love regardless), Ebert judges a movie on its own merits and what it sets out to be, not what it could've been or how it ranks with similar films. Because of that, he rates popcorn flicks and fun, bubbly movies on a higher level than others would because he knows those films aren't trying to be the next Citizen Kane. He understands that they set out to entertain and thereby judges on that standard. Plus, he's not so pretentious that he considers his opinions as fact. I hope he starts writing movie reviews again soon. I'm dying to know what he'll think of Order of the Phoenix considering he and Joel Siegel are probably the biggest Harry Potter fans in the movie critic world.

Well remember, that "Brown Bunny" filmmaker also put a curse on him. And they say, cosmically, when you do something, you can't undo it. It must run its course.castleinthesky wrote:This is the curse of Crash! Roger, you should never touted Crash as an Oscar candidate (while dissing Howl's Moving Castle)!
Now that I actually believe in voodoo or black magic, but... well, look around. So many bizarre and unbelievable events take place. I wouldn't be surprised if Will Ferrel was some kind of Wizard in his spare time.
I just want Ebert to get back to the Critic thing he does so well. Except, of course, when he's overrating movies like Crash. His website just hasn't been the same lately.

Yeah - I knew he was going to have surgery. But I completely lost him after that. I don't think many people had any clue what was going on. Some people reported he was already recovering, other people reported that something went wrong with the surgery...
It's just all the details of when the surgery happened, and just how long he's been recovering that have left me scratching my head on his condition too.

In case the world was wondering with eager anticipation what Katie Couric's opinion of Roger was
, you can finally rest easy because here it is:

Also, look for Brad Silberling to fill in for Roger this week on Ebert & Roeper, as he and Richard review 28 Weeks Later, Georgia Rule, Away From Her and The Ex.

For those interested, be sure to visit www.atthemoviestv.com on Thursday August 2 for a live online chat with Roger Ebert at 8PM EST, 5 PST. The chat is, among other things, to help launch the new Balcony Archives, where over 4000 movie reviews from the Siskel & Ebert/Ebert & Roeper Show will be just a click away.

Wondering what happened to the "thumbs" in the most recent episode of Ebert & Roeper? Click below to find out:

In my opinion, I think Roger is being really silly about this. It's sad to say, but the odds of him ever being well enough to return on that show is really slim. He should just sell his "thumb rights" and the whole show to Disney and let Roeper and the guest hosts use it. It just didn't feel the same without them.

Even though he lauded that piece of crap Frailty (2001) and completely panned the very good Hellraiser (1987) and Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (also '87), more often than not, he really understood horror very well and I have to respect him a lot. He was a smart critic who always wrote an interesting review. I wish he could go back to his TV gig with Roeper.

Roger Ebert is my favorite film critic and he is an inspiration for my reviews. I really hope he will get better. He is the film critic I agree with the most. He is what made me appreciate movies. I have read a lot of his reviews and think that he is the best film critic who has ever lived. If he were to die it would break my heart
.
He has been a big inspiration and hope he doesn't pass on.
