Rosie O'Donnell leaving The View

Post by crunkcourt »

I just saw on CNN.com that Rosie is leaving The View after not being able to reach an agreement on a contract with ABC.
NEW YORK (AP) -- Rosie O'Donnell's stormy tenure on "The View" will be a short one. The opinionated host was unable to agree on a contract with ABC, and she'll leave the show in June.

"My needs for the future just didn't dovetail with what ABC was able to offer me," O'Donnell said in a statement Wednesday.

"This has been an amazing experience," she said, "and one I wouldn't have traded for the world."

O'Donnell has helped raise the ratings for the daytime chat show invented by Barbara Walters. But her outspokenness has caused almost constant controversy, including a nasty name-calling feud with Donald Trump that placed Walters squarely in the middle.

"I induced Rosie to come back to television on 'The View' even for just one year," Walters said. "She has given the program new vigor, new excitement and wonderful hours of television. I can only be grateful to her for this year."

Walters was frequently left to clean up the damage after O'Donnell. She did it most recently Monday, when O'Donnell was criticized for using bad language and attacking Rupert Murdoch from the dais of the annual New York Women in Communication awards luncheon.

"I would like to point out that Rosie's view is not always mine," Walters said. "I would like to say for the record that I am very fond of Rupert Murdoch."

In the Trump imbroglio, O'Donnell was reportedly mad that Walters did not come more swiftly to her defense, while Trump said Walters told him she didn't want O'Donnell on the show -- a claim Walters denied.

Statements by public figures are being watched more closely in the post-Don Imus era. The lobbying group Focus on the Family said it was preparing to contact advertisers on "The View" as part of a campaign against O'Donnell. The group is angry at O'Donnell for comments they feel were insulting to Catholics.

Despite controversy -- or maybe because of it -- O'Donnell was good business for ABC, owned by the Walt Disney Co. Ratings for "The View" during February sweeps were up 15 percent in key women demographics over the same time in 2006.

Rosie shocks the nation again!

In other news, Season One of her talk show is apparently on its way to DVD (if moviemusicals.net still comes here, he'll be very happy):

This really bums me out...I enjoyed the show much more with her on it to the point where I would actually wake up on my days with no morning classes just to watch the show. Plus I really like the support she gave to Broadway shows.

But if we do get season one of the talk show, I'll be happy.

Now there really is nothing to stop The View from being cancelled. I'm sure we haven't heard the last of Rosie though. She's probably quietly negotiating with another studio for her own talk show as we speak.

well I am done watching The View, Rosie was the only good thing about it, I loved her and she actually made this show interesting. I loved how she always put Elizabeth in her place (I can't stand her) but yes Joy is the only reason to watch now.

I am glad to see Rosie leaving "The View". She is the epitome of the 'left-wing bomb throwers" that the lefties out there love. She says things without any facts to back them up. Sure her opinions are her opinions and she is entitled to them. But when she starts hurting people by the things she says, then it is time to draw the line. I really think that her leaving will be a big help to ABC. They were getting a lot of pressure by a lot of groups to get her to tone down her act, or to just shut up and be a hostess.

I used to like Rosie when she was on VH1, and when she had her own variety show. But nowadays, she has turned into a one-woman hate-bearing human being, and needs to get her facts straight before she starts standing up for things that require other people to have to fix for her (i.e., her rant on Donald Trump, or her rant about the US government blowing up the World Trade Center just to start a war).

There is an old-saying that she should follow: Be sure brain is engaged before putting mouth into gear.

You know, although I don't watch The View, I love Rosie O'Donnell. I am quite sure that her appearance on the show breathed new life into it. I watched a few episodes back when it first came on, but, it didn't really interest me.

By the way, Bill, just because I like Rosie O'Donnell, doesn't mean I am a "left-wing bomb thrower". Just as you accuse Rosie O'Donnell of speaking before engaging her brain, you have done the same. You shouldn't lump people who enjoy her, as one group or another. People enjoy who they enjoy for various reasons.

Secondly, the whole idea of The View is just that. A group of women getting together, and giving their point of view. A majority of the time they are giving their opinions without facts to back them up. That's why it's an opinion, and why the show isn't called The Facts.

Besides all of that, it was time someone gave a rant about Donald Trump. The man is a buffoon, and it's high time someone gave him a taste of his own medicine.

I thought she added a lot in terms of humor, perspective and fun to the show. I think it'll be sad to see her go, 'cause I think she really helped make the show better, because she was so funny and opionated. I wonder if she'll ever do a version of her show again?

Count yourself lucky. There are very few reasons to watch 99.9% of television these days, and the View surely isn't one of them.

Before the Games Begin, First- a cheery pop song, to help the medicine go down:

"Do you hear me?
Do you care?
Do you hear me? Do you care?

My lips are moving and the sound's coming out
The words are audible but I have my doubts
That you realise what has been said

You look at me as if you're in a daze
It's like the feeling at the end of the page when you realise
You don't know what you just read

What are words for
When no one listens anymore?
What are words for?
When no one listens what are words for
When no one listens
There's no use talking at all

I might as well go up and talk to a wall
'Cause all the words are having no effect at all
It's a funny thing.. am I all alone?

