Should Gotta Kick It Up and Tiger Cruise be released to DVD?

Hi guys, just thinking about which DCOMs haven't been released to DVD, and which ones should, and it struck me that Disney is sitting on a goldmine. With the popularity of Ugly Betty and Heroes in the 2006-2006 season of TV, Disney should release two 2004 (or thereabouts) DCOMs that should prove successful because of the new fans of them: America Ferrerra's "Gotta Kick It Up!", now appearing as Betty Suarez in Ugly Betty, and now Golden Globe Award winner, and Hayden Panieterre, now appearing as possibly the most known character in Heroes, and about to be foraying into music. I think that they should definitely be released soon, perphaps in September, as to cash in on the 1st season Touchstone DVD releases of each show, and to strike while they're hot stuff. It won't last forever (Desperate Housewives and Lost are cases in point), so Disney should definitely capitalise on this marketing right now. If I'm right in predicting this, then I'll give myself a pat on the back (I'm so lame, I couldn't think of anything better). Any thoughts on this?

Now that you mention it, this makes sense to you and me both. The only trouble is that Disney doesn't seem to release catalogue DVDs anymore, aside from the DMC Exclusives. Maybe that will change soon. It really ought to!

I think that all of the DCOMs should be released to DVD. The only one I own is "High School Musical", and I'm planning on getting the 2 Cheetah Girls movies sometime, but I'd buy more if more were available. I know that "Smart House" is available through the Disney Movie Club...I haven't decided if I'll buy it yet, but I'm sure I will when there's a really good deal. There are a bunch from the early 2000s that I'd buy ("Genius" is one I really liked, and "Rip Girls" is another...). I voted that I'd buy "Gotta Kick It Up!" over "Tiger Cruise", but that's because I've never seen "Tiger Cruise".

Yeah Luke, they should definitely change that rule because there are so many potentially popular titles out there, many that would make a tidy profit for them. And blackcauldron85, the only DCOM I own is HSM too. I also plan to purchase the Cheetah Girls titles as well, as soon as the sequel's released in Australia. And I've seen GKIU, but not Tiger Cruise, though I voted for Tiger Cruise, because its got a vocal fan base on the web, with many recommendations for it, and I'd love to see it.

Personally, I was repelled completely by "Gotta Kick It Up" (yes, me, repelled by a movie about cheerleaders), perhaps because I live in a mostly Latino community and the whole "Si Se Puede" thing was just annoying to me. And I guess Tiger Cruise didn't appeal much to me either. Though, in truth, I don't watch many DCOMs. Anyways, to me, there are some much more deserving of DVD releases that you rarely see on the channel anymore, I'd like to get the Zenon flicks for example, and some other non-DCOMs or practically DCOMs (like "My Date With the President's Daughter") I'd rather see come out on DVD.

As for me, I just picked up "Read It and Weep," though I've never seen it, and I know, I know, I hear it's not good. I also intend to get Cadette Kelly (if only to support Hilary Duff) and Get a Clue. Oh, and the Halloweentown movies. Not sure if I'm forgetting something.

Nope- it had Hayden Panettiere (the cheerleader from "Heroes", the girl who sang "I Still Believe" in "Cinderella III")- seeing how popular she is now, and her album will be coming out this spring, it would make sense to release the movie on DVD.

More Wonderful World of Disney movies like the one you mention above would be grand. Though I don't think of them as practically DCOMs because they're usually much better and made with a less narrow audience in mind (hence, their spot in primetime network television).

Tiger Cruise is the only movie that ever made me cry. I really would like to see it on dvd. I would definately buy a copy for me and several of my friends. oh and I did enjoy Gotta Kick It Up but not nearly as much as Tiger Cruise.

Though I was never a fan before, I love Hayden on Heroes. But what on Earth is Tiger Cruise about? Ha, I remember the title being advertised, but I can't seem to remember anything about it.

I know what you're saying about the WWofD films compared to the DCOMs, Luke, but what I meant was that there are a few in particular that they run on today's Disney Channel almost as frequently as if they were a DCOM, and they are ones that particularly appeal to the DCOM audience. The best example I can think of is My Date With the President's Daughter. Okay, for all I know it might be the only one. I'd have to sit and think about it. Plus, the opening of the film and the cheezy song in the beginning make it look DCOM quality, ha, but I find that one enjoyable for the most part, and I'll watch anything with Elisabeth Harnois, who is like 1 degree away from perfect. I'd love for that one to make it to DVD.

Slave2moonlight, Tiger Cruise is about Maddie (Hayden Paniterre), a young girl who goes on a cruise at the time of the World Trade Center attacks. The difference is that it's a Tiger cruise, which is when a naval officer gets to take their family on board to see them in action. Maddie is distanced from her father (Bill Pullman), but when she gets on board the Tiger Crusie, it all changes. Apparently it's a first-rate movie, with great acting by Hayden and Bill. You also get to see Hayden's younger brother Jansen in it.
