Disney Digital 3D
is amazing. I've seen both The Nightmare Before Christmas and Meet the Robinsons in Disney Digital 3D and both were spectacular. Plus, (as I know you already know), they included the old Chip and Dale/Donald Duck "Working For Peanuts" short in 3D before Meet the Robinsons, AND a new trailer for NBC:3D. (of course, i was dissapointed that they didn't show the trailer for Pirates 3, but that's okay).
Here's my question: with other CGI animated Disney films coming up, like American Dog and Rupunzel, do any of you think they'll be put in Disney Digital 3D as well? What about The Frog Princess? They were able to put "Working For Peanuts" in 3D, do you think they'll do that for other non-CGI films?
My other question: they've taken classics like The Nightmare Before Christmas and "Working For Peanuts" and put them in 3D. Do you think they'll do that for anything else? I, personally, would love to see Alice In Wonderland on the big screen and in 3D. They could call it "Alice In Disney Digital 3D." And what other short cartoons do you think they could put in 3D? I'd love to see "Donald's Snow Fight" in 3D, but that's just me.
What do you guys think?

Two other Disney movies that would be amazing in 3-D would be Hunchback and Tarzan. Both films have spectacular camera angles and rotations that would lend themselves beautifully to the format. Just imagining the "Sanctuary!" scene from Hunchback in 3-D gives me goosebumps.

I think that all Disney CG films will probably get 3D releases. Disney is obviously turning a profit or else they would have stoped already. However, traditionally animated films don't look as convincing in 3D. It looks more like a multiplane camera than a 3D film. The process of turning 2D films into 3D is long and expensive. I'd say that the only re-releases you will see in 3D would be CG Pixar films, and probably only for a 15th anniversary of "Toy Story," if at all.
3D movies have always been more of a fad and it typically dies out. I think it was popular with 50's horror films and then tried to resurface in the 80's, but unsuccessfully. Recently, films have been in Digital and Imax 3D, but it's only about 3 films a year.
Also, I think that "American Dog" is being reconceptualized as a traditionally animated film, so it probably won't get a 3D release.

They didn't put "Working For Peanuts" in 3D like they did for TNBC or MTR. It was originally filmed as a 3D cartoon. I believe there were 3 3D shorts made, so we could see those in front of other Disney digital 3D releases, but I doubt Disney will shell out the time and cash to have other classic shorts converted to 3D.My other question: they've taken classics like The Nightmare Before Christmas and "Working For Peanuts" and put them in 3D. Re: Disney Digital 3D
I didn't get to see a NEW trailer or any trailer fo NBC 3-D... However the trailer that I saw in 3-D was for a U2 Concert in 3-D...... It says its coming this fall... My dad likes that band. He camped out for tickets overnight in Saint Louis to get tickets to their recent tour on St. Louis... So I think to him that preview in 3-D of a U2 Concert made the price of the ticket worth seeing Meet the Robinsons...Skellington or Sparrow wrote:is amazing. I just hope there isn't a sequel..
And Hey since there are other Disney Shorts in 3-D they will probably just use them before/if the restore other cartoon shorts...

Well, as I said in the "NEW REVIEWS FOR MEET THE ROBINSONS!!!!"

So I am a big fan of this as you can tell, and since both in 2005 and to a lesser extent in 2006, people made such a big deal about less people going to the theaters and low numbers at the box office, 3-D I think it a wonderful and new way to get people to go to the theaters as opposed to just waiting until it comes to DVD. It still hasn't completely caught on yet, but with MTR breaking records as the widest release for a 3-D movie to day, plus with those rumors of Star Wars coming in 3-D in honor of it's 30th Anniversary, I hope it can soon.
As for what I'd like to see in 3-D as a personal choice? Well, being (of course) a big TLK fan, I would love to see it on the big-screen in 3-D(especially since I missed out on seeing it at the IMAX
). Treasure Planet is also a good one to be in 3-D(it just needs more love from the audience). Of course, Christmas movies also work well in 3-D for some reason. I loved The Polar Express when seeing it at the IMAX in 3-D, and The Nightmare Before Christmas, well, you can use that handy-dandy search option to find a more detailed report of my wonderful experience there. I'm glad it's coming back next year, if it plays near me again, I'm SO THERE!
Oh yeah, and Pirates of the Caribbean. Since Star Wars is going to be in 3-D, I'd love to see those movies in 3-D as well.