Something has to happen to change the direction
What little filters though is giving you the wrong impression
"it's a sorry state," I say to myself

What are words for
When no one listens anymore?
What are words for?
When no one listens what are words for
When no one listens
There's no use talking at all

Do you hear me? Do you care?
Do you hear me? Do you care?

Let me get by over your dead body
Hope to see you soon
When will I know?
Doors three feet wide with no locks open
Walking always backwards in faces of strangers
Time could be my friend
But it's less then nowhere now....

Pursue it any further and another thing you'll find
Not only are they deaf and dumb they could be going blind
No one notices
I think I'll dye my hair blue

Media overload bombarding you with action
It's getting near impossible to cause distraction
someone answer me... before I pull the plug"

And now, we return you to your regularly scheduled program, already in progress:

Sorry to have to do this to you, because I damn-hated it when people always used to do it to me, but... ehh, way of the world I guess : Looks like you're in the minority on this one. Too bad. So sad. Call me when I care. You lose. (I hate gettin' harsh with ya! :P )

dvdjunkie wrote:I used to like Rosie when she was on VH1, and when she had her own variety show.
I didn't care about her one way or the other. But she's proved she's more than just a celebrity, in it for the money. She's proved she cares about the people and will fight wrong-doings right beside us. She took the chance to get married when Politicians told her it was wrong. When BUSH told the nation it was wrong. And she insulted Bush then as she does now. Sorry, I prefer the Rosie with a backbone. To be quaint, she's much more interesting.

dvdjunkie wrote:She says things without any facts to back them up.
You know, you keep going at it this way, people are going to insult you. Fair warning. :D (this smiley can turn real nasty if it's fed bile instead of sugar) There's nothing wrong with anything she said. I mean, just because you want to believe it wasn't the truth. If anything she said was untrue - it's because of the endless lies and heresay emitted by our current "leadership" (yeah, into hell). There's so much of it- who knows what are lies and what are truth? Why "President" Bush hasn't had a Tower of London mental breakdown yet is so far beyond me that comprehension is impossible. It's exhausting to lie with every word one speaks (or so I hear). But then again, we're talking about a man of very-little intelligence here. He probably sits in a big room filled with money (ala- Uncle Scrooge the duck) and swims in it. Or a big Toy Room and plays "Army," since he sends so many young Americans off to fight His War, that I'm sure he's jealous he can't go there and watch all the carnage unfold. "Boom! Zoom zoom! Bam bam bam! You sunk my Battleship, you a**h*le! Oh that's right... this is a mission of peace... Or is it? Muhuwahahahahaha!!! (and you'll notice, I rarely ever use that expression - some things you totally don't expect to become a cliche)"

We've been having these discussions since the dawn of time, O-Lord of the Elitist-Wannabes. When are you going to realize the people are tired of b.s.? The Honeymoon is over for the Bush Administration. The Bloom is off his rose. We keep up the attacks, we finally see dents begin to form in their forcefield. She doesn't need proof - there's enough power in the gossip alone. It's already spread. And like many of the diseases medical science isn't curing (because there's not enough money in the budget for it), you can try picking up the pieces that are out there, but you can't get rid of it.

What a rush. What a racket. What a day - I'm spent.

We don't need Rosie O'Donnell or Michael Moore to know what the truth is, but they were both GOOD, decent human beings who cared a lot about people. Unlike some "elected" officials who should have cared the most, whose JOB it was to care, and who betrayed us. You want to support them? Fine. It's your Moral/Ethical-Funeral!

Not that I expected anything else from our distinguished host down the road of ugly political debates.

dvdjunkie wrote:But when she starts hurting people by the things she says, then it is time to draw the line.
Who did she hurt? Donald Trump? News Flash: some people fake getting injured just to attract attention. Kind of like the Religious Community and all their priceless "Moral Outrage" at everything they see as "dark, sinister, and dangerous" in our society. But when you step into the daylight, you see most of it was superstition and manufactured spooks all along (i.e. : The Big, Angry, Scary Black Man = just a citizen with a notion of empowerment, like the rest of us).

Get a better speech-writer. :P

dvdjunkie wrote:There is an old-saying that she should follow: Be sure brain is engaged before putting mouth into gear.
NO! Junkie, seriously-don't do that... we'd never see ya 'round here.

(Now that one was a joke)

dvdjunkie wrote:and needs to get her facts straight before she starts standing up for things that require other people to have to fix for her
Why... Mi'sst'a Junkie, I do declaya... I never knew you cared. Such a tearful moment. Can't hold back.

Would you care about me too, you know- if I keep my mind closed and only fight the government-approved fight, just like the Bushreich and the hundreds of adoring fans clamoring for an autograph from the World's Biggest D***head?

Good. This is a win/win. Rosie's gone, and now one of two things will happen, both of which are good:

1. The View will become a better show.

2. The View will become worse, sink in the ratings, and get cancelled.

PapiBear wrote:The View will become worse
This will happen either way because Rosie is leaving.

So for the fans, it's certainly not a win/win.

However, since the show was fairly ineffectual to begin with, perhaps it's better that it is cancelled now. While it's at its quality-height.

I am not a Rosie fan. Thus, it is a win/win for me.