Pretty self-explanatory.I did see it in 3-D, and I have to say after having seen both Nightmare and MTR in 3-D, this is one of the greatest inventions Disney has created in their 84 year history. It just brings such an awesome depth to the movie that you can't explain. You have to see it for yourself. I think 3-D is certainly a way of the future, just like having wider aspect ratios were in the 50s.

While probably belongs more in the off-topic section, it looks that I'm right about the future of 3-D.
http://biz.yahoo.com/ap/070408/3_d_movi ... .html?.v=1
With Zemeckis, Cameron, Jackson, Spielberg and Lucas all having plans to use 3-D, I think it's safe to say 3-D really is going to play a huge role in the future of cinema.
Star Wars in 3-D is of course the coolest project as it'll be very interesting to see how they adapt films even older than Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Chirstmas in 3-D. That, and who wouldn't want to see Star Wars on the big screen again?

I saw that on regular IMAX and it was pretty mind-blowing. 3D might spin me out.TM2-Megatron wrote:I wouldn't mind seeing Fantasia 2000 on IMAX 3-D.
I saw my first Disney Digital 3D on the weekend, and that was "Meet the Robinsons". As I said in the dedicated MTR thread, the use of 3D in the screening I saw was interesting. Aside from a few tricks at the start, the effect was underplayed. Nowhere near as impressive as the work done in Disney's theme parks - which I should add got a few none-too-subtle plugs in the film - but it still resulted in an exceptionally clear picture and visual experience. If only all films looked this good!
I will now make an effort to see future DD3D releases. Usually they are on too far away from me to bother (especially when I have a cinema complex 15 minutes walk from my flat). However, this latest film was shown in the city cinemas, making it much more convenient for a lazy Saturday afternoon.

I actually liked the fact that Disney Digital 3-D was different from the theme park shows like Mickey's Philharmagic. While having things pop out at you is great when you're viewing a 12-minute show at a theme park, that approach would've been too distracting for Meet the Robinsons. Disney Digital 3-D does just the opposite: instead of things coming into the foreground, things seem dimensionally pushed into the background to give depth. The foreground images (like out-of-focus boxes or rain) were subtle and made it feel like you were in the film's environment. The theme park shows (even though I love them) really feel like regular 2-D films that occasionally throw out something extreme at the audience for a 3-D effect. If you watch those films again, the sense of depth and dimensionality that DD3-D has is missing. They only become 3-D when something gets in the camera's face.
Wow, that came out a lot longer than I intended. To sum it up (too late), Disney Digital 3-D rocks and works better for full-length features than standard 3-D techniques would. Any movie I'm interested in seeing that's being offered in 3-D will be seen by me, now, especially since I just got a new theater 15 minutes away that has those capabilities. I really hope Disney tries out some 2-D classics for the format. I'd really pay to see those, and I think the general public would be more interested in 3-D re-releases than IMAX ones.

the 3d in meet the Robinson's was great. although I have to admit it was distracting for like the first 10 mins er so. I had a difficult time focusing on the story, and what the characters were saying because I was focusing on, say, a brick wall. its like having hyper a.d.d or something.
but once I got used to it and started to accept what I was seeing as just a window into another world, I was able to enjoy the movie more.
Edit: by the way, not sure if this was posted here or not, but did you guys know that Toy Story 3 is rumored to be in 3d? hopfully its true.

Interesting article on 3D, Katzenberg says that this is the future and seems to really be pushing it. Wonder where he got that idea?
